Trip Report It's Not 'Whoop-de-do", it's "Whoop-de WHOOO"! October 2013 Disneymoon

Well Disney fans and friends, it's time for the Trip Report! The laundry is almost caught up, grocery shopping is done, so I wanted to get started on this while the details are still fresh and before I have to go back to the real world (work) tomorrow :(

You can find the Pre-Trip Report HERE.

When: October 19th-26th
Where: Wilderness Lodge (though the rest of the family stayed at POP Century)
Who: Me (Amber)- Disney Nut Extraordinaire, I think this is the 10th trip I've taken to the World in 12 years, turned 35 during the trip, Newlywed to my love
DH (Dave)- Hadn't been to Disney since the early/mid 80s

This was our much anticipated Disneymoon, thankfully all paid for by wedding money! We decided that we'd wait until October for the trip (we got married August 31) for the weather, crowds, my birthday, and F&W at Epcot.

More Who: Joining us on this trip were
Mom (Bonnie)- been to Disney twice before in 2008 and 2011. Currently battling lung cancer, and so the family decided to make a vacation out of it. My sister secured her an ECV Rental for the week as she gets extremely tired, but other than that is doing well health-wise.
Dad (Bob)- been to Disney only once before in 2011. He enjoyed himself but probably wouldn't have returned if not for Mom's diagnosis.
Brother (Zac, age 10)- his 3rd trip to the World-he is my Disney buddy!!
Aunt (Sal)- Dad's sister, been to Disney as a teenager/20 something back in the 70s. Aunt Sal is such a great help with the Nephews!!

Sister 1 (Bobbie)- been to Disney once in HS and then again in 2004 when she and I took my grandmother. We have SUCH great memories of that trip, and I was looking forward to being with Bobbie again at Disney!
Brother-in-Law 1 (Ryan)- been to Disney as a child, so had some memories but all in all was like a big kid there. Loved watching him relive.
Nephew 1 (Bennett, age 5)- First Trip to Disney!!

Sister 2 (Chrissy)- been to Disney in 2008 and again in 2011. Chrissy and Bobbie have been taking on the work of taking care of Mom as she goes through her treatment. They do it gladly, but I was glad they were getting a vacation. I feel bad as I now live many states away and can't help, so I'm glad they could be part of our Disneymoon trip.
Brother-in-Law 2 (Duane)- been to Disney in 2008 and 2011. Duane is a party in a can-always willing to take a trip wherever. Always ready for fun!
Nephew 2 (Devin, age 3)- only other trip to Disney was when he was 6 months in 2011, so I was eager to see him actually grasp some of the things happening
Nephew 3 (Corbin, age 15 months)-First Trip to Disney!!

Cousin (Jamie)- She and I had a great trip to Disney in 2005 just the two of us, and then she went on our trip in 2008 as well.
Cousin-in-Law (Brad)- went to Disney with Jamie (and us) in 2008
Baby Cousin (Aubrey, age 1 year)- First Trip to Disney!

(The colors denote sort of 'traveling groups')

Whew!! We tended to divide our time, both Dave and I away from everyone, and also each individual family away from the others, and met back up at other times... I'll get into this later, but some of their Magic Bands weren't working the greatest, it was a bit more crowded toward the beginning of the week, and hotter too-so splitting up was often the best answer depending on what different people had planned or wanted to do. DH and I had different dining plans than did the rest of the group too. Not to mention that the Cousins were only there from Friday until Wednesday; and Parents and Sister 1 and Family had to leave Friday. It was all crazy at times for sure, but oh so fun. DH and I did spend quite a bit of time with Mom's group-I don't get to see her much! And Zac likes to hang around with me.

On with the show!! Day 0 coming up!!

Congrats!!!! Love the report so far! Great pics! Love to see more! We had our hon, eymoon to DLP, only its not allowed to take pictures inside the park fully dressed :( Cant wait to visit WDW again some day in the future!

Oh, by 'finery' I didn't mean our wedding clothes, sorry for any confusion! I just meant that for us, we were dressed up (me a skirt and top, DH, okay well DH did wear what he wore in our wedding: brown linen pants and a button down short-sleeved white shirt.) But honeymooning at a Disney park is the way to go!! THanks for reading!
Did the resort room have coffee makers?
Yep!!

Our meal that night (still on Sat. 10/19) was at Narcoossee's. I had never eaten here before, actually, had never even seen the place even though I've visited the GF before. we had to use the ground map to find it! We wanted to do one fancier, 2 table service credit meal for our Honeymoon Dinner, and DH really likes both steak and seafood, so it seemed a natural.

We were still very early, but due to the heat and our tiredness, we decided to just sit outside the restaurant on a bench until our reservation time of 7:15. I didn't want to chance checking in, and thus getting in earlier than that, because the 7:15 seemed like it would line up perfectly with being able to see Wishes while there. So we sat, DH called his coworker to check in on the kitties, I caught up with my family via text, we checked out the menu, etc. A very nice CM named Alex noticed us sitting there for awhile and asked if we were waiting on a later ADR. I told him yes, and he very kindly offered us some water (did I mention it was hot out??). We took him up on that offer (though I find Florida water to have a very funny taste, DH agrees). So we sat and just enjoyed each other's company and the sights and sounds around us. This is where I also noticed that many of the people going in and out of Narcoossee's used the dress code as more actual guidelines instead of a rule :p

My man checking out the menu

What two better sights can a girl ask for to look at? My hubby and Magic Kingdom? :D

The man in the couple seated next to us offered to take our picture together...I love how much that happens at Disney! (tangent: DH just asked me last night if that was sort of an unspoken etiquette requirement of Disney guests, lol)

We were on the Disney Dining Plan, but remember my snafu I mentioned last night? Yeah for some reason, even though the waitress explained it to us, I thought appetizers were included. Oopsy! So when we got the bill at the end of the night it was for more than expected. No worries, it was our Honeymoon dinner after all!

So my app was the heirloom tomato salad- Yummy!!

and DH got the calamari

For my meal, I got the shrimp and lobster spinach pasta alfredo dish (don't remember its exact name but it was delish)

DH got the surf and turf (lobster and strip steak), which he liked but said it could have been done a little more for his taste

Gosh I don't remember the names of the desserts either (I suppose I could look at the menu, and I'll be glad to if anyone wants to know specifically) but I got the warm chocolate mousse with a caramel sauce-very good as well!

DH got the almond cheesecake, and as much as I'm a chocaholic, I had a taste or two of his (we were very good about sharing!!) and I wished I would have chosen it. DELICIOUS.

And we got such cute congratulations!

We had almost perfect timing, too! Only because of the aforementioned billing confusion (totally my fault) did we not score the best place on the verandah, but we did get to go out and enjoy both Wishes and the Water Pageant on our very first night, after a wonderful dinner with my new hubby. Can you say happy gal??

Sunday, October 20th- Disney's Hollywood Studios
We were up around 6:45/7 for our first full day. Another hot day on tap according to forecasts.

Morning photo shoot at the resort

We headed to Hollywood Studios via bus. We did make the discovery that sometimes our buses stopped at Grand Floridian, so planned accordingly when possible for the rest of the week in that regard. We didn't make opening but weren't too much later. When we were in line to get in, I was texting back and forth with Sister 1, who said to meet her right inside the gates, so we did just that...they got there about 10/15 minutes after us. After hugging hello my sister, brother in law, and nephew Bennett, my sister said that she had promised that Bennett could look at the Star Wars stuff in the store right there on Hollywood Blvd. (They had gone to dinner at Hollywood & Vine, and then Fantasmic! the previous night) So that's where we headed, and we purchased a toy gun that he wanted. After sending it to their resort, we headed down Sunset Blvd to check out the waits for ToT and RnRC...it was still quite busy this day too.

Some photos while waiting for Bobbie's family:

Bennett in all his (at that time) Star Wars glory!! He would be in further glory (as would his dad) later at the Tattooine shop, of course.

Bobbie has a thing for trying on hats

Look how happy

This is where I came to find out that apparently my cousin Jamie HAD screwed my FP+ times up, because even though I know I had a FP+ set up for RnRC at that time (and then a later one for ToT and then Star Tours), I now had ToT later, Star Tours and Disney Junior. Yeah I did not fastpass that :p We didn't know until DH and I walked up to the FP+ return queue and were told that we didn't have a valid FP+ for this attraction. Super. The wait said 30 minutes I believe, but it didn't look it to me, so Ryan, DH and I hopped on. Ryan and DH had never ridden it before. Just as suspected, it wasn't 30 minutes, and in fact, once we got out of the holding room with the Aerosmith bit, we walked right up to the loading area, no wait in the alley. I was worried that they wouldn't get the full theme of the ride, but they didn't seem to mind. I did warn them to put their hands around the guard near their ears to prevent their heads from wobbling side to side like mine does :p I sat next to DH, and Ryan was behind us...I could hear Ryan exclaiming and laughing and yelling several times-he loved it. DH liked it too, though he said he got a bit queasy too...you have to remember he hasn't been on a roller coaster in like 12 years.

A Disney snail joined us in line for RnRC

I always love this marble door, however I would hate to hear them rolling all day!

Bennett and his First Visit button

After we rode, Jamie and her husband and little girl Aubrey had caught up to Bobbie and Bennett who were waiting outside the ride for us. We texted Mom and found out that they were in the park, back by Toy Story, so we headed that way.

Coming up tomorrow....a whole lot of nothing for the next oh, 2 1/2 hours at DHS...I'll explain why then.

Congrats, Disney honeymoons are great! I love the pictures of WL. It's one of the resorts my wife and I have talked about staying at sometime and after seeing those pictures we definitely need to stay there. It's right up our alley.

Thanks!! Yeah, I just couldn't imagine honeymooning anywhere else :) I really really recommend it-it is a great resort for a couple.

OK, we last left off with DH and me, Sister 1's family, and Cousin's family heading toward Toy Story Mania to meet up with my parents and Sister 2's family. So we get down there, and after hugging and greeting, Mom tells me that my brother Zac and Aunt Sal were in line for Toy Story. Yeah....the wait was 120 minutes.

120 minutes. Sheesh!! My sister managed their magic bands, but she hadn't been able to make FP+ plans for them. I felt horrible that they felt they needed to get in that line. So we waited. And waited. DH and I had ADRs at Sci-Fi Dine in Theater. Some might think we were crazy for hanging around a waiting too, but that's what we did. I knew my brother would love the ride, and I knew that he would be sad that he missed meeting up with me until after our meal, and I didn't want to leave my parents, so we waited.

We met the toy army guys, several times. This is Bennett, he and I were walking ahead of the group and I told him to go meet the Army guy, and get a picture with him, so he did. When his mom Bobbie caught up, she was amazed because he was scared to meet any characters yesterday when they came to DHS for their meal at Hollywood & Vine...did I mention they did that? Oops. Anyway:

This cracked me up...DH and I went to sit on the bench on the opposite side of the street from TSM and an Army guy came over and patted the seat next to me, and I said "sure, sit down" and he did. So my sister (who was on the other side of the street) came over to take the picture. She said "Army guy, say CHEESE" and this is what we got!

For some reason, this is all of the boys' favorite snack from Disney World:

Possibly my favorite picture of the whole trip, my Mama and me :D

Bobbie made Bennett practice his letters while he was waiting:

He got a frozen lemonade when he was done:

At this point it was beyond time that they should have been off the ride (Mom said they went in at 10 and it was now 12:20), and Aunt Sal didn't have her phone on (grrr), so she went over to ask if there was any sort of way to see if they could find out where they were on the ride, when just then, they exited.

SO, yes. TWO AND A HALF HOURS LATER (Aunt Sal said it broke down a few times) I was reunited with my Disney buddy brother!

That was the last time I really let them on their own for rides :p

DH and my ADR at SciFi was rolling around, so some of us headed that way, while others went off to try to ride ToT and RnRC again. Mom was wicked on her ECV!! Not to worry, she didn't run into any other guests, just her family!!

While DH and I had our meal, Mom, Dad, Aunt Sal, and Zac's plans were to head to the ABC Commissary, since it was close by, and eat. This would mean that only Mom and Dad would eat because Zac's meds suppress his appetite, but he had no choice to go with them.

Eating here was a first for me!

I was really impressed with the atmosphere, I loved it!! The food was mostly so-so, which wasn't unexpected-I had warned DH ahead of time that that could be the case.
I had the Picnic Burger, while DH got the St. Louis style ribs.

Dessert, however!! Mmm and mmm. We both got the Turtle Cheesecake and both were very happy with it.

So, after a nice meal and break from the heat (did I mention it was still hot that day??), we met up with Zac, Mom, Dad, and Aunt Sal. Zac was begging to try Star Tours, and I was eager to ride for my first time after the update.

My two favorite guys

Blurry as all get-out, but I love his expression. He was so excited to ride this!

End result, amazing sequences, especially the ending where the tip of the plane or whatever breaks through our windshield. Some of the the 3D was a little too intense for Zac, but he self-solves by just slipping his 3D glasses up off of his eyes for a few minutes. He wanted to do it again, but we decided that Mom needed a rest, and that we would head back for a swim. Technically it's not allowed, but shhhh, we took Zac back to our resort with us to swim, just to give Mom an actual peaceful rest. So after stopping in the Indiana Jones shop, where I bought Zac one of these:

we headed out of the park. Some pictures on the way:

(We got this on photopass too)

We met up with Sister 1's family in a shop on the way out, and walked to the POP bus stop (we had to get Zac's bathing suit). It was SOOOO very hot standing there at the bus stop, so Ryan found some shade in the bus stop next to us.

Annnnd this is the result of me trying to get everyone's attention for a group picture:

So then we began the process of heading to MK, then catching the boat to WL.

Zac made me take pictures everytime we saw these birds

DH went up to nap, while Zac and I hit the pool. He LOVED the waterslide, and I even went on it twice :) After a relaxing mid-day break, we were all set to head back to DHS for Fantasmic!

Zac requested The Great Movie Ride, which worked for me because I wanted DH to see that, since it's a classic. We got the gangster side.

Then, we did Star Tours again, which I think is quickly becoming a rival with Buzz for Zac's favorite ride.

Then it was off to Fantasmic! We got there pretty late, I think we only got there like 2 minutes before show time, we got to sit wherever we wanted in the very left most seating area. This was the first opportunity that we really got to see the Glow with the Show ears going, it was pretty cool I must say.

After the show, Zac was hungry. DHS had EMH that night, so we were glad to see that food was still available...DH and I hadn't been such good chaperones, we hadn't gotten Zac anything to eat!! (in our defense, because of his meds, he does not have an appetite whatsoever during the day, so he eats a ton in the early morning, and then before bed). He ate half of a mac & cheese hotdog and a little dessert. We then took the bus from there to POP, to drop Zac off. Mom was looking rested, sitting in bed in her pj's, so I was glad for that. We didn't stay very long, and then caught the bus from POP to MK for our return trip. We were the only people standing in line, of course, and the bus driver double checked "you're going to the MK now??". We explained that we needed to get there so we could get the boat to WL, as we knew that there was a Halloween Party that night at MK. So we were the only people on the bus with the driver, and she was very interesting in our Honeymooning at Disney, as she was planning a wedding as well. Before long, we were back at the WL and in bed.

Thus ends our first full day, Day 1!

Monday, October 21st-Magic Kingdom

Sunrise from the balcony

We didn't quite make the opening show, but we got to MK shortly after opening, and saw the Main Street show

The look I caught on this woman's face makes me laugh

Mom texted to say that they were heading into the park, so Dave and I hung out by the Hub to wait for them...took a few pics while we waited.

We took a photo for for a family and they returned the favor

Cause ducks are just more magical at Disney

When they arrived (Mom, Dad, Aunt Sal and Zac) we headed straight for Splash Mountain, a first for Zac. It has been closed his previous two trips in January. Dad and Mom sat it out on the bridge.

More as soon as I upload more pictures to photobucket....stay tuned! Hope you are enjoying!

Where were we? Ah yes, me, DH, Aunt Sal and Zac were on Splash, Mom and Dad waiting on the bridge. Zac was a bit...fearful? More like he just plugs his ears from time to time because some noise can be a little too intense for him.

I warned Zac that this was the big one (he kept asking through the ride)...

We got wetter than I remembered, but it felt wonderful! Yep, you guessed it, still hot out!

Mom watching from the bridge (I just love her hat! She's lost her hair and wears a wig, but we insisted on a hat for her to keep her shaded from the sun-I think she looks wonderful!) I told Mom Zac's verdict...he didn't want to ride it again. Except later in the week he did want to, of course.

So after we collected the parents, and Zac said no to BTMRR (for now), we headed to his next request: Haunted Mansion. After that I was interested to see the Tangled area, so we walked that way next. This is one of my recent favorite Disney movies, and DH and I even had our first dance at our wedding to "I See the Light". We (well DH) also has a running joke that when I'm the least bit displeased with him, that I threaten him, or even hit him with a frying pan!

Really, really well done area-so nicely themed! I could see relaxing in this area for a few, for sure! Not that that's what we did today, but in case.

Had to take this pic

At this point, Mom, Dad, Aunt Sal, and Zac needed to leave to meet Sister 1s family at our resort, WL, for a lunch at Whispering Canyon Cafe. I know we rode Space Mountain somewhere in our couple time. Then I think DH and I headed off to lunch at Pecos Bill. I was so shocked to see the line now, and how they direct you to first, an ordering line at the registers/counters, then to a seat! I didn't know if they did that all the time now, or just when it is busy?? (Anyone know?)

Anyway, I got a burger because I just love adding all the fixin's :D I think DH got a burger too, but as he's not into onions and mushrooms, he was very meh about it. As we sat and ate (in the room called The Widowmaker-nice for a Honeymooning couple, huh? :p), we looked on the MDE app for our FP+ times (thankfully they were all fine for this day, and the rest of the trip). Our first one was coming up soon, Splash again!!

There was a Make-a-Wish family loading when we got near the front of the line, and the child was so very excited, my eyes got a bit of pixie dust in them! Later, we would get stopped momentarily next to a waterfall, which got us very wet, but we realized that they were probably unloading. It felt wonderful, again!

I tried to get a picture of this the first time we rode it in the morning, but the queue was moving so fast!!

Our next FP+s were for Meet and Greets, so we decided to head for Fantasyland even though they weren't for awhile. I decided that I wanted to walk through the castle to get there, so we did.

We wandered:

We couldn't quite figure out what to do next until our Rapunzel M&G, so we stood in line for the next show of Philharmagic (which I didn't think happened! but there we were). Finally when it was about 5 minutes until our M&G, we left the line and it was a good thing we did, the FP+ return time for Rapunzel had a line. We stood behind a very entertaining dad, mom, and 2 little girls. The dad kept saying "could it BE any hotter??" and things like that-he sort of reminded me of Kevin James. Anyway it helped pass the time till we got in the room with Rapunzel and her visiting princess, Snow White. WHO, btw, I was informed that DH has a thing for, for the first time right there in line!!

Us in line

First we met Snow White, who asked if we visited the Wishing Well because of our "Happily Ever After" buttons.

I have no clue what I was doing in this picture, but here is DH in deep discussions about frying pans. We think Rapunzel misunderstood and thought we meant that I use frying pans to protect DH, and that he needs to practice his swing so he could protect me, or something.

Anyway, next she had us all swing an imaginary frying pan. I was wrong and thought she wanted us to pose like we were holding a frying pan, whoopsy!

After this, because we had a 6:25 ADR at Be Our Guest (whoop!!), DH wanted to take a break, and headed back to the resort. I stayed at MK, to meet back up with my family who would be done shortly, and in fact, I found out later that they saw each other going & coming.

So I met up with Mom, Dad, Zac, Aunt Sal, Bobbie, Ryan and Bennett. We decided to do Monster's Inc Laugh Floor, as Bobbie and family had never done it before.

3 of 5 siblings in silly queue photos:

Lovely, Zac.

Everyone having a great time getting ready for the show. I heard Bobbie belly-laugh no less than 7 or 8 times, she really enjoyed it.

Next up was Buzz, of course!

I have this picture over the last 2 trips of him too, he's gotten so big now!! Maybe later I can dig up the others to compare.

Up next was a sentimental favorite of my sister and me- Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse. We loved this movie as children, and often dreamed of living in such a place. Zac always likes climbing it, and we figured Bennett would too.

The water wasn't working on this day

I don't know why Zac is making this face??

After that (and after a brief misting in the tiki gods), we headed to Pirates of the Caribbean, which had I think a 25 minute wait, but we did it anyway.
Bennett really liked it, and afterwards Aunt Ammers (that's what he calls me) bought him a sword.

After this, Mom, Dad, Zac (much to his displeasure), Aunt Sal, Bennett, Bobbie and Ryan headed back to their resort for some swimming, plus Bobbie agreed to babysit Cousin Jamie's little girl so that Jamie and Brad could visit a park just the two of them. So I walked them to the front of the park, and as it was pretty close to time where DH should be coming back, I enjoyed myself taking pictures on Main Street. It's something I've always wanted to do, just people watch and take pictures, soaking in all of the Main Street goodness. I know I had a smile on my face the whole time.

I also did some browsing in the shops...fell in love with this purse, but couldn't justify it in the least

Oh yes Casey's Corner...one of your hot dogs will STILL be mine...later in the trip, I promise!

Thanks for my favorite place, Uncle Walt!
