Jury Duty

Well I just got home after reporting for Jury Duty instructions.

This was my first time called up so I didn't know what to expect. It took somewhat longer to get interviewed, since there were about 100 or so people already there.

There was a little unexpected excitement when some elderly gentlemen proceeded to walk right into the glass "wall" next to the glass door of the waiting room, and the whole pane of glass shattered, sending glass flying onto us all.

I have to report to the court house every Tuesday and Thursday morning for the month of February (except for Feb 12th & 14th, due to Mardi Gras).

Should be interesting...

The only time I served on a jury was about 30 years ago! We were called for 2 weeks straight...had to show up every day, even if we didn't sit on a trail. I learned lots of neat card games! ;)

I was called up again 18 years ago, and again 8 years ago. Both times I was excused because I was nursing an infant. I don't think they're going to buy it next time! ;)

Here in CT, you're called for 1 day...if you aren't chosen for a jury, then you don't have to go back for three years....

Two years ago, I was called just before our vacation....PANIC when I was chosen for a murder trial that was gonna last 4 weeks...a few prayers later, I recognized the name of one of the witnesses and the judge excused me....that was a close one.

Can't you just tell them you hate whatever race the defendant is and be excused?? I would imagine telling them you are severely racist would get you taken off the jury pretty quick.

Or use the old george carlin bit...when they ask you if you consider yourself a good juror say, yeah...because i can spot guilty people just like that!

lmao...don't think that didn't cross my mind....i figured when they got to the Voir Dire, I'd simply say that I think the defendent should be given the death penalty....or something like that....
