Many media projects just disappear without any kind of announcement or acknowledgement. There was a Prydain Chronicles movie series in development for Disney like 7 or 8 years ago and nothing ever came of it, but there was no announcement or reporting that it was dead. It just never happened.
I'm not suggesting this definitely means the BTMR project is dead -- just that you shouldn't necessarily expect to read somewhere that it's been killed/abandoned even if it has been.
