Jack Sparrow?

Considering that the all-powerful Johnny Depp "starred" in "Dark Shadows" I am surprised that we haven't seen the Depp-ization of The Haunted Mansion.

shhhhh!!!! watch that kind of talk. we all laugh about movie stars and rides and the next thing you know we are going to be stuck with Eddie Murphy on haunted mansion thanks to that train wreck and with his career since Pluto Nash he may actually play the character himself.

Most def not worth the wait time. If you aren't dead center in the room, it's hard to see all the effects, and if you have young ones, good luck if your in the middle with adults standing in front of them. CM's are placed throughout the room and are kind of hard core about where you stand. I was off to the right a bit, by choice as I had a REALLY tall guy in front of me, and was told to move back over and my view was blocked again. I agree that it seems like a really well done pre show, kind of Aerosmithesque, but when your done instead of getting to ride a really cool coaster, your....well done. Younger ones, or huge fans of the franchise may enjoy this...once...but me, not so much.

I agree with this. I think some re-working of the script would be nice. It felt so much like Dora the Explorer to me that I kept expecting The Map to show up and help us find the treasure or something. The Captain Jack projection effect is really, really nice and I do like how they decorated the room. I would do it if the wait was less than 20 minutes.

I "Liked" this because it made me laugh that you knew enough about Dora the Explorer to think that The Map might show up! LOL

Gotta agree with most people here. I checked it out when I was there because it was new and I like Jack Sparrow. However...waiting in that line the time I was there (it was like so around 9-10pm) was tough. Parents had their kids who were all tired and therefore fidgety and ornery. And since they only let so many in at a time, the line just seemed to last forever. Then to find out it was standing room only was really annoying. So just before the show I was kind of cranky because of the really bad execution of the whole line/audience set up.

I hung around the back because I knew all the kids wanted to be up front and I just wanted to see what it was like. The set design was cool and I really liked the Jack Sparrow projection. Honestly, it was so good I found myself trying to watch real close to even see if it was a real actor or project. Great effects.

And like everyone said, It really is like a Dora the Explorer set up with the flying skull head (props to Jack/Disney making a joke of this in the show) telling us to jump and sing and whatever other interactive thing to do.

Overall, it's cool but I kinda wish it was moved over into Fantasy land with all the other pirate stuff. I know there is another thread for this but yea...to much 'doubling up' on franchises. The placement of the show is really random too. I know they gotta fill in space but...yea...just weird to me.

I probably won't see it again unless is was a no wait walk in type of deal. Certainly not worth waiting in a line like I did. It could have been better...mostly...I wish we could sit down during the show, lol

Quite honestly... we enjoyed it more watching the video of it before our trip than we did actually being there. The first and largest issue is they pack way too many people in. The second and equally as big issue is that the area they squeeze you into has very few spots from which you get a good view. If you are slightly to the right or too far up front your view is destroyed and you miss half of what makes it interesting. To really enjoy it you need to be center, rear in the "theater" like the perspective of the video shared earlier.

Overall the effects are cool. We do projection mapping shows on our house each year so for us it was interesting in that regard but nothing absolutely incredible save one thing... the Jack projection is done extremely well and the shadowing is done perfectly to make it look less like something projected onto a flat surface and more like an actual (albeit oddly colored/lit) person standing on the boat.

It's a good use of the very limited space that's available. Would we rather have another gift shop? No.

The concept is cheesy (kids might enjoy it), but Jack's image quality is wonderful (pretty convincing illusion) and Johnny is hilarious. I've always seen wait times posted at under 20 min. Given that the installations in this building are quite temporary compared to other attractions, who wouldn't want to at least check it out?

Haven't bothered to see this yet.

There are very few things about which I am passionate. Even fewer that I hate.

I hate the map. OMG, I wanted to shoot the TV every time it started singing, "I'm the map, I'm the map, I'm the map, I'm the map, I'm the map, I'm the map..."

Hate it with Heat Misery fury.

Anyone unfamiliar with The Map, give this 30 seconds: http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=gRup3mJCmm4&desktop_uri=/watch?v=gRup3mJCmm4

I saw it right after it opened and only waited 5-10 in line. It's has a lot of detail which is cool but it's not a must do for me.

I checked it out, I thought it was extremely cheesy. This is definitely kiddie oriented. But the effect is amazing, for the first half I thought it was an actor playing Captain Jack. I'd rather do tsm a second time

I thought the effects were neat. It actually took me a while to figure out if I was looking at a CGI hologram thingie or a really great Jack Sparrow actor. It's very itneractive and I was in the attraction with a lot of adults who were sort of blah to the idea of stomping around the room or singing pirate songs. I agree with ChrisFL, who said it seems like a pre-show that goes nowehre. I actually thought it would have been a sweet lead in to a meet & greet with a Jack Sparrow actor. But yeah, nothing too special.

I thought it was an actor the whole time and felt like an idiot later. The effect is really cool. I just wish they would do a re-write.....

Wow, thanks for all the responses! I think I might do this one if there is not much of a wait just to say I did it. If there is a wait, I doubt I'll wait for something like this. (This from someone who waited 2+ hours for EE once- hey, I didn't know about FastPass back then!)
