James Cameron outlines 'Avatar' as Disney World attraction

Disney is not stupid enough to open a big large expansion of considerable size and land with 1 ride.

Thanks for being more specific ;) I fully agree.
Well, to be fair, Pixar Place once had Luxo Jr. Not a ride, but an attraction...kinda...sorta...OK, it's pushing it, but still, it once was there. Apparently this lamp is as complicated to fix as the dang Yeti though.

"It's a land within the park but a land is not just a ride. There will be several rides and a number of other attractions. It's really just a place you're gonna wanna go and hang out," the director said, as reported by SlashFilm
I wonder if this allows the possibility of that long rumored speeder bike attraction for the land as well. Several means more than 2. So far, we have speculated of both the simulator and boat ride. With this recent interview, it got me thinking about the 3rd e-ticket rumored to be borrowing the ride system same as Shanghai's tron attraction. I surely hope so!

here is one of the effects artist Walt Conti working with cameron for Avatar/pandora...

Can you say anything else about Avatar Land?

Just that it's going to be a huge park in Orlando and we're going to be building some animatronic characters for it. A lot of the action in the sequels is going to be underwater

great find..this should also go in the specifics thread or even construction progress
thanks

So, that's makes it sound like they are develop AAs that will be underwater (since that is their expertise), right? Makes me very curious how the "boat ride" will be set up. I think we are all kinda picturing something like POTC/IASW/etc where you ride the boat and see various scenes, but if there are underwater AAs how will they be integrated -- does the ride vehicle "submerge" in some way such that this would be an underwater journey? Are these underwater AAs next to the boat and simply bubbling up to the surface?

We obviously don't even know the premise of the ride, let alone the mechanism, but I'm excited to hear that they are getting AAs custom made for it. That indicates to me that they are hopefully going all out to make this high quality.

Disney brining in the experts I see. Sounds pretty exciting.

Would it cost more than 10 bucks to fix or something? Could they pay for it with a Luxo VIP event? For $120/person you get to stand in a taped off area and eat 2 cupcakes with a bottled water at your pre-arranged Luxo viewing time. I suppose there is too much to do in Pixar Place anyway!

Lightning damage from what I heard.

It would be cool if they went with Omnimover boat ride that proceeds to go underwater on a track, a la the water slides at Atlantis (within a tube).

That's what I'm wondering. This new info makes me wonder if we will see some cool underwater AAs on this ride -- and if so, it would seem a waste to have them simply be underwater as we stare down from above the water. Having the ride vehicle "submerge" at some point would be a good twist for the ride.

I know the Shanghai POTC-ish ride is supposed to have some new tech for the boat that allows it to turn and point like an Omnimover can. It seems plausible that the same tech could be used to carry the boat to an "underwater" location where we are surrounded by water and seeing undersea life, conceptually like the Nemo ride at Epcot but hopefully much more impressive.

This would be really cool. They could also maybe do glass bottom boats (not sure how with the tracks, but maybe the track could be more on the side of the boat). It could also be more like jungle cruise type figures that pop out from under water. I would assume something more high tech than JC of course. Maybe a creature that pops out and attacks the boat (insert underwater Yeti joke here). Any way you slice it I'm just happy people associated with the project are still talking about the boat ride.
