Pre-Trip J,K, and L's annual Week After Thanksgiving Trip!

Hello humans!

We are getting ready for our annual pilgrimage to WDW in just over three weeks, so I thought it would be a good time to go ahead and start our pre-trip report!

Who: Me (Katie), my husband of 10 years Jason, and our 2-year-old son, Lincoln

When: Sunday, November 26th-Saturday, December 2nd

Where: Animal Kingdom Lodge, Kidani Village

If you've been on the forums for a while, you may know that we travel to Disney (either coast) the week after Thanksgiving just about every year. We feel that it's the perfect week to go - you get an extra-long Thanksgiving break from work, Disney has all of the holiday decorations/trees up, and all of the holiday festivities are in full swing, without all of the insane Christmas Break crowds. I'm not ready to acknowledge that we'll have a kindergartener in three years, and our days of doing Disney while kids are in school are numbered. 😬

Since this will be our last WDW trip before we have to start buying tickets for L, we decided to splurge on the hotel for this trip. We rented DVC points through David's Vacation Rentals, and will be staying in a Savanna-view studio at Kidani Village. AKL was actually not our first choice - we wanted Wilderness Lodge (preferably the Copper Creek villas), but unsurprisingly, both Copper Creek and Boulder Ridge were already booked up when we booked in May. We are looking forward to staying at Kidani Village though, and we know Lincoln will love being able to see animals from our room!

We have four-day base tickets, and plan to take a "rest" (haha) day in the middle of the trip. We are excited to be going back after a year away, and I hope you all enjoy following along!

Ohh. I am very interested in hearing about this inflatable toddler bed situation.

Lil BES is in a toddler bed now too. She recently tolerated a pack-and-play but is definitely too tall for multiple nights.
Funnily enough, J and I were JUST talking about this. Now we’re second-guessing, because we’d have to meet the Baby Quip person for them to pick the stuff up in person on our check-out day, and we have an 8:30 am breakfast reservation that morning. So, I’ll be over-thinking this probably from now until we leave. 😅

Hmmm. Since you’re driving could you just buy a travel toddler bed? It might also be useful for nap times etc with grandparents or other future travel.

Saturday, December 2nd - Check-Out Day 🙃

We'll be up bright and early this morning, so that we can head out for our breakfast reservation. After trying and failing to get a reservation the past three trips, I finally managed so snag a reservation for Topolino's Terrace! Our reservation is at 8:30 am, so we'll probably try to leave Kidani Village around 7:45 just to be safe.

J and I have not dined at Topolino's Terrace since September 2020, so we are excited to go back. At that time, character interactions were still distanced, so the characters would stand a few feet away from your table and you could take selfies with them. I'm excited to have the full experience this time!

After breakfast, we'll be headed home. :( The end of a Disney trip is always bittersweet - we're sad that the fun is over, but we're also ready to be back in our own house, sleeping in our own beds, and back to our normal routine. Since we travel to WDW at the beginning of the holiday season, the post-Disney blues don't normally hit until after Christmas, because we're so busy with Christmas preparations and family obligations. It will be just under a year from the time we leave until the time we're back, so we're hoping to soak up as many memories and as much fun as we can!

Anytime we have a WDW trip booked, we like to buy a $25 or $50 Disney gift card every time we go to Target, so that by the time the trip rolls around, we have a bunch of gift cards saved up that we can use for dining and shopping on our trip. We think of it as being like having a dining plan - if you've already paid for it in advance, then it feels like it's free while you're on the trip. #disneygirlmath

Then, a couple weeks before we leave, I will sit down and look at the menus of the places where we plan to eat, and try to estimate how much we're going to spend on food, as well as how much cash we need to bring for tips. I was doing this the other day, and realized that we had inadvertently booked quite a few family-style/buffet restaurants, where kids under 3 are free. 😂 We are reeealllyy taking advantage of that "free under 3" while we still can!

Tuesday, November 28th - Magic Kingdom Day

We went to MK on a MVMCP day last year, and it worked out beautifully for us - between Genie+ and low standby wait times, we were able to get so much done, even with it being a shorter park day. We're going on a party day again this year, and hoping it works out well for us.
I bought my son and his partner tickets for the party for that day just yesterday!
If you see them say hi! 🤣

I can't lie - I'm a Bitter Betty  While I'm happy that my dog is here for one more Thanksgiving, I can't help but be depressed because I should be going to Disney tomorrow instead of being here listening to the horrible tenants next door acting the fool. They started on Wednesday night so I'm expecting my entire Thanksgiving weekend to be hell. Hopefully we can find a house soon, get away from here, and finally enjoy the holidays again next year.

This is just one of those years that if things can go wrong they will. I've accepted it but not happily LOL. I'll be experiencing all the fun thru your trip reports though! I had to wake up early this morning and make dining reservations for our rescheduled week now in January for my birthday. I couldn't even get half of the reservations I wanted and nothing that I was hoping for on my actual birthday lol. Even Toleda had no availability when we needed it. I'm going to have to rearrange all of my plans though. And on top of that, my dog isn't doing well today and I've been watching him closely. Even my husband doesn't think Pip is going to make it to Christmas

So sorry to hear that Pip is not doing very well.
