Jim Hill: Characters in Beastly Kingdomme

I think it's a great idea. I like the Beauty and the Beast thing someone was talking about, and I think a B&B dark ride could even fit in with that. A Bald Mountain Rollercoaster could be really cool too. I don't understand why the fans hate the characters so much. Isn't it because of the characters you became fans? I know my 4 year old sister hates going on the rides like pirates and the Haunted Mansion because she'd rather see Peter Pan and Winnie the Pooh. I'd be willing to bet people who go to Disney once ever 20-30 years would rather see characters as well.

Have any Jim Hill rumors, I mean reports, actually happened in the last few years? Any? I have never read any of his reports/rumors first hand, or ever been to his site. The media in Orlando seem to treat him like a real Insider, but I have never heard of anything in recent history that has actually jump into reality. Whos is this guy, and did he ever worh for Disny in any capacity of any relevance to real inside information?

This may be the way to go now...although there really is only a handful of characters.

Here are some they should focus on if they don't go the "character" route.

1. Medusa
2. Dragon (Maleficent?Elliot?Mushu?)
3. Unicorn/Pegasus (Herc?)
4. Griffon
5. Pheonix
6. Basilisk (lizard with many legs)
7. Hydra (Herc?)
8. Centaur/Minotaur
9. Cerberus (3 headed dog)
10. Cyclops
11. Fairies (Nice tie in  )
12. Kraken/Leviathon
13. Siren
14. Valkyrie
15. Werewolf
16. Will O the Wisp

To that list, I would like to add that 12 could be tied into Pirates and that Mermaids and the Headless Horseman could be incorporated as well.

So you're hearing the same thing, Lee? That ROL is being pulled? I was waiting to see what you had to say.
I thought various sources had said that a lot of the infrastructure had already even been put in place for it. :hammer:

Not entirely.
I had heard some time back that it was being "re-evaluated."
It's been a while, so anything could have happened.

Depending on who answers your question, you'll get a different answer. The "experts" here tell you that JHM is full of crap and grasps at straws.

The last "pile of dung" rumor to come out of JHM stated that the bridge/boardwalk at Liberty Square in MK was falling apart, was in need of emergency repair, and might need to be closed. As usual, the so-called experts here immediately commented that its not to be believed for face value since it came from JMH. EVERY post that mentions infor that camp is treated as such. Turns out it was 100% correct and somebody even posted where Disney applied for the permits to fix it. But of course, that is dismissed as that even a blind squirrel can sometimes find a nut. :animwink:

But its always good to read a thread where so far, all the experts have only agreed that JHM should be treated with skepticism and that all of the "insider" information is vague.

With any WDW rumor, I only believe it after they have raised ticket prices to pay for it and I then they let me see it. :ROFLOL:

Lee lending a little credence to the Jim Hill rumor? This now has me excited! I have to say, I am constantly impressed by Joe Rohde.

On a podcast a few weeks ago, Hill did mention that it would be Narnia based, he also mentioned that Disney was looking at the Hobbit franchise as well, but becuase of all the legal problems associated with that title Disney decided to do the easy thing and use a franchise they already had the rights to.

Having said all that I'll take Lee's word over Jim's any day.

where can I hear Hill's podcasts?

the podcast that jim hill is a part of is Nathan Rose's "Magical Definition Podcast".

i am never quite sure how i feel about jim hill. a lot of the stuff he says angers me to no end, but i still keep checking back to read his stuff....so he must be doing something right....

for the record....i am with the one poster who didn't understand why everyone hates the characters so much. seems like they picked the wrong park/company to have an interest in if they hate characters.... being that the Walt Disney company is based on Walt Disney's...you know....characters.

Lee lending a little credence to the Jim Hill rumor?
Eh...somewhat, I guess.
I can confirm that Rivers of Light may in fact be on the way out.
As for BK....not as much. I had heard a very slight rumor that they were looking at reviving the fantasy element at AK, but as far as I know, it would have little to nothing to do with the original BK concept. So much so that even referring to it as BK is probably off base.

I personally love the way AK handled Everest. I love that the mythological animals are treated as real. It helps to create engaging stories. I do think AK can add characters (ie lion king to Africa, Jungle Book to Asia, Bambi/Brother bear to north America if they ever build it). However I think the park needs to keep it's sense of realism on some level. It's what makes the park cool...it's fantastic, but yet grounded in real places...even the dinosaur section.

I agree. Its ok to have the characters in AK like you said but PLEASE if they do build BK (which I PRAY they do) don't bog it down with gift shops and characters. It should be like EE character free (mostly). The ideas they had for Beastly Kingdom were amazing and its a shame they were shelved and still havn't been built. Here's hoping that one day they build BK the way it was going to be built.

God bless the "Ignore" button.
I, for one, won't believe a word regarding BK until Walt Himself comes back from the grave and verifies it.
