Jimmy Neutron Reviews Anyone?

Why does this thread seem like it's become a y debate about the merits of certain cartoon characters? Nothing anyone is saying in these comparisons between Hanna-Barbera and Nicktoons is anything most of us don't already know. In fact, to add my final two cents on this cartoon quality discussion, I agree that some Nicktoons have a weird animation style. But how many H-B toons have lame and lazy-looking chase scenes with run ons of rock, tree, mountain, rock, tree, mountain?

If anything I equate the reaction to this new ride alteration to Disney pulling Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald, etc. out of an attraction and replacing them w/ characters from their last four movies. Would that be a bit disappointing and dismaying? Sure. Could we argue that these new characters aren't as popular or deserving of a ride? You bet.

But that doesn't mean that Disney still couldn't come up with a kick ______ wickedly funny or exciting ride using Treasure Planet, Lilo and Stitch, Atlantis, and The Emperor's New Groove characters (note I excluded the Pixar stuff...and I think I got Disney's last four theatrical flicks w/ new characters right, but may have missed one). It isn't exactly that the public at large wouldn't recognize the characters from all four movies--even though Lilo was the only real hit of the bunch.

Question is, does this Jimmy Neutron incarnation work? I've read the Jim Hill review and he made it sound like loads of fun. I can't wait to take my kids, niece & nephew on it just to watch them crack up.

Truth is, when I'm reading a few of the reviews here--like the opinion and only the opinion of PurpleFigment--I'm left to wonder if it's a review of a "don't you dare alter my ride" purist, or if the ride truly didn't work certain individuals. Do you really need to have total knowledge of the Nick characters to enjoy it? Or is the overall frenetic silliness enough to make it a decent ride?

From what I've read, seems like the Chicken Dance part slays the room with laughter, and that there are plenty of other good jokes and nice adventurous bits thrown in as well. How hard do you need to be paying attention to get the humor, let alone get the overall storyline of the ride?

Or are the effects so mediocre that it makes it inferior and hard to sit through? These are the kind of questions I'd like to have answered.

End of my silly little rant. Guess I got hopped up on too many cookies at my kid's open house tonight. Thanks for reading.

Jimmy Who-tron?

Here's my three cents worth:

I think the Jim Hill review provided an opinion that was a tad over-rated. While the points were valid and I for the most part agree with those points, it might get some hopes up to an unrealistic expectation.

I think that the main premise of the ride could have used a slightly more original flavor. It is just too similar to the previous ride, that is, chasing someone else (who skidnapped your rocket / or Elroy in the original ride.) Jimmy is now one of two motion simulator rides at Universal Studios in which the theme is trying to catch someone else. In Back to the Future the "volunteers" chase Biff who kidnapped Doc's DeLorean. Sure, the premise makes sense, but I'm sure so too would another, more original premise.

The scenes go by too fast. The Rugrats scene for example does not spend enough time with the Rugrats. We don't really get to hear Tommy and Chucky say anything, and I don't think Angelica (who shares the most screen time) is the main star of the show. The Sponge Bob sequence is long enough, but maybe too long. I would have liked a more even balance of screen time for the classic Nicktoon shows. (Where in the world was Doug???) Also, the cameos are very easy to miss because of this overly-high paced chase. The original was much better paced in the "editing," if you want to call it that.

I think they could have benefitted from making the attraction 3-dimensional. Pass out those 3-D glasses. And since it was all done in the computer, it would have been much easier (and cheaper) than a live 3-D simulator film.

Speaking of presentation, the movie screen itself could have benefitted from a replacement ... a larger size screen, that is. I was expecting something more along the lines of the BttF type of Imax screen, something curved that covers more area in the riders' lines of vision.

I hope that the criticizing nature of these comments doesn't sound overly critical. I did in fact enjoy the ride (even though I never saw the Jimmy movie and I don't watch the majority of "current" Nicktoons.) I wish they could have incorporated some of the classic H/B cartoons in the new attraction. Maybe it that sense it could appeal to a larger audience.

Universal did a good job and their decision-making seems quite logical. I'm sure Shrek 4-D will follow suit.

I would have to agree that some of the scenes do tend to go by a little too quickly. It sometimes tends to be a little difficult to see some of the characters due to the speed of which you whiz by.
However I still liked the ride.
In relation to the whereabouts of Doug, I believe that Disney now holds the rights to this character hence the now gone Doug atraction at MGM.

Yesterday I rode Jimmy Neutron. The chicken dance scene left me with a migraine that lasted through the rest of the day. (And I don't usually get sick on rides.):hurl:

I finally got a chance to ride the ride yesterday. I have to admit it was good. If you go in with an open mind (ie- not 'Stupid Uni, getting rid of Yogi'), you will probably enjoy it. I feel that even if you don't fully know the characters, it gives you enough insight it to the ones used for you to understand what is going on. The script is funny if you can catch it (my fiance' and I both thought sound was off), and I like how they made it into a more 4-D type attraction (wetting you and light effects). It is a very emmersive ride that is very enjoyable. And the Dhali Lama is in it, how cool is that?

Overall- B+
