Just given the green light

I was just given the green light to plan a trip to Disneyland later this year. :sohappy:

Suddenly after planning foe a WDW trip, I have to switch gears. I just realized how little I know about Disneyland. We went once in 2001, but I was a Newbe.

Question:
When is the best time to go? September, October, November (Not Thanksgiving), or December (Not the end of Dec)?

Any news or rumors of a POTC refurb later this year?

When does Hauted Mansion usually go down for refurb to add the Haunted mansion Holliday overlay?

Anyones input is apreciated.

I'd go between thanksgiving and christmas. The xmas decorations are all up and Haunted Mansion Holiday is already open. Also, its a small world should be open by then too.

Haven't heard anything about a POTC refurb.

Most likely in late august into september to open in time for Halloween.

Mid Sept. theres a good amont of refrubs that happen and HM is closed for 2 weeks.
Oct has HalloweenTime
Nov the holiday stuff starts going up in early Nov. is just about to kick in to high gear once Thanksgiving rolls around.
Dec all the holiday stuff is up and its really great. Early Dec. there is the CandleLight Processional also the Cast Member Holiday parties force DL to close early for 2 nights in early dec too.

Dont think POTC has any upcoming refrubs.

HM usually goes down after labor day for 2 weeks and reopens as HMH just in time for HalloweenTime.

I'd go October to see the Halloween stuff.
Or early Nov/early Dec to see the Christmas stuff.
Any of those will be fine crowd wise, so which ever works for you.
Big tip- aviod weekends, they are very crowded.
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!

Thanks for the info.

If I go in October 11th through 19th what will most likely be down? Will Haunted mansion be back up and running by then?

How's the Jolly Roger Hotel? I am just looking for a clean place to crash after the parks.

Will there be a chance to see MainStreet Electrical Parade at all? What extra will be running on a Saturday that is not running on a weekday?

I am afraid if I go to early there will be a bunch of refurbs. POTC is a Must. Space mointain will be cool and Splash moitain is my all time fav. All of those are deal breakers. Everything else is a bonus.

That should be a good time to go, HalloweenTime starts in late Sept so HMH will be in ful sing.

THe refubs should be fine, although Disney has been pulling a few fast ones on us lately ie, Carousel and the few others.

MSEP Im not sure about though it tends to only play during the summer and peak seasons. Though it could still be running on weekends in Oct, Pixar Play Parade seems really great though.

I'm also going to DL for the very first time in Sept. (hopefully...) and I know nothing about the place either.

It's hard for me to know a lot though b/c I don't know the lay of the land as intimately as WDW...I'm trying to read as much as I can though!

^ hope you have a blast! early, mid or late Sept? let us know more and well try to help. :)

Good thing though is that DL and MK pretty much have the same layouts just a few things in different spots. At certain times you'll probably be thinking to your self shouldt HM be there and not Thunder or Liberty Square be here not Frontierland lol. Oh and Town Square has a very wierd feeling when so much is the same yet so different. Theres no Seven Seas Lagoon on the otherside of that train station but instead its DCA. I think those are some of the weirdest things about going to DL so much then to MK or other way around.

I'm going Sept. 6-13, but will not just be doing a DL trip...but going a few other places as well. Will probably be spending either 2 or 3 days at DL and DCA depending on what we decide to do with the rest of the trip.

And I figure DL will feel quite similar with many differences as well...it's just the whole, as you said, knowing where things actually are instead of where they are in the other park. Getting the lay of the land on a place you've never been is quite difficult. And even with all the research in the world, it still doesn't compare until you're actually there, experiencing it.

Plus, I know all the tricks for visiting WDW. I feel as if I know no tricks for visiting DL.

I appreciate any help that will be given! :D

When and where can I get information on whether or not the MSEP will be done on my visit in the fall?

We are going either in September or October. Our first inclination was Sept., though after reading from you all that some important rides might be shut down (I've still never seen any HM post-refurb) I'm thinking about maybe early October. But I do have to say, I plan ther trip around the MSEP if it comes to that.
