Magic Kingdom has lost just as much in it's own way too:

This post doesn't bring any new arguments (or in some cases, new pics) to the table, but I thought a collection of visuals, all put together in one post, might illustrate the point better.

I know some feel that as long as Magic Kingdom has a few key elements, like the Castle and Jungle Cruise, that it will always feel the same, but to myself and others the park has lost some things to time that were just as important in their own small way.

Are my eyes playing tricks on me, or does it appear in many of these images as if children can be orderly & entertained without the need for bubble machines?? What devilry is this?

Tried to find some other pics, like the interior of The King's Gallery, but couldn't. Old MK shop pics are probably the rarest to find.

Do you remember what year these were taken? I need to look through my box of picture I think I have a bunch from 1977. It's great to look at what used to be some how I think change is not always for the better

Those sky buckets/gondolas uglied up the place and distracted and were found in most 6 flaggish style park. I was happy to see those leave and even more at Disneyland(going through the Matterhorn never worked for me). And the picture of Tomorrow land's entry looks bland and uninspiring. The newer Tomorrow Land architecture is light years better, even though it is easily ready for another change.

Others on that chain of pictures are sorely missed.

I sometimes go to a site that highlights all the extinct attractions and shows that have been taken away from us. I agree that change is good and you should move forward but its too bad that its always at the expense of some wonderful entertaining things that guests enjoyed. Sure, new technology pushes aside old and there were some valid reasons others were done away with but Its not like WDW didnt have the room to expand and retain more of our favorites. What a shame.

This was back in the 70s and 80s when most American children would churn butter and shine shoes for a living. It was a big deal back then to go to Florida, the "new world", and see ice cream for the first time. ;)

The first post is between the late 70s and early 90s (SpectroMagic didn't debut until 1991, Delta Dreamflight in 1989). I tried to collect images that showed the park as it was in the video A Day at the Magic Kingdom, which is where the screenshot of the rocks on Tom Sawyer Island are from. The pic of Snow White's load area is the copy from Tokyo, as it's still there today.

Thank you SO MUCH for posting all these pictures. It really puts everything in perspective.

Change isn't inherently bad, it's how said change affects the park.

EC's losses were far more detrimental to the park's mission, lowered the capacity, and lowered the amount of attractions. It was a victim of the 90s and it's still going through rehabilitation. MK's many loses have been balanced by many gains, in my opinion, like everything added in the first 5 years, then Thunder Mountain, Splash Mountain, New Fantasyland (even with its flaws), the removal of the Skyway, and some others. The Welcome Show is one of the biggest actual losses, in my opinion.

Should the park be better? Certainly. But a lot of it is nostalgia.

That guy's shirt in the third picture is a couple sizes too small.
