Jungle Cruise Re-Imagining

This isn’t woke politics…

It’s called growth. Humanity is growing despite the kicking and screaming from some.

Racism hidden behind humour and tradition that may have been charming before, is still racism.

This mindset is outdated, and it is being addressed by society.

And regardless, there was no big public push to change the JC, this was Disney making their own decisions (IMO the right decisions) based on where society is wanting to be right now.

I'm not saying I'm against the changes but look at the pushback Marni got just because he had a different point of view and don't tell me wokism isn't involved. Are we allowed to debate or aren't we?

No, it is a knee jerk reaction to the "woke" insult that doesn't exist.
I frankly think all of these changes are upgrades. Did Jungle Cruise need this much work? No. In most cases this type of thing would be down for an IP tie in. We are not getting that. Who knew removing some skulls or whatever would break people. Although I am not surprised.

I think the pushback you see is because there are some who frequent this site who are against any and all change in the parks and find something negative in absolutely everything Disney does and to be honest, it gets old. If the change and evolution of the parks makes anyone feel this much negativity in your life, it may be time to find a new passion.

It's fine to have one thing here or another there that you're not a fan of, but when you passionately dislike virtually everything they are doing, it's time to rethink things.

Um, doesn’t debate mean that pushback happens? That’s what happens in debate. People put forward beliefs, and some challenge/push back, while others agree. Debate doesn’t mean a view gets put forth without challenge. 🤷‍♀️

I don't know. They are just getting underway with these changes and sharing bits and pieces at a time. The loss of some skulls isn't the end all be all and really shouldn't be for anyone.
Oh, it's not the end all be all, and I am for the changes that they have talked about so far, but removing something for no apparent reason has some of us questioning what they heck are they thinking. There was nothing inherently wrong with the skulls where they were, and if Disney is changing the story, then tell us what the new story is PRIOR to removing more of the set pieces. Then we can debate the merits of said changes in a reasonable manner.

Since Disney has chosen the approach of keeping the attraction open while doing these updates, the other option is that we can all wait until they are done before pre-judging what it will be. There is great history of pre-hate in the Disney 'fan' community that ends up being totally forgotten when the final result is well done and a net positive.

I for one will wait until they are done before deciding if I like the new version of the Jungle Cruise instead of obsessing over ever individual step along the transition.

But that's just me.

The Pigmies as specifically mentioned in the script
So any pygmies around here that are offended???? I say again. If they are changing the script for that scene, then tell us what it is becoming PRIOR to removing any of the set pieces. It really isn't that hard for them to do, as we all know they have storyboards built months or even years in advance of any changes - so they already know exactly what is going on there. So tell us.

They did tell us about a story, they put out some text a while ago.

To everyone else, if you're so hurt about the removal of a caricature of an indigenous people then you have issues man. The term "wokeness" is stupid and using it just shows that you're incapable of listening and really don't want to have a discussion. All you want to do is call people liberals or socialist or communists and complain that America isn't a god fearing white country that eats hamburgers, hotdogs and apple pie.

Disney has a track record of Disneyifcation of history and this is just an example of them doing it to your brain.

Oh, I completely agree with not judging things until we see them in person. My issue is that Disney has been forthcoming with information about some of the changes (which I like, btw), but simply removing set pieces without explanation makes no sense to me at all.

Hmm, not sure who you are responding to here, because it certainly isn't me. I've never talked about "wokeness" and have never called anyone names like you just did. They have NOT told us the whole story yet, only small bits and pieces, and removing set pieces for no explanation is what seems to be upsetting some. If they have a better story, then please, lay it on us, and I'm sure we'll go with it.

Instead of this crazy piecemeal approach, I would have much rather they shut down the ride for however long it would take to make all of the changes all at once. Then when it reopened, we could go on the ride, and judge for ourselves whether we like the changes or not.

I think it's kind of unreasonable to expect them to publish the project plan of each step of changes. They are only going to update us on what the final goal state is, not publish the project plan for each nightly step and why this piece or that is being removed. They've given us concept art of a couple of scenes so far and we'll likely see more as we go forward. I'd just focus on where it's going, not the steps to get there.
