I'm going to the World May 20th for my honeymoon. My wife to be just booked the Keys to the Kingdom tour for us for the 2nd day of our trip. I don't know much about it, and I was wondering if anyone here has done it. All I know is we have to be a the Magic Kingdom by 9:30, and will last 4 1/2 to 5 hours, and we get lunch. Can someone please fill me in on what goes on during the tour (like what attractions do you see, what behind the scenes things you see ect..) I had heard it was a great tour, but I just want to know what to expect. My girl loves Disney, but she's not nearly as interested in the fun facts, and stuff as I am. Any info will help. Thanks in advance.

You get to learn about a lot of history behind WDW, and Walt. You also visit backstage, I believe the utilidors too actually. I've never done it but it seems pretty fun. I know they take you through all the lands. From what I've heard it's well worth the money. Have fun!

We just took the tour in December and we had a great time.:animwink: We of course had the first tour of the day so there was like nobody in the park except those w/breakfast reservations. It was beautiful. The tour was so much fun and informative. We only did two attractions-jungle cruise and HM. Our tour guide Matthew was great. You get headsets to hear your guide(you have to give them back though:cry: ) We had lunch at Columbia Harbor House (when you check in you choose what you would like to eat) and we also got a gold key pin too. Nice to collect. We went behind the scenes and saw where they kept the floats for the parade and we also got to tour the utilidors. I too am interested in Disney trivia and such and have read the first volume of Louis Mongello's WDW trivia book and knew some info that was mentioned, but also learned some new things too. When going on the attractions we had our own boat on the jungle cruise and you got other info that others aren't privy to. When going on the HM you got to go through another door and entered the "extending room" with some others from the regular line. You were also given some info of things to look for on the ride. Pretty cool. We had a blast and would love to do it again even. We were enjoying ourselves so much we didn't even notice the time. Congrats on your upcoming nuptials and enjoy.:sohappy:

My wife and I took the tour on my birthday in March. We loved it. Our guide took us through everything that was described above. The other great thing was that she welcomed questions. When we were "onstage" in the park, she asked that any questions we have be geared towards "preserving the magic" for any little ears that might be nearby, but when we were in backstage areas we could ask anything. I know a lot about the park from reading books and sites like this, but there was still new info I learned, plus it was really cool seeing the utilidor, where Tinkerbell lands during "Wishes", etc. Just be sure to dress comfortably and wear good shoes - it's a lot of walking, but no different than a typical day in the park.

Not old, just vintage.
My mom and I took the Keys to the Kingdom tour several years ago. It was such a good time. We rode Jungle Cruise in our own private boat with our tour guide as the Skipper. He told us so much good info, showed us some hidden mickeys, and it was just great to experience one of my favorite rides in a new way. We also did HM with some tips of things to look out for.

Backstage wise we saw where they keep the parade floats, the back side of Splash Mt., some utilidors and some office type areas. The lunch wasn't too bad either. It was nice to eat in the upstairs area of Columbia Harbour House where is nice and quiet.

The tour is a lot of walking (of course!) but our guide would answer pretty much any question as long as we were off stage. The time flies by and I highly recommend it to everyone who has even the smallest interest in the inner workings of MK.

What is the minimum age?

My wife and I would both love to do the tour. However, we have a 4 year old and I had read from a previous post about an age requirement. What is the age requirement for the KTTK tour?

You MUST be 16 to do the tour because of the backstage element. They don't want the magic ruined for young children and it is probably also a major liability to have young children running around backstage where it is definetly not kid friendly. This is one thing I highly doubt Disney will budge on too.

Your best bet would be to do the Family Magic Tour of the MK. It is much cheaper and kid oriented.

I took the Keys tour in 2005 and had a great time. Lots of little facts that you really don't hear about or notice (the chess pieces that make up the exterior of the Haunted Mansion for instance) and a great lunch to boot (we ate at Columbia Harbour House in Liberty Square)! The tour is rather long (don't forget your walking shoes) but well worth it! Especially getting to see the mythologized, if not rather dull, Utilidors beneath the park.

One thing I didn't see mentioned is that while there is a lot of walking, you make several 10 minute stops along the way where there is some seating so your feet get a little bit of a break every now and then. We stopped and sat down at the tables on center street just off of Main Street, then at some tables around the corner from the restrooms in Adventureland, then on the Jungle Cruise, then during lunch (for about 30-45 minutes), then haunted mansion. After that, I don't remember sitting down again until after the tour was finished. It was a great tour, we had Rae as our guide.

I went on the Keys to the Kingdom tour this past July and I thought it was really great. We went on the Jungle Cruise, Pirates of the Carribean, and Haunted Mansion without having to wait in line. We also got to see the backstage area where the floats are kept and the utilidoors. If you have ever read the Imagineering Field Guide to the Magic Kingdom then you will know alot of the information that the tour guide gives you. However, the tour guide did point out many fine details that I had never noticed before. I think the tour is a must for every Disney fan.

We went on the Keys to the Kingdom tour this past March and had a great time. It's a great tour. There is definately a lot of walking with lots of breaks. However once you do backstage on one side of Main, then into the ulitidors and back up on the other side of Main Street at the end of the tour you are on your feet for at least an hour. My feet needed a rest! Anyone who has have difficulty walking/standing for long periods can take the tour in an ECV of wheelchair.

My wife and I have done KTTK two times, a couple years apart. While the tour is generally the same, it is also very different depending upon your tour guide. Both times wegot some other information and stories and very different overall experiences. Honestly, it's been a couple years and we're considering doing it again with a friend of ours for his first time and another viewing for us....I know...we're crazy.....
