Trip Report Just What We Ordered... BLT & a Side of Summer!

We’re back home, and had an awesome trip! I cannot wait to share with you all!

TR 1.jpg

Pre-Trip Report linked here, if you are interested…

Just as a quick refresher…

WHO: Me, my sister (SB), brother-in-law (IZ), and our dad (R, but I may just refer to him as dad)

WHERE: Bay Lake Tower in a 1BR Villa

WHEN: June 16-22, 2021

WHY: Who needs a reason to go to Disney?! But really, we have missed it SO much in the past year, and this trip was much needed. We lost my mom in August 2020 to a long and hard fought battle with Ovarian Cancer. It has been a very hard year between that and dealing with the pandemic, so we were so ready for a break from real life.

Up Next… Arrival & Day 1!

Day 2: MK

I am a morning person. I enjoy waking up early, getting ready, and starting my day. My sister on the other hand… not so much. SO, Dad and I woke up early to get to MK before opening and SB and IZ slept in a bit. We were at the park by 7:20 for an 8:00 opening.

2DE0E7D7-87C4-4BC1-93F9-CB2D763E202F.jpeg

It was SO empty and magical. 10/10 would recommend. 👍🏻

I believe now, rope drop is happening like normal, but at the beginning of our trip, they were still letting guests wander wherever in the park well before opening. I’m so glad I for the experience it!

We headed back towards BTMRR. It is one of my most favorite attractions!

(LOVE the reflection in this one!)

Turns out, it wasn’t running yet. We were advised by a CM to try something in Fantasyland, so we headed to visit Neverland.

It was posted 20 min but actually a walk-on. No more social distancing in the queue, but some barriers in the queue were still there.

After Peter Pan, we went to Space. It was a walk-on as well.

0F461903-50E9-4051-B9D4-1073539B7AEE.jpeg

(we didn’t do PhotoPass on this trip, and I’m glad, we didn’t get many ride photos, so enjoy some watermarked pictures 😂)

We got a text from SB while in like for SM and they were up and headed to the park. I was very impressed, but the Disney magic must have caught them. 😉

They arrived and we did Space again. It was after park opening now and we waited about 10 minutes this time.

Great room!!
The Mickey sculpture (Metal Mickey?) is something I have not done yet
I have gone to the Contemporary numerous times (Chef Mickey/Wave) but never stayed there overnight.
Will have to make a point to try to find it next time

Max
It is located directly behind the main tower, in between the tower and Bay Lake. Very close to the main pool!

I was pushing for the TTA PeopleMover next (because it’s my FAVORITE!) but we decided to do some other things that might have longer waits later. We went to defeat Zurg next. It was a walk-on.

No photo of our scores because they were absolutely pitiful 😂

( I tried and FAILED to find the camera 😂)

PoC had a posted 15 min wait so we went there next. There were still barriers in the queue, but I was SO excited to find they had been removed from the boats. They were also loading the boats to full capacity. It was pretty much a walk-on as well.

In the gift shop after, Dad ran into friends from home. It’s a small world… 🌍
Jungle Cruise was garnering a longer wait by this time so we hopped in line. We waited about 25 minutes. I enjoyed seeing the new additions to the ride! Our skipper even had some new jokes.

It was still just before 10:00 AM, and we were getting so much accomplished! BTMRR was open now, so we jumped in the 40 minute line… and waited about 20!

While we were in the area we went to Splash. This was one of the longer waits of the trip, and the ride stopped right as we got to the loading area. We were on the ride in about 40 minutes.

ShookieJones

We need time for things to happen.
I will say it again...GREAT ROOM.

So glad you got to enjoy the Wave. That place has been one of our favorites (and usually our traditional first night meal) for a long time.
I am glad I got to eat there this past vacation and our server was amazing, I wish I could remember the dude's name, but he was off the charts great.

Love the (almost) completely empty park photos! I wouldn't call myself a morning person per say, but when it comes to WDW vacations, I am the last one to bed and the first one up every. single. day.

Following along and enjoying myself!

It was hot and our lunch ADR wasn’t until 2:00 so we needed some nourishment. SB was craving a coke slush and popcorn, so we stopped at the snack cart near Country Bears. SB and I both got coke slushees, IZ got a churro, and Dad got donut holes and they had extra corn dog nuggets so he got those for free. There was a cart next door that had popcorn but SB was disappointed that it was cash only and we had no cash. 😔

The first cavalcades we saw of the trip happened here too but no pictures because our hands were full of snacks. It was the Goofy one and the princess one.

I took this because we thought for sure they would make SB throw away her slush
but they didn’t!

Couldn’t skip the classic! I might even know all the words… 😜

Dad and IZ looking less-than-thrilled (they both actually like it, I promise!)

HM was next. It was posted 35 and we waited 20. No stretching room today… but would we see it later this trip? 🤷‍♀️

We went to PP instead and Dad used his photographer skills while waiting in line. He just got a new phone before this trip and enjoyed trying out the photo capabilities.

Finally lunch time!! Where are we eating??

We got to see this guy…

BoG!

I wasn’t sure about this meal because I have heard so many mixed reviews. We loved it when it was QS, so we were hoping it would be good. Turns out, we really, really enjoyed it. We kept comparing food throughout the trip to this meal, actually!

We all got the meat and cheese plate for the app except Dad got the soup. Lobster bisque I think? It all was good except I hate goat cheese so that part wasn’t pleasant.

For mains, I got the filet, SB and Dad got the scallops and IZ actually got a special that they don’t have everyday, the lamb. All was VERY good.

For dessert, everyone gets the same thing. A macaron, a chocolate teacup with the “Grey stuff”, and a little chocolate. We enjoyed it all except the little chocolate. It was far too rich.

SB and IZ took this only slightly awkward looking picture as well. 😅

Also, I forgot to put this earlier, but here is what we looked like on Splash. Nobody wanted their hair wet, and IZ says he forgot how big the drop was 😂

First, I’m so sorry about your mom. I lost my mom in 2019 from cancer also. Such an awful thing to experience(for the person & the family). My condolences to you all.

I think The Wave is an awesome restaurant!! I had the salmon when I ate there. Glad you enjoyed it!!

You & your sister could be twins!! You look so much alike!!

Enjoying your TR!!😀

After lunch, it was more crowded. We wanted to do a few more things though before heading out.
First up was visiting Ariel. We thought it would be a walk on but ended up delayed in the line due to somebody getting sick in the queue and waited about 25 minutes. Thankfully it was nicely air-conditioned.

Seven Dwarfs was posted as a 40 minute wait. It was accurate.

We had planned on skipping Teacups, but I couldn’t resist a walk-on. No spinning for this tea though. 😅

We ended the rides with my favorite: PeopleMover!

Finally 😍

Late afternoon Starbucks and some rest in the hub was a necessity. These tables were all available since Casey’s is closed. Cafe Vanilla Frappe for me!

SB is a big fan of Disney ducks so she was thrilled when this guy paid a visit.

Dad was wanting to try Chicken Guy, so the plan was to go chill in the room for a bit and then go to DS. We got back to the room though and were so exhausted that we decided to just mobile order from Contempo Cafe again. We ate at the tables there. Dad and I got the hot turkey sandwich, SB had a Caesar salad and IZ had the spicy chicken sandwich again.

After dinner, it was off to bed for us! I had my alarm set to attempt a Boarding Group for Rise. Would our Star Wars dreams come true? Stay tuned to find out!

YES! The room honestly made the trip for us this time. It was so wonderful knowing we had that to come home to each day! I think we’re spoiled now.

The Wave was great. We will definitely be back! Fingers crossed they don’t change too much in the remodel!
As an FYI, neither Pirates nor Small World ever had dividers on the boats. Rows were loaded every-other (or more) to comply with physical distancing requirements.
Makes sense. I realized after I posted that in videos I’ve seen, there never were any! They were filling them all up to capacity though, which is a development that as far as I know, began the week we were there. I’m just glad it seemed much more normal than we were anticipating!

First, I’m so sorry about your mom. I lost my mom in 2019 from cancer also. Such an awful thing to experience(for the person & the family). My condolences to you all.

Thank you so much. It is absolutely terrible. I’m sorry to you as well.

We will definitely be back at The Wave! I hope it isn’t changed too much.

We get that a lot! Especially now that we both wear our glasses all the time. She is just 2 years younger than me! I am looking forward to your new TR as well!

Day 3: HS

I set an early alarm for a BG, but woke up on my own at about 6:15. I think it was just the anticipation! I decided to go ahead and get ready for the day. As it neared 6:55, Dad woke up to try on his phone too. I searched the room for the best service and ended up in the hallway, along with several other hotel guests. 😂

7:00 rolled around and…

WOOHOO! BG 30. Pretty good for my first time, I think.

We finished getting ready and soaked in this view.

SB and IZ decided to get up early too, but Dad and I went on to the bus because they were taking a while. They just missed our bus though and ended up on the next one. We arrived at the park around 8:45 for a 9:00 opening.

Dad enjoyed looking at the Skyliner on the way in. I made him get a picture. 👍🏻

HS looked much more crowded than MK yesterday.

We went straight for MMRR! The line was long but it moved fast. So excited!!

We also got to see the pre-show!!! So good!

There were no more plastic dividers on the train! Yay!

We loved it. We also loved the GMR, but agreed that if they HAD to replace it with something, this was a great replacement.

Our BG would be called relatively soon, so we went to explore GE next. Dad and IZ both love SW and have never been, so we spent a while showing them around.

and waited

and waited. It took about an hour to make it to the first pre-show. We later found out that they had issues and were only running one side. Later in the day it completely went down, so I’m glad we did it in the AM!

I have watched many videos of the ride, but there is nothing like actually being on it. It was awesome!!

After the long wait we needed some energy. We had a “lunch” ADR but it wasn’t until 2:55, so we got a snack.

SB, IZ, and Dad all got Ronto Wraps, and I got this.

Smugglers Run was posted 40 minutes which was the shortest it had been all day so we went there next. It took the whole 40.

We had low expectations for this ride, but it was one of our favorites! IZ and Dad piloted us, and they loved it! IZ said it was his favorite ride of the whole trip. You really have quite a bit of control over the steering. Much more than we were expecting.

Alien Swirling Saucers was next.
I like these little guys. 😍

We thought about doing TSM or Slinky but the waits for both were longer than we were willing to wait (55 and 90, respectively.)

We dropped in here, instead.
