Jungle Book Cruise... You Just *Know* They're Thinking About It

I remember that. I didn't really care for the inserted Lion King music. Seemed very off.

Ah yes, I more so meant the projection mapping tunnel. I can't keep the versions straight in my head. Hong Kong's is nice, but the English tours are so outrageously poorly translated that it hampers the experience.

(even though the original has held up just fine for 60 years).

That's debatable. Some features have fared very well. The jungle has grown and looks incredibly realistic, for example. The AAs and plot line, however, are a different story. And don't even get me started on how embarrassingly awful the ride represents indigenous Africans.

Funny, both of these things that *could* be shoved into DL (SWL and JB, only one confirmed and/or rumored) have much better spots in WDW at different parks.
Agreed, better spots exist back east. But, even though I started this thread in a kidding mode, I do think a Jungle Book overlay could be done tastefully and brilliantly while insuring DL's Jungle stays safe, which would be my biggest reason for wanting such a change (though I'm glad to hear it's not being eyed for expansion space yet) BTW, is it true that the Tarzan treehouse overlay was done to keep that attraction from the wrecking ball?

OH! OH! How about Baloo's Bachelor Treehouse? :D

The most they should ever do to Jungle Cruise is updated mechanical animals and newer jokes should they ever choose to.
But, Mike S., remember DL's Jungle Cruise has been changed many times over the decades, with whole scenes being added, removed or altered. It's always been changing. When it debuted, it was *dead serious* about being a straight-faced nature adventure. When Marc Davis added the Elephant Pool and Lost Safari, there were squawks from people who didn't like the shift from naturalism to fantasy and comedy. More comedy was added later with the Camp Invasion. The boats got Indy-fied and the Temple of the Forbidden Eye became part of the spiel. Cheesy, fun comedy thrills were added with the Pirhana attack. There has never been one definitive version of Jungle Cruise. The new JB movie is full of beauty and wonder and terror that would look 100% at home on that ride. If one could enjoy JB additions without ever having seen the film, why would it matter they originated from a film when the ride itself originated from Disney's True Life films? If JB additions could actually improve the ride a lot (let's just pretend for a moment) and bring crowds flocking, wouldn't that be a plus?

And, please remember I'm taking this side of the argument for fun, and because I love the new movie, though, yeah, I think the new version of JB could be awesome on JC. One thing I am dead serious about, however, is ensuring DL's magnificent Jungle is never bulldozed.

The changes that have been made to Jungle Cruise over the decades would in NO WAY compare to turning it into a Jungle Book ride. Speaking of odd comparisons, the True Life films obviously are nothing like The Jungle Book. You wouldn't compare Disneynature's African Cats to The Lion King, would you?

Raven24, just to be clear, I'm talking about the new film, not the cel animated '67 one. The beautiful settings and realistic animals of the movie would look perfectly at home on the banks of the JC river. 100%. There'd be no stylistic clash at all. And, no, I wouldn't include the singing. :)

As a side note, Disney's "True Life" films included quite a bit of staging, faking and scripting. They were still wonderful films, and succeeded at introducing the masses to the wonders of nature... but there's a lot of Shamu showbiz in them, too.
([EDIT] I'm referring to the original True Life films that inspired JC and Mine Train, not the newer Disneynature films.)

BTW, I do applaud your love of DL's heritage. Don't take everything I write dead seriously; I just like to play with possibilities. :)

Rich, I wouldn't waste my time with her, she believes DL should be static. She is a prime example of someone that believes that things were better before she was born. If Disney did that, the parks would have closed years ago.

I guess for some people it is bad to toonify an area even WITH a real Disney IP. I see nothing wrong with overlaying the Jungle Cruise with Jungle Book elements or even a complete story.

Just saw this again today. If there's anyone out there who hasn't experienced (live or via Youtube) the wonderful bizarre-ness of Hong Kong's Jungle Cruise, check out this great video of the ride. The skipper just might be my favorite Disney cast member ever.

I wonder what those ducks are thinking about as a flying elephant is overhead.

Ok, everybody sing!

I saw a peanut stand, heard a rubber band
And seen a needle wink its eye
But I be done seen about everything
When I see an elephant fly
When I see an elephant fly

I've seen a front porch swing, heard a diamond ring
I've seen a polka dot railroad tie
But I be done seen about everything
When I see an elephant fly

I saw a clothes horse rear up and buck
And they tell me that a man made a vegetable truck
I didn't see that, I only heard
Just to be sociable, well, I'll take your word

I heard a fireside chat, I saw a baseball bat
And I just laughed till I thought I'd die
But I be done seen about everything
When I see an elephant fly

But I be done seen about everything
When I see an elephant fly
When I see an elephant fly
