Just bought a Sony NEX-7

Two years ago I purchased a Sony NEX-3 at the same time I wanted to expand my knowledge of photography. All I knew was how to point and shoot. I thought the NEX-3 would be a nice step up from P&S and with interchangable lenses I could grow with the camera as I grew as an amateur/hobbist photographer. Plus the investment wasn't huge if I didn't happen to get bit by the photo bug.

I have been very pleased with the NEX-3 and learned much from using and abusing it. I did purchase 2 additional lenses - the big zoom and recently I bought the 50mm 1.8f prime lens (which takes great portraits).

So I decided it was time to take the next step and purchase a more serious camera. I did consider the Nikon D600 but after factoring the existing investment in E-mount lenses and the addtional cost of the Nikon, plus the size of the NEX-7 ( I really like smaller and lighter ), I bought the Sony.

I should receive it sometime next week and will give you my completely unqualified opinion of it.:)

I bought this camera last summer and it's a great camera! Even for a newly learning photog like myself, you can learn how to take great pictures pretty quickly with the Nex 7. I bought David Busch's Sony Alpha NEX-7 Guide to Digital Photography from amazon and that helped me, still haven't read the advanced chapters but there's a lot of good information there.

Have fun with the camera!

I am so glad you are enjoying it and thanks for the book recommendation!

Camera came last night. Uses the same battery as my NEX-3 which is nice. I spent some time screwing around with it, the menu setup is similar to the NEX-3 so it didn't take me long to start shooting some odd things around the house. I'm amazed at how light the camera is - it's bigger than it's little brother but seems to weigh the same if not less.

I'm hoping to spend more time digging into it over the next week.
