Keeping Cameras Charged

How do you keep your camera charged for a full day in the park? Do you use a portable power charger, if so which one (if it works well)? Do you carry extra batteries? Used to be a no brainer when everything took AA or AAA batteries. Just looking for ideas as we take a ton of pix!

I just get a couple spare batteries off of ebay. I do the same for my phone. I'm considering a portable charger for my next trip, though.

i also buy a spare battery, well worth the cost.
however, they now have charging stations around the park now that they expect you to use your smartphone all day to plan things. just ask a cm where they are.

you can use one of these battery expanders if you have a compatible camera.

like this: http://www.amazon.com/Professional-...533775&sr=8-1&keywords=nikon+battery+extender

they handle 2 normal batteries.
They let me take photos nonstop for like 12-14 hours at Magic Kingdom (including video)

Extra batteries. No question. A battery charger still takes time to charge the device and then you have a device attached to the phone or camera while its charging. The charging stations are nice but it makes no sense unless you feel like sitting outside of a restroom for a while while your device charges. The smarter option from Disney would have been to install small charging stations at the tables (QS and TS) so you can charge while you eat.

Yes forgot to mention ALWAYS carry at least two spare batteries, LABEL them as well ie BATT-1,BATT-2,etc with modern batteries when you get back to resort pop the one in the camera on the charger replace it with one of your spares (thats why you label) and when you leave in the morning you will have a nice fully charged spare. Keep rotating your batteries as well so they are all exercised and will have approx the same life

Also make sure you have spares for memory batteries etcl

What kind of camera are you using? I take anywhere from 600-1,300 pictures each day and I usually still have a decent amount of battery life at the end of the day without any extra charging. I learned my lesson a few years ago that I need to charge every 2.5 days if I'm taking pics at this rate...but just to be safe, I charge my battery each night while we're on vacay (since I'm bound to forget if I do it every other night).

Extra batteries, no question.
Funny you mentioned cameras that use regular batteries. One of our cameras that we still use does this, as we thought it would be better. We find that it runs out just as fast, if not faster and we still need extra batteries. yes, regular batteries far easier to find in a pinch; but I have found that that those cameras didn't really solve the problem of battery drain for us.

I carry two extra batteries with me at all times. But since we take breaks during the day I rarely deplete all 3 batteries, I take every chance I get to recharge them.

I take hundreds of pictures a day. I've never run out of battery power. I have several portable chargers which I take, but we've never had to use them while at the parks. I have a couple the size of a large lipstick tube and one that's the size of a Galaxy III phone that are so easy to carry. You won't even know you are carrying them. The larger one will even charge a laptop and came with two ports to charge two items at once. One of the ports has a built in mini usb cable and the other port takes any full size usb cable. They will easily fit in a pocket if you don't carry a bag to the park.
My large cameras take regular aa batteries. I use the 8X or 9X batteries and they last for a full seven days. I always take extras just in case, but have only had to use them once when I had been using the batteries in the camera at home first.
