So...... I got 3 little mailings from the bank that DS has his account in (my name is also on the account). I almost threw them out because I thought they were ads. It seems he ordered most of his books online before checking into his balance on his account, and ended up being .....ready for this.... $600+ overdrawn......:fork::fork::fork:

:dazzle: Not good.

Will he be charged for the overdraft?

Well about $300 of that was fees.....

he ordered a bunch of his books from Barnes & Noble, but since he ordered used books (to save money), they were sold by different vendors, so there was a $35 fee for each vendor. I called and they did waive one of the fees, but it still but him $580+ in the hole.
I really let him have it last night. He's so reckless - totally opposite of his sister, not that I try to compare them.

Basic budgeting courses should be mandatory in high school.
Check books, credit cards, bill paying...
They're clueless.

He's had plenty of "lessons" at home about finances too. And the thing is, it's so easy now to just go online and check your balance. If there's only $200 in your account, you can't order $300 worth of books - plain and simple. If he had checked and mentioned to us that he needed another hundred or so to cover his books, we would have gladly done it, rather than go through this.

Men!!!!!!

It should be simple.
But it's also way too simple to just "click and buy" and deal (or not deal) with the consequences later.

Oh, and then the bank offered to give him a credit card that would cover his overages if he ever did that again. My reply to that was that the last thing that child needs is a credit card to run up, and that I'm sure that this will never happen again.

Well, loves, I need to shower and get going with my day.....I probably won't be around at all, as I need to disconnect the old computer and hook up the new, so my internet connection will be non-existant for a while. With any luck, I'll be back tonight. Have a great day, everyone!

College students are easy prey for credit card companies.
There should be laws...

Finally getting caught up...

January 4-10 2010.
Plus dining plan. :slurp:

Boardwalk Villas. :)

Yay!!
Goodness, everyone's making ressies today!

OMG we will probably be there for at least some of that time. I call a meet up! :sohappy:

*wave* Back on American soil! Brrrrr! Quite the shock after 11 days of mid-80's! Just left the airport and are on our way to pick up Husker. :-)
Will post trip highlight and pick tomorrow or Sunday. 2 funny things that you all will appreciate, though; last night we were watching tv in our room and a cell phone commercial came on (in Spanish, of course) and they were showing Bunny's Gummi Bear video on one of the phones. Lol! The song is just as catchy in Spanish. That and we watched an entire episode of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse this morning in Spanish. Lol! It was quite enertaining and a funny way to end the trip.

More later! Have a great night! :-D

Hee! How funny. I've seen the MMC in Spanish before ... weird. "Presente!" they all say.

Glad you're home. Did you go to Xcaret? I'm dying to know...

Anyways, since nobody's here, I'll just post a general report on what's going on.

Yesterday Anya didn't go down for her nap until 2:30! Which is way late, but better than the day before, when she had NO nap. None. Zip. Zilch.

But she woke up at 6 this morning instead of 7, for some reason, and went down without much of a fuss. Thank goodness. Now I can get my coupons clipped and maybe some packing done.

Marc's been working all morning and will probably spend the whole day in front of his laptop. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that all this work now means they'll leave him alone while we're away.
