Hello,
I'm curious what people's opinions are about WDW and DLP. Which
one do you prefer? (That might be a loaded question, because of the
name of this sight.:)) I'm not trying to start a war. I'm just curious how
the two compare. I've only been to WDW.

Thanks.

DLP is fabulous, it is close to home for us, we live in Scotland. It is a shorter journey, cooler temperature and good value. It has 2 parks, Disneyland and Walt Disney Studios. A lot of the rides the same as WDW, Small World (you just can't escape it!), Buzz Lightyear, Thunder Mountain, Tower of Terror, Rock N Roller but will little twists they make it original. Disneyland has fireworks in the summer months and special occasions. Must admit, as much as I LOVE DLP, WDW just feels so much more exciting:sohappy:, I just thinks it is being in the USA, LOVE IT. I would recommend a visit if you get a chance, Paris has a continental feel, with people visiting from all around Europe and beyond.

What to say? WDW has 4 parks and 2 water parks. It is a city. DLP has 2 parks. It is a town.

Orlandos weather can be better than Paris, naturally although it does get very hot in July and August, though with no humidity.

You can`t really compare. It`s like WDW to DLC or TDL. The only thing of note was Disneyland Parc cost $2.2 Billion to build in 1992 prices. The remit was to go back to basics and begin again to make it the best. And they did. As much as I love the MK, DLPs Parc beats it hands down. Everything is bigger, grander, more wow-inducing. From the building details to the size of Fantasyland (it has a canal in the middle of it) DLP just builds on the originals. Phantom Manor with stunning effects and A100 animatronics. Big Thunder on an island, with a layout almost identical to WDW but with a splash dip and high speed plunge into the bat cave to go under the river. Pirates of the Caribbean on THREE floors with A100s and a storyline (and length) more lavish than Anahiems. Space Mountain... well, the most immersive coaster I`ve ridden. And I still have the bruises to prove it.

I can`t wait to get back to WDW for my 9th trip. I can`t wait to return to DLP next summer for my 4th. Each has its merits.

I figured it would be hard to compare, since they're not really apples to apples.
I was just wondering what people's impressions were. Seems it might be a must
see if we ever get to Europe.

Paris:
  • 1 beautiful park with rides that often surpass any other version of that ride (BTMRR, POTC) or very good variations of rides (SM)
  • 1 park thats a bit meh... Getting better now though with Crushes Coaster and ToT although needs a little bit more
  • Love the fact that you can walk from almost any resort to both parks and Disney Village
  • CM's aren't as bad as everyone thinks they are
WDW
  • It's bigger! More rides, huge range of 'additional' attraction (surfing, paragliding etc)
  • Better weather although it may be a little too hot
  • Fantastic CM's
  • Some great attractions you just don't find anywhere else
  • Parks offer more (e.g world showcase) than the standard parks
For me I like DLP and would happily go there but I love WDW and would rather save for a few more months to visit that. As it happens, DLP would cost my wife and I around £500 for a 4 day visit (excluding travel, food etc) where as I can get to WDW for 14days for around £1500 (including travel). Financially it makes more sense to visit WDW (or at least thats what I tell myself!)

DLP is by no means a bad resort, but the weather (f-f-f-freezin' in the Winter and mild in the Summer) and the cost (WDW is much better value for what you get), I'd pick WDW over it anytime. If I was visiting France, however, I would definitely try and fit it in.

OK, what do you mean by freezing?

I live in Iowa and in the winter it often gets below 0 F. So when my in-laws
come up from Tennessee and it gets around 60 F they break out their winter
coats and I have on a light jacket.:ROFLOL:

We've been to WDW 5 times and this December will be our 4th trip to DLP. Our opinion is that WDW wins hands down, Paris provides us with a 'quick fix' to keep us going until our next trip to the US. A visit to DLP is 2 or 3 days with all attractions 'done to death', whereas 2 weeks at WDW is still not enough.
Biggest difference for me is access to the characters. Most of Europe doesn't appreciate the art of queuing (waiting in line) and meeting characters regularly turns into a battle. All our character photos from WDW are of the character and our family. The photos from DLP are of the character, hopefully someone from our family, and everyone else that is pushing and shoving, not prepared to wait their turn, and not a care if they trample of your kid in the process:mad:. Yes, some of the rides are better, especially Space Mountain, and after all ,any Disney Park is better than none, but if we had unlimited cash, it would be WDW every time.

DH & I have been to WDW 12 times between us, most recently in Nov '06 and then we went to DLP this June. I was sooo disappointed! :( It didn't help that it was spring type weather (not quite up to 60 F most days). But it didn't have any of the 'magic'.

My plus sides for us were traveling - roughly 4 hours door to door, and how close everything was, a 15 minute walk to go anywhere. A couple of unique or more updated rides, and did I mention how close it was to us?

The down sides were numerous. We found it so incredibly pricey, 4.50 Euro for a not quite pint size glass of coke. Thats $6.75! We spent $300 in 3 1/2 days for meals, and we ate at the cheapest restaurants, and we shared some lunches. By comparison we have DDP on our next 14 night WDW trip for $963. This is going to seem a silly thing to say, but even the pavements were a disappointment. They had large cracks and even holes in places - mainly just outside the parks - and were a trip hazard. I don't remember having anything like this is WDW. We encountered some rude CM's, but I suppose that could happen anywhere :lookaroun

The hotels were nicely themed, but the had the most uncomfortable, small bed. I would suggest staying off property or spending more for a more luxury/comfortable resort. I would second Fun2Bfree's comment on visiting if you are in France, but I would advise anyone I knew in the US to make the trip south, not east.

We were so disappointed we booked another trip back to WDW for Nov '09 :sohappy::xmas:

War? Since when do these kinds of threads end in bloodshed?

Unfortunatly I have never been to WDW but i have been looking at this website every day for about two years now, so i've learnt quite alot.
Living down the South of England is really convinient for visiting DLRP becuase it's only a 2-3 hour drive to the Eurostar terminal which goes straight to the park gates!
Obviously WDW is much bigger and better that DLRP but there are some amazing things at DLRP.
For example, BTM is amazing! It goes under the lake super fast and you get the feeling your very high up. SMM2 is also a lot better than at WDW (apperently) even though it's a bit bumpy!
However, IMO DLRP is better than DL(I've been here once). Everything is on a much bigger scale and the castle is the only 'real' (made out of stone) disney castle in the world!
WDS was very poor but has been made much better with a really scart TOT (much scarier than the one at DCA) and the amazing Crush's coaster (My favourite) It's due to get a big renovation with rides like Star Tours 2.0 and Soarin' over Europe added (rumours!) as well as Toon Studios
There are also pretty big rumours that a third gate has to be added before 2017 as part of the aggrement with the French parliment, ao hopefully there will be an Epcot or Animal Kingdom there soon!

In Winter, we're talking an average temperature of 39.2F. Pretty much what we get in the UK.

Yes, 39 F is a bit cold for a trip to an amusement park.

Although DLP is lovely, I consider it a pleasant two-day trip. As everyone knows, Disneyland Parc is the most elaborate MK-style park on earth. The castle is rather small, but still gorgeous—I consider it a tie with Cinderella Castle at WDW, since they're too different to properly compare. Fantasyland actually feels like another world, not just a kiddie area; and Tomorrowland is the best one WDI ever built.

WDSP is a joke of a park that's actually worse than DCA. Their version of ToT is just plain cheap compared to WDW's, and Crush's Coaster alone is not worth the price of admission.

But their biggest problem is maintenance—and it's not even Disney's fault! No offense to our French friends here, but the French guests are the least caring ones at any Disney park. They push and shove. They toss trash on the ground. They're almost as bad as Brazilian tour groups, except the French do have the decency not to chant on dark rides.

Plus, as other people mentioned, DLRP doesn't have Epcot, the Studios, or DAK. WDW is the Vacation Kingdom; DLP is a magical spot in Paris.
