This has got to be the funniest thing that I have ever read on here. Some of the comments have had me rolling!:ROFLOL:

I have to say though that I would have absolutely freaked out had I seen this. Some people are so strange. Can you see yourself stuck in line behind that? I don't know what would get me worse, the smell or the rat. :hurl::hurl: That's just gross to let a rat be on you and use that bathroom on you too. ewwwww I have never, ever heard of anyone doing anything like this before.[/quote

Me too!i thought it was a joke when i first saw the thread this morning, but the posts that followed are hilarious!!A rats nest for hair!!!!!!:lol::lol::lol:]

I've got a closet full of concert T's from The Dead, Phish, Govt Mule, and Panic. I'm not hating on hippies, but if you would have been at Bonnaroo, the joke would have totally made sense.

:( I was 100 dollars short of heading off to bonnaroo, and im not smelly and rat infested. why all the hippie hatred?

I would think the sight of a rat would cause many people (most women, at least) to scream. I would imagine that they were eventually found out.

Sounds like a lost soul trying to get attention.

I would have obliged her, spoken to a cast member and insisted that she be escorted out of the park.

I first have so say, in my life I've had a number of pet rats. Lovely wee creatures, all.

Sounds like a bunch of hippies. Did it smell like patchouli?

Get out of my head.

:hurl: :hurl: :hurl: I HATE the smell of patchouli.

I love it. I would wear it to this day had I not chosen to bow to the views of the community I live in. Used to be I'd get in the car and someone would say "Who invited the Grateful Dead?".

I couldn't agree with you more! I would have definately confronted her, also. Why do I have to pay a ton of money to put my cute well-behaved, disease-free, vaccination-having, house broken 12 lb. shih tzu in a kennel, but this weirdo:p gets away with bringing her rat?!? Life's so unfair!

Well, I agree. If I can't bring my wee doggie, you can't bring your rat. I WISH Disney was more dog friendly (ie, in the sense that we could actually bring them in the parks). But how do you know that rat had a disease? Pet rats are actually very sweet and easily trained...why do you think that rat wasn't running around? Trained.

I would think the sight of a rat would cause many people (most women, at least) to scream. I would imagine that they were eventually found out.

Not this woman. I would have been all over that rat, giving it little kissy faces.

I do agreee that the rat should not have been allowed in, but only because of the no pet rule. No other reason.

Rock on little hippie rat smelly girl, wherever you are!

Umm... ewww. Gotta say that if she was causing a problem with the smell and rat (if was a service animal) asked her to leave. That's disturbing other guests. Not to mention, the rat some might be allergic to. I have a friend who is deathly allergic to pet dander.

Hey Steve
Liked your post and agree rats are disturbing to other guests. Curious about your freind's allergy though...is it a contact allergy? In my own case my boss can not be in a house that has pets, even if he never touches the animals. I've always teased him about this, because I didn't take him seriously.:lookaroun

I've had many domesticated rats as pets, and they are actually very clean and friendly animals.
It concerns me that you noticed a fairly bad odor from just walking past the woman--if it even WAS the rat causing the smell, it would have either been using her shirt as a toilet for a month straight, or it wasn't being kept in the greatest or cleanest living conditions. Both are frightening situations!

Domesticated rats are leaps and bounds above their wild counterparts--they are some of the most friendly and social small pets you can have (and without all the nuisance and diseases). They're fairly smart, too--I've had mine trained to recognise their names and come when called, one even played fetch!

As for being in her hair, one thing my pet rats enjoyed doing was perching on my shoulder as I did my daily household things--most of them love human interaction and contact. They'll get tired of the view and move around sometimes. :)

I don't really see how the animal was allowed in the park, though, especially in the situation described. Weird!

I hope you didn't find out the hard way that he was absolutely serious. We had a friend come over who has the same problem, and thought that locking the cat in the garage and then vacuuming all the furniture, washing all the floors really well, etc and staying in a room that is always closed off would take care of it. No. He still had a reaction and had to leave after about an hour.

I agree that a pet rat is much different than a wild one, with there being minimal chance that it carries disease or would bite anyone. But it still doesn't belong all day in a theme park; not only is it traumatic to the other guests, but is probably traumatic to the rat to be away from it's comfort zone all day, being exposed to so much stimulus, not being able to drink and relieve itself at will, etc.

I 100% agree!!! That poor rat probably was miserable, and there was more potential for the rat to be hurt than anyone else.

I was going to ask if it could have possibly been a hamster, ferret or something similar that you saw. (Not that those would have been better to crawl around and crap in her hair or bring into the park!)

I never knew that a domesticated rat even existed until reading these responses.

That is why I find it so hard to believe that you can now fly pets in the plane with you. Not only is the barking and wining a little annoying when you end up next to one, but what about the people with allergies? We have lots of allergies in my family. Some could not stay with us here in Florida because of our cat. They would have to stay in a motel , so we would visit with them there. We even tried giving the poor cat 3 baths in 3 days to keep the dander down in addition to the washing and vacuuming everything and still would end up at the emergency room with my niece when they did try to stay at the house.

Seeing a real rat in a park even a well trained pet would definitely gross me out.

He found out the hard way. He walked into my house and we have a cat. He lasted 3 minutes. Then had to leave. We spent the rest of the day waiting to hear from him. He was alright and we met up for coffee later at Denny's and the went for a movie. I can't stand to think what would've happened to someone had they had an allergic reaction.
