Job as Waitstaff

In November I will begin a position as a photopass photographer. However, I won't be making enough money to rent a place alone, so I'll need a second job.

I have experience as a waitress. Does anyone have any experience with waitstaff jobs at Disney World? I heard that they do not hire full time waitstaff. You can only work 2 days a week. Does anyone know if that is true?

Can you work in photopass and at a Disney or Downtown Disney restaurant?

If anyone has any details about pay and working requirements, I'd be grateful.

Couple things for you. Yes, servers can and do work full time. No, within The Walt Disney Company, you cannot hold 2 separate jobs at one time. Now there are certain times when you can be crosstrained in another area, but that's an entirely different discussion. however, there are PLENTY of opportunities (especially in DPI [disney photo imagin]) to pick up extra hours from the Extra Hours Hotline.

Would she be able to work someplace like the House of Blues at Downtown Disney? It isn't owned by Disney but it's on Disney property so I don't know if that counts.

Thanks so much for all the replies.

Hmmm. Maybe I should switch to full time server at Disney. Although I imagine the photopass job holds more room for advancement, Disney restaurants are ALWAYS busy with never an empty table. The price range is high enough that I stand to make a lot more money as a server. I've never seen server jobs advertised though.

Does anyone know if these are difficult to get?

And yes, how about working at a Wolfgang's or something like that?

Sure could. I have a lot of friends that served part time at Planet Hollywood. You could work for any of the operating participants. May I make a few suggestions? of the places friends work, the most popular seem to be Rainforest Cafe, Raglan Road, and House of Blues. Some friends work at Planet Hollywood, as well as Fulton's, and even Alfredo's, but none are big fans of working in those locations. But like I said, you may be better served working your hours in photo imaging, as you'll be earning your over time rate, and may even have some opportunities for doubletime, where as working in a different company, your hours would be straight time. there are LOTS of locations with DPI now, and you could really have a lot of fun. Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagood just got DPI, and those are GREAT locations to work. You get to wear sandals to work there too!

Typhoon Guy,

What is this DPI? I've never heard of it before. I think it is a toss up as to how/where I would make more money, serving or photographing.

Full Time Servers

Was just reading, and wanted to let you know before you set your mind on something and then become dissapointed:

Currently, there is a freeze on hiring full time servers at Disney. (It's been awhile since they have been actively hiring those roles) You could become Part Time, though (I am not sure how long it takes to become hired though, since there are a lot of people interested in becoming servers at Disney).

Just wanted to give you the heads up. :animwink:

Good luck with everything! Also know that PT servers do make a good amount of money, especially if you can manage to have another PT job somewhere else to get some extra cash.

yes there are full time servers, however it is an earned status. You have to start off Part Time and eventually you can earn full time.

as for the comment that you can not hold 2 positions at WDW...there are about a million billion restaurants in the orlando area...so you can always get a job at one of those...it doesnt necesarrily have to be at Disney, does it?

All this advice is great. I really appreciate it. It doesn't have to be a Disney restaurant that I work at, I just want it to be a higher price restaurant that is always busy from opening to closing.

And is Disney Photo Imagin the name of the department I will be working for? I have never heard that term before.

yes, and sorry, typo, i missed the 'G' at the end. Photopass is commonly refered to on property as DPI (Disney Photo Imaging).

It really does depend on your age and your experience in life. When I start working at Disney in Nov, I will start higher than that due to my experience. However, it is still not enough to live on if I wish to rent a place on my own in a decent area, pay the bills on my own, and save for my retirement. I'm not 25 years old. I don't party every night, I don't want roommates who want to have lots of 'guests' over, and I have to pay all my bills myself. $20/hour would be a more decent wage.
