"it's a small world"

I also seem to remember the hippo like that in the past but if you look back to that video from China the real thing makes me feel a lot better despite the fact that all the little things should be updated regularly. I would really like to see the make over like was done in Disneyland with the film characters being represented within their lands.

Just be glad it didn't look like this.

Wow...just wow.
Wholesale 'borrowing' scenes...and particular doll characters to boot.
Too bad it is lacking in any type of 'charm' as far as the actual doll figures go....yeesh...scary stuff there!

I see even they decided to sneak in Disney Character into their version ....

Just wow....i am agog...

Back in the 80s, one of the Can-Can dolls broke. It stayed broken for many years and I looked for it during every visit. She stopped kicking and just shuddered.

Husband's first trip to Disney was DL in 1999. He elbowed me during the ride and kept asking "Where is she? Which one?" "Across the country and fixed 10 years ago." He was disappointed.

The Hippo has always been creepy.

The blue Hippo originally winked as your boat drifted by.
If you saw him just posed like this, then the wink animation was unfortunately broken. He is supposed to be winking in a constant rotation.

He only drinks when he is 'off duty'....!

:)
I have seen him look like that the past several trips as well (and this is over a course of years.) But actually, I do see movement with that eye... It isn't just "posed" that way. But the movement isn't enough to make him look any less drunk. Haha. At this point Id almost be sad if they fixed him just because I find it so funny. Who knew Disney was into alcohol education? ;)

Errr.

I took this in May... not sure he's supposed to look drunk ?

As much as I love the history of this ride and the details in it... I remembered half way through the ride why I don't like it. The dolls freak me out.

He still looks like this!

We rode yesterday as well. I noticed a few things not working as they should but nowhere near as bad as what the OP says. All i noticed was Mr Hippo above, and a couple of the Can Can (sp) girls weren't kicking fully.

Another observation: Splash Mountain was looking pretty epic, apart from one of the Brer Foxs mouths wasn't moving, and the Brer Rabbit before the big drop had a broken mouth too. Other than that, it looks like it's holding up well after the refurb.

I too was going to say the hippo was supposed to wink. One thing I always notice is the Polynesian hula girls. Some seem like they need a shot of caffeine while others are shaking at mach 5.

My daughter and I have always had a certain doll we would love to take home with us. Actually she would like to bring home ALL of the hula girls. I chose the first girl doll on a swing on the left as you enter the final scene. She reminds of Lucille Ball in her Cuban dress. (I Love Lucy--Be A Pal episode) On one trip a few years ago it was missing but the swing was still moving back and forth. My daughter was so upset because she thought someone else got that doll, lol. By the end of the trip it was back in place and I had to explain to her it was brought back so everyone could enjoy it, :). You know you've ridden IASW a lot if you can tell which dolls are missing.

Just think about it, the Hippo's eye is moving. When something breaks it typically means that the movement stops. I think this is supposed to blink.

Ok, this has me in STITCHES right now... great, now people at the office think I've lost it entirely

It shudders... or flutters... or.. twitches? But its not very noticeable. The other eye is too open, or too bright to pull off the 'winking at you' if that's what its supposed to be.

Bahahaha... seriously cracking up. Thanks yall.

Anyone know the reason, or significance, of the large sun that's half covered with a hanging sheet?
The Sun is wearing a face veil, which is customary for women in some Middle Eastern countries.

You will notice each large room in the attraction represents a different part of the world, usually by continent, and each has it's own perfectly themed Sun.

My fave Sun? Mexican/South American one and the South Seas one. Very cool designs done for those two.
