Key to the World

Well, my DS (5) has been saving for a few months now, and I've put what he has so far into an account. My question is this: Can I put his money directly on his Key to the World (room card) so that he can spend his own money, or do I need to bring cash? I think he'd really get a kick out of being able to charge to the card.

I dont know for sure, but I believe the only way you can charge to your room is by putting up a credit card. You may want to contact guest service for a definitive answer.

I don't believe you can put a set dollar amount on a room key, however you can get him a Disney gift card that he could use like a credit card. If you purchase it at a Disney Store you can have any amount put on the card from $5.00 - $1,500.00

This was going to be my suggestion. It would be the easiest thing to do and he could pretend to be using his "credit card".

Room charging limits are setup on a per room basis. Cards can be authorized to charge or not. If you allow your son's card to allow charging, he will have the same limit as you do. There is no way to change this.

By default, each resort level has its own limit, $500 for values, $1000 for moderates, $1500 for deluxe and DVC. You can modify that limit at check in.

The Disney gift cards are fantastic, I've used them with kids before and they work very well.

I will jump on board with the Disney Gift Cards. When you use them, the receipt will print how much is left at the bottom, that way he can keep track of how much he has left.:wave:

Sorry to go off topic, but the last two trips we have been on we stayed at the Grand Floridian and they charged our credit card once we went over $1000. We thought it would wait until $1500 but both times it did not. :veryconfu

The Disney gift card would definitely be the way to go, but keep in mind that the card can only be used at the parks or at a Disney Store. You might not want to tie up all his money on the off chance that he may not spend it all.

Would it be better than to just buy him some Disney Dollars when we're there; that way, he still "sees" his money?

Its a $1500 limit. Once $1000 is reached it will start to charge your actual credit card. If the limit is reached, the credit card holder must go back to the front desk of the hotel and ask to have the full amount billed to the credit card and to have the limit reset. They'll let you spend as much as you want, but every $1500 you must reset your charge account for security purposes.

Within the parks and hotels, Disney dollars are the exact same as cash for all transactions. And because they're the same as cash, they're accepted at the 0.5% of places that don't accept any type of cards. (mainly the walk-around balloon, snack and glow vendors)
