Jungle Cruise Re-Imagining

I believe it's the Congo Kate scene but I could be mistaken.

More Monkeys?

It's odd that Disney removed a (1957) newsreel of performing chimpanzees at the Saint Louis Zoo from the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant many years ago, but is now filling the Jungle Cruise with what are essentially performing chimpanzees (and other monkeys). Mickey's left hand never seems to know what his right hand is doing. 😆

Keep that in mind when AAs of Olivia Rodrigo and the cast of High School Musical replace the dancing natives.
Yes, they will be placed next to that rock we've all been living under.

Rumor has it...
In genre, her music can be best described as at the center of a three way venn diagram between levitating bedroom balladry, unkempt psychadelic grunge, and uptempo pop-rock, although perhaps more instrumental to her musics success than the production is the lyrics and themes. She sings with honesty, specificity, and humor, conveying the abstract pangs of angst and heartbreak as a vivid image of the rebellion and sadness of youth.

Objecting to the changes is one thing, but claiming that the ride as it stood had anything to do with educating people is quite the stretch!
Oh, I don't even object to the changes. Just pointing out there was a way to turn the currently racist depictions into something valuable by taking advantage of Marc's realistic depiction of what they wear.
What? There are like 60 different people groups in Papua New Guinea. And the scene is in the African/Congo River section of the ride. accuracy was clearly not a priority.
We know Marc and Alice collected art and artifacts from PNG during the 70s. And if you look at the natives and compare what they're wearing to real indigenous people it's obvious that's what Marc was doing.

And replying to you and the below:
Wouldn’t that add to the issue? I was under the impression this was supposed to be an African tribe since we were in the Congo river, and as such wouldnt not only weaken the impact of the culture since New Guinea is in the Pacific implying that all non Western civilizations are a like? Just my thoughts if I’m wrong about it being the Congo then I take it back but they should have really make that stick out more.
You're both completely right. It's just using some sort of indigenous imagery to be a shorthand for "scary savage natives" and that's completely unacceptable. The bone in the nose, while a real thing, doesn't help.

Again, not trying to say it should've stayed. Just paying respect to Marc's influences and the actual indigenous people who should've been given positive representation in the park in the first place. Even though they're geographically in the wrong place.

I know ride capacity is an issue - hey Disney why don't you take a hint and actually built more stuff to do in the world's busiest theme park - but it just seems ridiculous to continue to operate the ride in its present disjointed state. Just shut it down and get the scenes in ASAP and then reopen it.

I don’t think “positive representation” of indigenous people is even possible in an attraction like the Jungle Cruise. The very concept smacks too much of colonialism and human zoos.

Agreed, that's why I said the park :) Your earlier comment made me reconsider the context the ride puts these representations in.

Seems like there's a pretty big difference between a show consisting of actual live chimpanzees forced to perform for human entertainment and fake, robot chimpanzees programmed to imitate wild monkeys causing mischief.

What's with the Chimp fixation? There are so many species of ape's out there that are actually more entertaining and colorful. of course for Jungle Cruise purposes AA's are the way to go vs live.

I'm not sure. I think the human-like movements and intellect of chimps are easier to add into a sight gag. If you're going with realistic animals, a chimpanzee's human-like hands and mannerisms make it easier to convey physical comedy vs. something like a realistic cape buffalo or something.

So the Jungle Cruise is going to become the Stand-Up version of the Animal Kingdom's Radio Disney Cruise? occasionally something to look at but just about bad jokes? Kind of a shame... Seems like there is much more they could do with it.... So it will be mostly vacant except for monkey and chimp gags...
Great....

Everything being removed will be replaced by something.

Do we know that or is it just a guess? Will it be replaced in 3-5 years? So far none of the revitalized scene concepts live up to what they are replacing.... Monkey with a map, Monkey with a hat, Monkey with a net, Monkey on a boat, Monkey wrecking base camp....

At Magic Kingdom Park, you can continue to enjoy the Jungle Cruise while updates are being made, and all changes will be completed this summer.
