I know what I said previously about not focusing on negatives, but I jsut wanted to give us a reference. Here are two photos of the area; the first is unmarked, the second, with landmarks, just to give reference. it'll help get some ideas going about use of the land :D

Great ideas guys! We're definitely brainstorming more than the others.:D I hope time difference doesn't become annoying, it's mid morning here at the moment and when it's evening with you guys I'm fast asleep.

Anyway, like mewhunter said, forget about location for the time being, lets the think about the actual structure. Are we running with the abstract rock/tree thing? Something that Chester and Hester might have built to attract more tourists to their carnival thing? Oh yeah and one more question, are we going to put a walkthrough or shop inside the weenie or is there just not enough space?

Sorry if this sounds obvious but would the water weenie go on the river?

How about this, a statue or cave that shows the history of dinosaurs until extinction.
(represented by the dinosaur figures carved into the walls)

Also, let's have it tie into the land by adding on the Dino institute name and logo.

The Dino Institute Logo is a good idea, but only if it's notvin Chester and Hester's.

Great ideas! Wedding the two sides could definitely work.

The Dino Institute Logo is a good idea, but only if it's notvin Chester and Hester's.

Or, it could work like this.

As the story follows, Chester and Hester's Dinorama has gotten so much popularity over the years from visitors passing through Dinoland U.S.A. Unfortunately the Dino institute has lolst a considerable amount of guests and financial support to fund the Time Rover project. In desperate need of getting guests attention, The Dino Institute has built a massive structure in Chester and Hester's Dinorama, paying tribute to the age of dinosaurs and making it noticeable enough to attract many more visitors to their area. Chester and Hester decide to spice up the display a bit, and put some of their trademark humour all over it.

The Dino Institute Logo will appear on the design, with a banner saying; "And Chester and Hester", tagged on the side.

We should probably try and stray away from the tree idea as far as possible, maybe focus more on the abstract rock. If this is a cave then we could probably make it walkthrough and include a few shops or something inside.

In reading up on Dino Land, I think we have to keep in mind the theme of the land, which isn't just a land dedicated to dinosaurs, but rather, these two guys who turned a dig site into a tourist trap...

So, I was thinking along those lines... A giant Billboard advertising the attractions in the land, and old fashioned triangle design, where it rotates through several different signs, Dinosaur, The Coaster, and finally, an advertisement for the store in the base where they sell kitschy roadside toys and puzzles and souvenirs.

The second thought would be a giant radio tower made out of dinosaur bones that would feature a radio station broadcast in the area that would play popular songs with the lyrics changed to reflect dinosaurs. In the base of the tower would be a radio studio where you could see an audio animatronic DJ who we could figure out and theme later.

Thoughts?

:) I like it.

Gad, sorry I'm late I forgot that most of us live in different time zones. :dazzle:

Well first off here's to a good competition guys! Let the games begin, or as we say in the world of us dramies, "Break a leg!"

Ok well here's my input on the suggested ideas so far. Forgive me if we have already decided on one.

The weenie needs to fit in with the rest of the land. We don't need something random and bizarre-colored sticking out in the middle of a land that is the quite opposite from it. I'm not dissing the idea that we have now, I'm just saying in general that the weenie should keep up with the look of the rest of the land. Kind of like how the Tower of Terror matches its 1930's/40's Hollywood surroundings and the Matterhorn matches the Bavarian village located at its foot. If we had a big dinosaur arch-thing in the middle of a jungle-like area, it may seem a little bit off. But heck that's just me, I get really picky when making things like this. :D

What I think the land could use is possibly something along the lines of a volcano. But a volcano is so often times connected to dinosaurs, and that may just be pushing it a little too far. I like the Tree of Extinction idea that Kermit suggested but another tree of the same height with pretty much the same features as the one right across the path would be very odd indeed.

Apparently that Brontosaurus skeleton at the entrance to the land (I think her name is "Dino Sue," am I right?) is considered to be a weenie.

http://www.disneyworld-guide.com/Animal Kingdom/animal%20kingdom.jpg

As you can see by the map of Animal Kingdom we don't have all that much space to work with in Dinoland. I don't really want to have anything big and awkward thrown into the middle of the land to block people from seeing the entrance to DINOSAUR. Perhaps getting rid of TriceraTop Spin or Primeval Whirl (That whole area is very old Paradise Pier to me pre-makeover) but then again that area is very close to Expedition Everest in a way. Two big weenies next to each other may look odd. Also if we put the weenie there it would be kind of blocking the area leading towards "Finding Nemo: The Musical."

I don't know I'm kind of stumped here.

In the center of Dinorama would work great, but I don't know if two weenies would work as well. The Nemo area is already meant to bring guests into the land.

oh good...I am glad I misread the bit about the tree. My bad. Brain fuzzies again!:veryconfu

I don't have photo shop right now,(due to recent computer crash) but I would offer my humble drawing/painting skills for this project.
(you can all see my art in t he last two practice projects)

I do think you have brought up a good point, Fractal...in that the 50's roadside attraction kind of trumps the dinos in most of the area.

I am sort of liking the radio tower idea too. Kermitdefrog also had a radio station idea a page back.
But would that consitute an "attraction"?

On either a cave of dinos, or a billboard, or whatever building we decide on...my thought is that we need a big larger than life eye catching ...something.

Giant flying pteradactyls are still on my mind!:lookaroun

Definitely! Hand drawing is far more detailed than photoshop. (btw; your sketches were very good)

Great idea,Jason!

We definately have a good team here.

 Very true. So many creative ideas. Personally, I'm liking the radio tower idea alot.

I'm definately liking the radio idea. It would bring another dimension to the land.

We could do a Dinosaur DJ. We could do a sideways hat and a vest. If we put it in Dinorama,he'd have a brightly colored studio and clothes.

We could also just make the DJ's Chester and Hester. I envision they are really schlocky pun making radio hosts, like the radio station on the Simpsons.

Going off of the desire to integrate The Institute with the rest of the land... The Billboard on top of the station could advertise the institute, have like an obviously serious ad for it, but then it has all sorts of saying and goofy stuff on it that Chester and Hester obviously added on after the fact.

My only problem with the abstract tower idea is that it would really need to be a work of art to attract people, and I don't know that WE have an artist who could do a concept that would make it attractive. Whereas something more concrete, like, but not necessarily the radio/billboard, is easier for the judges to envision and understand the appeal of.

To go a step further, keep the whole "bone tower" idea but instead of a billboard on top, have billboards running down the sides of the tower. Kinda goofy looking as if Chester and Hester designed the entire thing.

On the top we could put a meteorite, positioned slightly downwards as if it is aiming for the ground.

Do you mean a radio tower like this. http://bit.ly/bvg71p We're gonna have to make it big and colourful to compete with all the other garish colours in Dinorama. You could build on the whole Dino Institute thing- it could be where the scientists broadcast to the outside world only Chester and Hester have taken it over, sort of like a pirate radio station. There could be a cartoony pterodactyl circling the top of the tower.

And at the bottom another shop, Chester and Hester's Record Shop?

I can't believe how quick this team is to respond. We're progressing at such a first pace!

 We're moving pretty fast.

Similar to that, maybe. I like the idea of a record shop underneath. Sell some Dino-Singles.

Haha, think of all the dinosaur related pop music parodies we could come up with from this.

Yes yes!
I love you guys!

I for one, think that a dino radio tower is awesome!

...I absolutely adore the idea of it made out of bones...with the meteor and the pteradactyl! And I too envisioned the billboards selling advertising C and H's goofy wares!

Record store idea is genius too! If you want, I can try a sketch later today based on the visuals that charlieD and Fractal have already put up.
