Johnny Depp officially signs on for 'Pirates 4'

I felt that at the end of part 3 there was going to be a part 4 and have waited with baited breath for it. Or I think they would have released a box set. I feel that part 3 was slow to start but was over all great, it really came together. I love these movies because it lets you go to a different world and not have to be deep in thought after a hard day of work. I APPLAUD DISNEY FOR MAKING A GREAT SERIES OF MOVIES AND NOT HAVING TO BE RATED R AND A TON OF TRASH!!!!:sohappy::sohappy::sohappy:

Bruckheimer has proven himself pretty sharp.

:ROFLOL:

'Gone in 60 Seconds' was such a cinematic classic! :ROFLOL:

Depp as Sparrow is gold. There is no denying that. It was great enough for him to be nominated for an Oscar, and he held the sloppy sequels together.

Pirates, as a trilogy, is nothing more than a 'on the water' version of the original Star Wars trilogy (and mind you, the Star Wars trilogy is nothing more than Lord the Rings - in space).

I also got tired of person a backstabbing person b, to make person c do something for person d, while person b plans his own backstabbing for person e, all the while - person c is the brains of the entire ordeal.

Despite the weak plot (the Pirate movies is as in-depth as 'Where's Waldo!" :ROFLOL:), these films has some of the greatest film set-pieces Disney (or any studio) has come up with in a very long time. The last 40 minutes of Pirates 3 is gold.

Anyhow, I don't mind another Pirates flick. Depp as Sparrow is what makes the Pirate flicks work. Without him, 'Cutthroat Island 2'?

By the way - anyone that expects Depp to be in 'Batman 3', you can stop already. Nolan doesn't pick the obvious. That's what made Ledger an unique choice, and ultimately, the best.

I wasn't.

More epic fantasy supernatural stories, less stupidly simple "Focus Group" movies, I say!

I was referring to the "average" viewer of the movies; not the fanatics like us

A complicated story about characters that you love make you want the DVD. I had to watch Worlds End many times to absorb the nuances. I love deep Dep.

Clooney/Depp? Slap me twice and hand me to my momma.
Here again, to the fanatics, yes, we buy the DVD and just for arguement sake, I was saying that I wonder if they could have more sales of DVD's etc if the story lines werent so indepth so the "average" viewer would be more engauged.

it is just a thought. I could careless either way, as long as they have hot pirate chics booty :drevil:

negative but true...

I hated the end of the third movie.

The beginning and middle weren't much to write home about either!

So you mean two movies ago.

Amen brother!

I'm hoping Pirates 4 will be more of a spin-off rather than an actual continuation of the trilogy. Basically an epilogue to the trilogy if you will. Either way, I'm excited!:sohappy: I'm also very excited by the Alice in Wonderland and Lone Ranger news.

I'm really hoping you're right. The reaction from fans and general public could very well be "they're still trying to make money off of that?"

Yahoo is quick on the ball, I knew about it this morning.

Besides, that's just a legal footnote, it's not happening anytime soon. The actual big news is the confirmation that Johnny Depp will be playing the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton's animated Alice in Wonderland, the even bigger news is that he'll be playing Tonto in The Lone Ranger. (Possibly with George Clooney in the title role!!! Awesome!!! I'll take that now please!)

It's also be written by the Epicly-amazing-writers of Pirates of the Caribbean!
:D

In my eyes Tim Burton isn't usually good either, and hasn't been since '94:

Corpse Bride: I want my money back/ give me a full length movie.
Mars Attacks: Nice try.
Planet of the Apes: I wanted to fling poo.
Sweeny Todd: Far worse than any stage production I've seen.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: Gene Wilder is spinning in his grave.

But I love the idea of Depp as the Mad Hatter.

Bruckheimer has proven himself pretty sharp.
...

What? Sharp enough to ride Don Simpson's coat tails, parlay it into a string of Nick Cage movies and convince CBS to buy bad TV shows? I guess he is pretty sharp.

It was reported that after the 2nd movie was done and filming for the 3rd had started,Depp was asked and agreed to 3 more movies.Story at that time was that those would be a series based solely on Jack Sparrows adventures, and not a continuation of POTC.
