Just a possibility maybe

You say they won't open and staff until they get close to a full ride, but in 2001 they were open the next day. I imagine staffing was significantly lower and experiences were toned back, but I can't imagine Disney not opening up the parks until they feel like the economy has 'recovered'. Same with the recession in '08. I think we're going to see them re-open and there will probably be lighter crowds for a while until everyone starts to get back on their feet.

Schools, I think that's where we're heading ultimately (though, if you're opening up Disney, you're opening up schools. Especially here in Texas), but there's a series of complications there that has to be addressed and my biggest frustration is that no one is addressing them. Instead, they're closing stuff and then leaving people in the dark for weeks. I feel like things are more done by gut feeling instead of any data or facts that say if X happens, then plan Y will go into effect.
2001 was not one thing...and was a completely different set of variables. It’s just the only other example in the same ballpark.

They didn’t empty hotels...locals and travelers by car came without hesitation...and the disruption rolled out over a long time. Few know/bother to admit that Disney’s business was wrecked prior to September because the dot.com crash didn’t fully take hold there until after the 2000 celebration ended...people still came and then it dried up a year later.

This is total different. Invisible plague spread through human contact??
A start from scratch?

Disney has never gameplanned this. It would have been ridiculous to even do so. Apparently no one in Washington did either...but I digress.

Schools and colleges are looking to rotate to distance learning in most places anyway...because the costs will be unsustainable for brick and mortar anyway.

I guess I’m lucky...because we rotated to online in the span of 72 hours here in Jersey and it had gone as well as can be expected. That’s what a good social infrastructure does and it’s not equal everywhere. But there are cracks in that system I’m sure will be an issue as well. We all do the best we can.

Great points, and just to reiterate:
The Global Market for Disney is also very different than it was 20 years ago, with more theaters giving Disney money in Asia than the US and two theme parks that have been a progressive loss and struggle even before this virus.

Most School Districts have found solutions in online platforms to do the best they can. Teachers are used to it, and it shows the world how bogus many standardized testing situations and beuracracy really are, if one wants a positive out of it.
Yeah...I just covered that. Most schools here are either physically shut down till fall or assuming they will be and rotated to online in the span of 3-4 days.

I give immense credit to the teachers and support staff here...they are doing an amazing job.

The health care pros and teachers are wearing capes...who needs marvel?

Even if we succeed in the US...when’s euro opening?

And the 10-15-20% of customers who are international who are at wdw in a given day...when are they flying in to OIA? Same issue in Anaheim.
Long after the APs are allowed back...unless maybe you’re from Toronto.

When is Euro going up? That's what I'm asking.

It's the buying opportunity of a lifetime. If you can time it right. (I got 15 E-Minis ready to go on "ES" - Just waiting to pull the trigger)

Not really concerned with Paris right now. They'll (DLP) be allright.

That may be right. But, if there is no vaccine for 12-18 months, isn't the only way to flatten the curve for everyone to isolate for 12-18 months until that vaccine is available? Because a very realistic scenario is we all isolate for 60 days, 90 days, 120 days, then we all come together in various scenarios without the vaccine and the numbers start to spike again. The longer the isolation is, the worse the depression is. How do we balance that?

Sorta kinda. Part of the theory is that as time goes by we become better prepared even if we don't have a vaccine. Right now stuff like mask, testing kits and hospital beds that are in short supply become available.
Also the thought is as time ticks the general population will become more attuned to doing normal stuff that prevents contamination. We become more conscious of hand washing, staying home if we're sick....

So a fundamental alteration of life?

Yeah...that makes sense. But then Disney changes too...both to cater to new consumers AND to limit their own exposure.

Lol it's so funny that basic stuff like hand washing and staying home is considered an alteration.
Seems like a bunch of grandma's taught that way back when.

One of the issues is people become "resistant" to changed in their lives. Philadelphia had to be forced to close it schools by the state and are asking to be allowed to open them April 1st. Our restaurants are still open although for take out only

I gotta say though this one has me stumped. I mean I grew up in NYC and remember when HIV exploded but can't remember this meltdown and totally can't remember the SARS epidemic

I have a trip planned for May which I LL probably cancel and another for August. I'm going to hang onto the August one though

I get you Liz...but Americans are NOT Clean. We don’t do those things enough and that’s why we will see the spread.

I think at the end of the day the numbers will mirror hygiene...plain and simple.

It’s not a coincidence Japan is well controlled and Italy is not...just my theory.

And as far as Philly goes...I worked with the SDOP in the past.

I have few nice things to say about them. That April 1st thing is stupid...but typical. Not surprised.
😂 So I think the next few weeks will be key. We keep hearing about a "surge" in cases. If no surge or if most of the cases are mild, we'll see more clamoring to get back to normal

Maybe...but Disney is shut down for a LONG time...

That’s not apparent to most of the fans...it will be soon.

Senior citizens or borderline seniors here will think the world is doomed and expect the worst. Us younglings are aware of that but just don't really focus on it.

I think prices will remain the same BUT they will limit the number of tickets sales or guests entering the park to avoid overcrowding. That's the best way for them to still charge the same and still adhere to social distancing. I also feel more people will avoid parks for at least till next year for the 50th, hopefully it will somehow go back to normal.

When the gates reopen. It will busier than ever. Too many people are postponing their trip currently and people no longer fear debt. You will also have the vloggers who need material and the aps who cant wait to get back in. Its going to be crazy, just wait.
