It's time... for Def Leppard

A classic fan boy move, post opinion as fact, when caught out change the angle of discussion to deflect from the inaccuracy.

If you are using your recent analogy surely then Led Zepplin would be in the running given 2 million applied for tickets?

However the main thing is Id rather have an attraction than a 5th rate cover act, no matter how influencial the beatles were, Id wager more folk watch Off Kilter, a RunRig / Big Country inspired act.

Actually, the reason I changed the subject was because I couldn't understand what the heck you were trying to say with your horrible phrasing. The fact still stands that the Beatles are more infulencial, and therefore deserve that spot. Though I've wiki'd Off Kilter, and I must thank you for the reference. I've found a new band to listen to.

But that doesn't mean people would want to watch them more than the Beatles cover.

That was inconsiderate of me, I hadn't realised you had learning deficiencies, I'm sorry.

I wish people would realise that Wikipedia is not the only reference site. The figures I quoted are for album sales and from Beatles sites, and from record industry sites. I know which Id rather believe.

I have already stated why Def Leppard would never feature at the UK, theyre too American and were never that popular in the UK. But why do the Beatles tribute act deserve the slot? Surely something showcasing Britain's ongoing and diverse contribution to music is more valid.

Most 60s music is over rated due to nostalgia and the use of the phrase "influential", yes it influenced people to make decent music.

Well whichever stats are right, the Beatles still come out ahead. Regarding their slot at the UK pavilion, the Beatles are simply the most famous act to ever come from Britain. You name one act more famous than them. And regarding the idea of something current that's contributing... really? I'm assuming you know a lot about music, so you should know that 99% of popular music nowadays is absolute garbage. If it's not garbage, it's not popular. And if you're saying that the Beatles music was not decent... well I guess that's a matter of opinion, but popular opinion is surely against you.

At the risk of being smacked on the legs again for thread drifting, the trouble with todays "pop" music is that it tends to be of the reality TV type, a major problem in the UK is the exposure and play lists of the BBC and the very poor quality of local radio.

I dont listen to "pop" but I also dislike the Beatles because they were/are the basis of the bland pop tune. Their later material barely gets exposure and still snt really my thing the Stones are probably as influential but havent made a decent tune since Some Girls.

You keep saying popular opinion, but is that reflected by guests in the park watching bands? Perhaps Im doing them a disservice as the UK pavilion is not exactly a good setting and Off Kilter and the Moroccan acts pick up passers buy.

I preferred Wings to the Beatles, now Im just happy he dosent record much.
