So we were thinking of planning a trip June 28 to July 8. How are the crowds that time? Do things get slammed for the fourth?

The crowds and the heat are both pretty insane. It is not uncommon for MK to hit at least a phase 1 closure on the 4th.

The heat we can deal with. I am more concerned about crowds. Phase I would mean like 60-70 min waits on the popular things. Splash I would say is in its own world for waits with heat.

We have never been on the Fourth. Is it something to see or just kind of a fizzle?

I am not much for stifling crowds so the 4th of July is a complete no go for me in the parks. Outside the parks however is a different matter. Last year we did a spur of the moment trip to WDW on the 3rd to watch the fireworks and it turned out to be a great day. Here is the trip report.

Two summers ago we were there on the 3rd and 4th (and beyond). I still can't believe the experience. We went fearing the heat and crowds as I had read about how busy it would be. I guess the economy saved us because aside from the crowd around the castle to watch the fireworks on the third (elbow to elbow), it really wasn't that bad. We watched Illuninations on the fourth. The MK fireworks with the independance day theme as well as the extra at illuminations made the extra crowds worth it. Again, I was probably spoiled with an economy-driven, lower than average crowd, but I would do it again. (with that said, next years trip is planned for August instead of when wife wanted to go at July 4th again as I am still fearful that we just got lucky and I could save 400+ beans by going in August.) As for the heat, the parks are built to minimize the exposure with shade and fans and AC in the line areas. Wasn't an issue for us. In fact, we liked it as it gave us an excuse to use the pools at the resort more. Just my 2 cents

Arrived on the 2nd of July this year and until about the 8th it was pretty quiet, at least from my observations.
