Journey into Imagination - any updates?

It could happen that soon? Wow, last time I heard anything about this, I thought the date was 2009-ish, unless this rumor is seperate from the old "Sky Dance" rumor.

(I don't mean to hijack the Imagination thread, but this caught my attention.)

I didn't mean that it would premier on said date, but that it wouldn't premier before that date. It could premier as early as then, but I highly doubt it even though I know very well of what they are working on. A new fireworks show is in the works but they are working to make it perfect as it is extremely difficult to fill the shows of Reflections of Earth and the Imagineers know that...

SSE isn't getting anything new, just a bunch of stuff that hasn't worked in ten years has started working. Anyway, SSE has had additions made every couple of years, and most of the stuff in the present/future scenes aren't really that old. Imagination has some major backing, but a few other projects have been given priority over a ride that was just invested in not even five years ago. The mexico refurb, the rush to open the Toy Story Mania rides at the same time, the unexpected delay of Monsters Inc., and mostly the entertainment that was thrown together for the YoamD have eaten a large number of funds. A project that was rising through the ranks last spring, was suddenly halted because of a last minute celebration that required recognition by the brands leading resort. In the attempt to create a Year of a million dreams, one big dream was put on the way back burner. If you expect SSE to undergo any changes other than a new audio system, and steam that actually comes from a printing press, then i am sorry someone got all your hopes up. The 25th isn't coming because the Walt Disney Company decided to not present seperate park identities, but instead a collective branding Disney Parks. Listen, i am not here to be a know it all, no one likes a know it all. I just want to get the facts straight that SSE will not see big changes before JII, even if no changes begin until 2008, and open 2009.:brick:

Imagineers dont create the night time shows for the parks, Disney artists do.. It says so in the Imagineering guides to the Magic Kingdom and Epcot.

I'm sorry, don't beleive that nothing is happeneing to SSE.

Siemens has invested a massive sum of money into the ball and to leave in AT&T's descent seems silly for them.

Actually changes are coming to the finale of SSE basically removing the entire descent scene and changing it except for the futuristic city model. Changes are coming- a Siemen's representative confirmed this when I spoke to her about 3 weeks ago...

I have a friend that is an Imagineer- he created much of the story for the Music, Magic and Mayhem Fireworks Spectacular (though he isn't credited because he didn't assemble the score). I am sure he disagrees with the Imagineering guide...

Jedi, things get fuzzy because the same people don't work on every project. For example, Don Dorsey Productions does several WDW shows (and Epcot's next, no?) and they're not technically Imagineers. They're an outside company who has a very good working relationship with WDI.

I agree that Kodak needs to go. I would say have WD Imagineering take over the building. Showcasing things to come and things that might be. Let the guest test out new ideas and let the help create new concepts. When you get people involved they're more attached to it, building better consumers. Simple business.

Several major sponsors have agreements for Innoventions that aren't represented. Amoung them, Siemens and Burnham Institute (the biomedical who was promised Epcot space for free). Over at DL, the AT&T stuff is in the process of being ripped out and replaced with Siemens.

The Too Small to See area is temporary - i think it expires in like May or something. Maybe June? Someone else can look that up :) It currently covers a large part of Innoventions West, but is to leave and become a touring educational exhibit at science centers around the country.

Burnham? Awesome! They do some incredible neuroscience research dealing with aging and they are leaders in the field of human embryonic stem cells. They will be a very welcome addition to Innoventions (and Orlando...they are opening a new operation there).

They need to take the reasonably cool special effects of the current version and add those to the character and story of the original ride. All the original ride needed in its update was new effects and science videos that didn't look like they were made in the 1950s.

You know, I think you just described every single pavilion at EPCOT Center.

Wouldn't something like Burnham do well in...dare I say it...Wonders of Life? :lookaroun

P.S. Thanks Jedi for clearing that up. I didn't think it would open as soon as October rolled around, but still, it seemed like it was coming out of the blue. I'm glad to hear they're working hard at making this new show just as good, if not better than, Reflections of Earth. I'll be sad to see RoE go, but I'm anxious to see what the replacement turns out to be.

Burnham doesn't have that kind of money. Their exhibit is free to them--as part of the $300,000,000 deal Florida has made with them to coax them out of the perfect weather of San Diego to branch off into muggy Orlando...

I think that's an awesome idea. How about Figment and Dream Finder leading a tour of an Imagineer's imagination.

Is Kodak more likely to get the point that they need to do something (something being pull sponsorship or give money) with the Imagination pavillon if they were to get a bunch of angry letters?

Kodak isn't what it used to be back in the 80's and 90's. There are limitless possibilities for this pavillion and they aren't utilizing it. Disney's all about making magic and letting your imagination run free, why not showcase your own talents.

How much is a bunch? Fifty? One hundred? A thousand?

Considering how small "we" (we being Disneyana fanatics) are percentage-wise in regards to Disney... imagine how much smaller we are in comparison to the general populations that Kodak caters to. That, and Kodak doesn't get their primary identification from Figment and Nigel... Kodak is more sponsored in the film they sell than the ride their name is plastered on.

It's a real shame what has become of the imagination pavilion. I remember my first trip in 87' I loved figment (my sister, and I both had the figment hand puppets), and the whole ride experience. When I finally got back to EPCOT in 2001 I couldn't wait to ride Journey into Imagination (I had no idea the ride was changed) As soon as I entered the building I could tell something was different, then after getting on the ride, and not seeing Dreamfinder, or Figment anywhere I said to my girl "What the hell is this mess." About 3 months after we returned home, I started hearing things about another JII redo. I got my hopes up, and when I rode the current version, I thought it was better than the last (I was glad to see figment again), but still lacking the magic of the first version. I hope they can restore some of the attractions former magic, but I have my doubts. BTW, does Kodak still have a strong hold on the picture industry, I mean with all the digital advances made in cameras in the last few years, I can't imagine them being as big as they were in the mid 80's. Oh well, I hope the next version is better than this one. Here's to hope, and a little Disney magic :o

I have been waiting...watching and hoping to hear something soon. I know that the budget has been fished from to help other attractions, and it wasn't that long ago that 3rd revision was put into play. What I don't get is why Disney even needs corporate sponsors for Future World attractions? Maybe I haven't been observent, but do attractions in the other 3 parks rely on corporate funding? Does Universal Studios use corporate funding for their attractions?

Sony is not exactly the financial powerhouse it used to be. The company is hemorrhaging money on the PS3. The big payoff for Immersion doesn’t help their stock much either. Personally, I’d rather see them partner with someone who has a bit firmer financial sense and more capital to sink into an attraction/pavilion. Right now I think Siemens is doing wonderful things and, hopefully, will help Epcot blossom once more. If you have to have sponsors, get more sponsors like them, I say. :D

This has always been one of the key factors of EPCOT, to showcase the best of American and international industry.
