Dark Horizons has this to report on the Jungle Cruise movie:

"Walt Disney Pictures is giving high-priority status to another movie project based on a Disneyland ride reports Reuters.

"Smallville" showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar are in negotiations to write "Jungle Cruise," an adventure movie and potential franchise that is being produced by Mandeville Films."

Awesome! I can't wait!

Just read the same thing on another site, apparently the original source is The Hollywood Reporter. -Hopefully The Jungle Cruise Movie will be more like Pirates than The Haunted Mansion Movie!

I'll say it before and i'll say it again, how to make this movie a hit:
Set it in 1937 (or thereabouts)
have a quest for treasure or some other macguffin
give us a good sarcastic (drunken?) skipper and a bunch of characters we care about (PotC formula, but it still works for this movie)
a really truly EVIL villian
a ton of attraction references (might be hard considering that the attraction takes place around the world), but include a temple, a downed aircraft, angry natives, the elephant pool, and a waterfall

Things to avoid:
annoying children (see: the Mummy Returns)
an annoying family (see: the Haunted Mansion)
an idiot for a villian
an overly preachy "save the rainforest" plot (hey, i'm a staunch environmentalist, but i go to movies to ESCAPE reality)
a lame pop song by whichever little marketing droid-ette Disney is currently pushing

Any chances they'll hire you for the script?

CofeeJedi. What you said really reminded me of what I tried to do with my Jungle Cruise fan fiction. I had hoped that a Jungle Cruise movie would not come a reality.

Although besides the corny humor(and great at that!) the attraction's basis is from :"The African Queen"

From what I got out of the reading, it made it sound like they are gonig to try and take a more serious approach.

I agree with you on that. I think not only should they have references to the ride itself, but maybe a few from other classic Adventureland attractions, such as the Enchanted Tiki Room, and the 5 water-spitting tikis that is by the entrance of the ride (or at least it is in WDW). :D

All very-well said. Maybe we could have Hugh Laurie for our skipper? That would rock!

EDIT: My 600th post!

What will be interesting is which version of the ride they end up embracing for the film. JC started out as taking itself quite seriously, I've gathered, and as the AA animals became less psychologically menacing (i.e., as technology advanced to the point where a robotic python wasn't so awe-inspiring and as guests got the chance to see the genuine articles at AK), the ride adopted the more comical, self-referentially mocking tone that is now associated with it. I would guess the movie would have a mix of the two, with some serious action and tongue-in-cheek humor blended to try and please everyone.

Actually, I don't think the attraction ever took itself too seriously. Perhaps the initial idea of the Jungle Cruise was going to be slightly more serious as Walt originally wanted live animals (an idea quickly abandoned as it was realized they would always be sleeping when guests were around), but even a book about Disneyland from 1964 quotes skippers saying such classics as, "Keep your hands and arms inside the boat - these crocodiles are always looking for a hand-out." And, "Gentlemen, if your mother-in-law is still aboard you've missed a golden opportunity." Also, Animal Kingdom had nothing to do with Jungle Cruise being self-referential or comical. If anything, Animal Kingdom is what Walt originally wanted the Jungle Cruise to be...they just didn't possess the know-how to do it back then.
As for the movie, I suppose my only real fear is that they'll do with Jungle Cruise the attraction what they did to Pirates of the Caribbean the attraction and we'll get stuck with out-of-place audio animatronic characters who totally change the plot of the attraction. Yes, I know, there really isn't a "plot," per se in the Jungle Cruise, but I really don't want them fudging it up by adding "the wisecracking hero" as an audio-animatronic here and there throughout the scenes to try to link it to the film. I think the Jack Sparrow additions to Pirates of the Caribbean (and the subsequent plot changes because of it) were unfortunate and unnecessary, though I'm sure many disagree.
Here's hoping they at least do a good job on the movie.

And hopefully some Adventurers Club tie-ins, since the two are linked via the suitcases that used to be in the queue area.

I can only hope............

Agreed. Could you imagine how much the initial Spiel would have to be changed?
