I finally did it! After a couple of weeks of research, number crunching, lots of calls with Ty, my vacation club guide, and a whole lot of thinking, I finally joined up!

The numbers made a lot of sense, given my travel habits, and the fact that I only need a studio at this point. I was also able to finance it through an alternate source through work with a much lower interest rate- I guess there are some benefits to being a teacher!

Anyway, I bought in at SSR, though if I can avoid it, I don't ever actually plan to stay there. It was just the best value in terms of the cost per point and the maintenance fees. I can't wait to book my first trip at a DVC resort!

We also just joined in June. We chose SSR for the same reason as you. Just a better buy. Although buying resale is going to save some money we felt going direct from Disney was a safer and quicker purchase. We bought when we were on a non Disney trip this June and it made that trip one of our best trips there. We spent half a day (it was raining anyway) touring BLT, SSR, AKL and BWV. We booked BCV for six days in March. We banked 2011 and barely used 2012 so we will bank the rest and save for a big trip when my daughter graduates high school in 2013. As you can tell I'm very excited as you must be. Congratulations on your purchase neighbor.

What did you get for a use year? Were you able to bank like I did?? Just wondering.

I got an April use year. I have 100 points available (I bought in at the minimum to start, with the intention of adding more points if I need them) tomorrow morning, as soon as the paperwork is processed. They have to be used by March 31, 2013. On April 1, 2012, I get 100 more points (which also have to be used by March 31, 2013). Basically, he said the incentive was being able to "double-dip" the first year (in his words).

I can't wait to call and (hopefully) book a stay at AKL tomorrow!

We bought a low number of points to start too. (150) We WILL add on when the time is right.

We have a February use year and double dipped as well. Good luck with your ressies at AKL.

The ability to double dip the first year was a huge perk for me. Since it's only two of us, and a studio is perfect, we can get a whole week at one for around 100 points. So, we are essentially getting a "free" vacation this year.

Just be careful, because all they did was give you points that you are technically already entitled to for the 2011 use year. My guess is that these would have to be banked by the end of the year, so just double check that with your guide so you don't lose them.

Thanks! I stayed at SSR before, and have no complaints about the rooms or anything. It just feels like a retirement community to me. Not my scene.

Welcome home, we joined in '99 at Boardwalk, and then bought also at Bay Lake in '08

Best vacation decision we ever made! You will really enjoy it

Welcome Home and congrats on your purchase.

We also own @ SSR. If was a great financial descision since we paid $74 per point and the maintenance fees are low compared to many resorts. We have stayed all over WDW at every DVC resort with the exception of BWV. I like SSR because of it's closeness to DTD and it was better when PI was open and it was a simple walk back at night. With only 100 points, I can see you adding on in the next few years!
