Nope...there is a Universal Forum.

and...

Yes, I do agree that the "cut-outs" of the superheroes takes away from the land...but, the theming never quits. (Whereas Tomorrowland is losing it's theme on a weekly basis it seems). Toon Lagoon, yes, again, the "cut-outs" but I think this ADDS to the land. What are the "funnies?" They're just 2-dimensional one-liner comics...and that's exactly what you get at Toon Lagoon. That land mocks that...and that's why it works. For instance, the pile of "thought bubbles" laying around. This is probably the only land where cut-outs can be acceptable.

As far as Poseidon is concerned...the original was a much better show.

No, not really.. Not another Universal vs. Disney topic, which is just so, so tired.

Having an annual pass to both, I see both of their strengths and both of their flaws. But my God, until I started visiting these boards, I never realized there was such a thing as Theme Park ignorance and prejudice.

Speaking of Universal, check out this crap that they just added to there website. I like Universal just fine and go fairly often, but this is just about the worst below the belt marketing you could come up with.

Just saw the following USO vs Disney comparison on the Uni website and thought it might be worth commenting on as they apparently also have a new advertising campaign which fairly directly attacks Disney:

:brick:
At the bottom they should put IoA's 2005 Attendance to Magic Kingdom's 2005 Attendance.

Nope - I`ve ridden both versions, and the newer (current) one has alot more FX than the original (which did have a lot of problems with it`s mechanical sharks, let alone anything else) but apart from that it`s an identical layout, theme, boat motion etc.

I WILL get around to a Disney Central "USF 1990 video" soon!

The last time i was at universal the jaws ride wasnt there, king gong was about to open. I really regret not going but its so hard to get between the 2 places when i was too young to rent a car, now that i am old enough i probably still won't go cause we enjoy staying on site and disney makes it too cozy to leave the resort.

While I'm still not sure why this thread is in the "News & Rumors" for DISNEY (not Universal) I will still comment. Jaws is very expensive to operate due to the amount of propane it expells each time a boat runs the course. Universal started loosing some money and being one of the oldest & most expensive attractions to maintain they decided to close it for a while. A friend of mine lost her job with Universal due to this closing. I found out this information back in September. Glad to see it's back up though.

Marvel Superhero Island – I think it’s themed after Marvel comic’s New York and that works to a point. The large “cut outs” of superheroes do nothing to help the theme and are clearly removable incase the Marvel/Universal deal goes sour. In fact with the exception of Spider-Man (one of the best rides ever created) all the rides can be re-themed overnight if the need should arise.

Toon Lagoon/Sunday Funnies – I’m not sure what the other guy was talking about but they just looks cheap, nothing special about it even the rides are tired old “wet” rides from the fair. Now don’t get me wrong I love the Popeye ride but the ride’s characters looked broken-down from day one.

Jurassic Park – That’s an awesome island everything is exactly what you would expect to find in Jurassic Park, nothing wrong with that island at all, well it can get congested from time to time, but besides that, it’s perfect.

Lost Continent – Well themed and nicely laid out. The Poseidon “show” is amazing and shouldn’t be missed. The Dragon queue is spectacular, but they should have put the coaster indoors.

Suess Landing – The theme is constant but not very spectacular. The place always looks dirty; I think it’s because of the light paint. The rides are weak at best, but the Grinch is always a treat at Christmas.

Port of Entry – Similar to Animal Kingdom, but AK is so vastly superior in it’s themeing, I can’t even compare the two, I’m not sure I even get the theme of the entrance.<!-- / message -->

I agree with most of that, also one other thing.

Where is the parks Ideology, it's just a bunch of random islands stuck together, with very little in relation to each other, or in any form/order.

This is one of the reasons IoA has no soul, it does not stand for/represent anything... it just is.

Actually, you can buy express passes from Universal even if you are not a guest at one of the resorts.

I think you can only go on each ride once (via the express lane). If you stay on site you can go an unlimited number of times. This is really a huge perk. I wish Disney could do this, but they obviously have too many on site rooms.

MK is nothing but a bunch of random themes stuck togehter... be smart and pleasant. Those are the themes of a THEME PARK.

i love how universal says that Monsters Inc. is yesterdays fairy tale, while there is no Monsters Inc. ride in Disney world and it came out a few years ago.

Okay, perhaps "themeless" was a bit harsh, I was thinking of the themeing as I was writing the original post, but I really do hate that park. If it had more "imagination/adventure" rides instead of a constant slew of "thrill" coasters, then I would have a much better time. Overall, the original Universal Studios park wins the whole "movie lot studio tour" theme over MGM, hands down. I am not trying to initiate a Disney/Universal war, I am just stating something I believe to be a fact. Universal is simply more exciting with many more movie-themed attractions, where MGM's claim to fame is ONE Disney-like tour ride (The Great Movie Ride), a seriously outdated simulator (Star Tours), a (inmho) poorly-themed indoor roller coaster based on an original 80s hair band (Aerosmith), and a wonderfully themed, but basically over-hyped (again, my opinion) elevator free-fall ride based on a fictional "Twilight ZOne" episode. Let's bulldoze the place and start anew....lol.

Don't mess with the Tower. IMHO Everest was way more over-hyped than this. MGM does need some new life, and a replacement for star tours thought.

If you click the "complete details" link you'll see the following:

"Pass is valid for one (1) entry per accessible attraction at both Universal Studios Florida AND Universal's Islands of Adventure"

Can't we all just get along?

Some people prefer the classics of Disney (Small World, Peter Pan...) more than the adventure rides of Universal (Jaws, Spiderman...) but that's just them... Universal is a park for the teen-30somethings where as Disney is a park for the 'family'... Disney does have more replay value as it is more of an atmosphere park than an amusement park, but c'mon and give Universal some credit... they're trying to battle it out with the king of theme parks... Disney had a 35 year head start on this whole thing (talking about Disneyland vs Universal's birth)... Universal is still young and has changed owners a few times which causes a lot of trouble when you try to get things done... I'll say one thing though, Universal sure does know how to throw one hell of a halloween event :p
