JW Marriott has submitted plans for a new hotel near Wyndham Bonnet Creek and the Waldorf Astoria, bringing another hotel to the vicinity of Epcot.

While it'll be the first JW Marriott located immediately next to WDW, thanks to the company's acquisition of Starwood, it also runs the Swan & Dolphin. This will also be the second JW Marriott in Orlando, with the original being one of the largest hotels in the region with 1,000+ rooms.

"The application identifies the project as JW Marriott at Bonnet Creek, address on Chelonia Parkway, so the hotel would be at the corner of Epcot Center Drive and Interstate 4."

This would be the fifth hotel in the Bonnet Creek area, with the others being: Wyndham Resort, Wyndham Grand, Waldorf Astoria Orlando, Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek

The plans that have been submitted have the exact location as follows:

This is a little misleading. This is NOT on Disney property and although it's near Epcot it is not part of the Epcot resort area.

Actually this isn't true.

This has been kicked around in previous threads. The property involved was a holdout from what the owner perceived was a below market offer from Disney. Here's a Business Journal article from 2002:

"Orlando-based Fairfield Resorts intends to buy a prime 46-acre site near Walt Disney World to develop its own flagship time share property.

Located within the 480-acre master-planned Bonnet Creek Resort development, the parcel is bounded on three sides by Disney property and accessible via Buena Vista Drive.

Franz Hanning, president and CEO of Fairfield Resorts Inc., says this opportunity means his rapidly growing time share company, which relocated from Little Rock, Ark., to Orlando four years ago, finally will have a flagship property: the Fairfield Orlando at Bonnet Creek.

The company expects to close the deal by October. Fairfield would begin construction early in 2003.

A smaller 12-acre parcel also is being optioned that could hold 350 more units, according to a company spokesman. The company would not comment on the purchase price and says it cannot estimate the cost of building the new resort."

Actually this isn't true.

Land is owned by DCA Real Estate Investments which doesn't seem to be a Disney shell company. Although relatively close to Epcot, it is not part of the Epcot Resort Area which is the Swan, Dolphin, Yacht Club, Beach Club and Boardwalk. The distinction is important because there are rumors of a new third party hotel coming to that area. This isn't it.

Sorry @danlb_2000 I didn't mean to quote your post. What you said is absolutely true. I am going to delete.

Photo update as of Friday, January 31, 2020. Construction has been ongoing for many months. The exterior is largely completed, with the JW Marriott signs installed. These views are from the Epcot Center Drive exit onto I-4, in other words, the back side of the hotel. It is a large hotel, with a multi-story parking garage and convention space. The balconies you see on the left face Epcot and Hollywood Studios, for a view of the evening fireworks. The hotel is tall enough that guests on the other side will also be able to see Magic Kingdom fireworks. This side (camera view) faces Disney Springs, Typhoon Lagoon, and I-4.
