hi all! just got back from the wdw vacation i had been looking forward to for so long. this was about my 30th time there, but my wife lisa had never been to wdw or disneyland. it is always interesting to observe the reactions of a first timer so here are some thoughts.

she couldn't believe how huge it was! even reading the travel guides i bought for her did not prepare her for the scope of wdw.

she actually gasped when we cleared the lush foliage of ak and saw the tree of life up close for the first time. (speaking of ak, i'd only been once before and wasnt overly impressed. i seemed to enjoy it a lot more this time and lisa thought the park was beautiful. we both liked the new dino area, we thought it was a nice contrast to the natural colors of the rest of the park and primeval whirl was a fun ride. it was one of lisa's favorites in all of wdw.)

before the trip, lisa had confessed that she might feel silly around the characters since we would have no kids with us. as it turned out the opposite was true, she actually carried on conversations with them and danced along with chip and dale. we waited longer to meet some characters than we did for most rides!

she commented that every employee we dealt with was very nice, and that the bathrooms were always clean. she is even using the term 'castmember' in everyday conversation now!

in short, she absolutely loved the trip. she has even said we can start planning another trip for next year! we're looking at february.

i have a lot more comments on this trip, but they'll have to wait for another day. if anyone has any questions i'll be glad to answer them!

I think you've discovered one of the secrets of keeping the magic....when you visit with a "newbie", you get a different perspective on things! I think frequent flyers start to take all of the magic for granted, and then we start to nit-pick at everything! A first timer really sees the big picture...WDW IS different than anyplace else...at least for now. It is truly an incredible place! There are more and more imitators, but they haven't caught up to the original yet....and hopefully, Disney will continue to keep a few steps ahead of them!

Mom, you said it all. I do enjoy going with first-timers. We go several times of the year, and usually we try to take a family member or friend who has never been with us on one of those trips. It is great to be able to show them around and see their reactions. Usually they are hooked for life after that first trip.

It is impossible to explain our dedication to Disney to anyone who has never been.

Well Stinkyface it looks like you have a "family" vacation spot for the rest of your life!!

Wow Stinkyface, that's great. I took my husband for the fist time on our honeymoon (I had been a few times before). He loved it so much, on our last trip we joined the DVC.

Lucky you, stinkyface, visiting WDW with a first-timer! We've been so many times that I really can't quite recall ALL of those "first-timer" moments. I really love it when people at work ask me for information when they're planning their first trip...I get vicarious "first-timer" moments when they come back and share their experiences.

I know what you mean regarding the joys of sharing the Disney magic with first-timers. I helped take a group of 80 middle school kids to WDW last year. Half of them had never been before. It was wonderful watching their faces as they experienced "the happiest and most magical place on earth".

it is so nice taking someone for their first time. And even nicer if there is romance included:animwink:
