During the Christmas season, the Contemporary Resort use to host the Jolly Holidays Dinner Show. This musical extravanganza features Mickey and all of the Disney characters, plus a fine cast of singers and dancers, in a real Christmas time treat. Everything from traditional Christmas carols to an abbreviated version of the Nutcracker Suite kept us entertained as we enjoyed a fancy Christmas dinner of fresh baked turkey, honey-baked ham, and all the fixings.

What did you think about the show?

Do you miss it?

Which version did you like?

92-97 or the new 98 (which stunk)

I realy enjoyed the show.

Never saw it, but It sounds good. I think Disney should feature more dinner shows, and offer a different variety from the Hoop Dee Doo and Luau. There are a bunch of ideas they could use.

mktiggerman - Great Avatar!

We saw the show in 1992. My daughter's first trip (almost 6 at the time). We really enjoyed it. It was a true Disney production, music, dancing, characters. Very special.

HEY! This is one that we actually saw! DH and I saw it back in 1997 (I wanna say)! It was AWESOME! Really! We really enjoyed it and wish they would bring the original show back!

On the down-side, it was kind of expensive but if you think about what you pay at a character dining, it really wasn't that bad. I want to say that we spent what about $30-34 per person? That's not too bad when it comes to a dinner and show!:animwink:

Please Disney, bring it back:!cry::cry:   :lookaroun

I didn't see the 1998 version, but I saw the original twice, in 1994 and 1996. It was my favorite dinner show - recognizable characters, great food, impeccable choreography and singing, and a sense of Christmas spirit. Now I'm squirreling up tickets to MVMCP (as well as MNSSHP, mind you.) so I can refresh my mind of the past show.

This is a new one on me! Had to go do a little research...sounds interesting, kind of a more intimate MVMCP.

Bet you thought this thread wouldn’t come back didn’t you! LOL!!!

Look what I found on youtube:

Jolly Holidays 1994 FULL SHOW!!

BEST X MAS SHOW in WDW History!!! Now we know where the opening song and the dancer costumes came from for Celebrate The Season.

Some things really surprised me about seeing this show again. Yes, again. I saw this show live the same year, 1994, and am shocked at how much I don’t remember about the show. I was 9, so I wasn’t that young. The only things I really remember is the pyro at the end and the number Jolly Holidays didn’t look the same as it did on the “Magic Of Christmas At WDW” videotape you could buy down there. Maybe the videotape had the 1992 version on it. I also can’t remember that they did peace on earth at the end and the before dinner show. How long before dinner was that done? I wonder if we missed it.

Another thing that surprised me was so much of the music material was reused for Jolly Holidays. A lot of the music came from either MK’s Sparkling Christmas Spectacular or the Magic Kingdom Yuletide Special. (old Disney Channel X MAS show on youtube based on DL‘s Magic Of Christmas show from the 80’s (I think???)) Even The Toyland unit music from DL’s Very Merry Christmas Parade from the 90’s was in there!

Jolly Holidays didn’t start until 1992?? I thought it started earlier. Anyone remember how bad the 1998 version was?? Actually, wasn’t Sparkling Christmas Spectacular’s last year 98 also? I wonder if both shows were badly produced in 1998??

Anyone have vids of Sparkling Christmas Spectacular?? Am I missing anything that wasn’t in Jolly Holidays? Granted the Story about Scrooge isn’t in there but it seems like all the music is there.

I saw the Jolly Holidays Dinner Show and it was awesome. It was held inside one of the huge ballrooms inside the Contemporary, and the tables seated around 8 people...each table had a lazy susan in the middle, making it easy to share dinner with everyone seated. The show was classic Disney World, with characters and lots of Christmas cheer. I was so sad to see it end in '98, and I've wanted them to bring it back ever since...sadly it hasn't returned.

The best thing about jolly holiday was that the music was live.

My family used to go every year - I was really little at the time. I remember hating it lol - had to sit at a table with people I didn't know and eat yucky food. I imagine I'd love it today. I certainly love the opening song (which thankfully lives on). In fact I remember when Celebrate the Season premiered thinking it was like a short version of jolly holiday.

yeah it was a fun show...the Contemporary ballrooms are really nice, it made for a nice setting...and if I recall, most people dressed up for the show and didn't just arrive in shorts and a WDW t-shirt. I have it on video, I should post it onto YouTube.
