It was the little things....

I guess one of the main things I am trying to convey and look back on IS the nostalgia of WDW.

Both the WOL pavilion and the Imagination playground are now GONE... Not replaced by something better, just gone.
I am just hoping for a time when they get creative forces back in and create fun "small" things for children and adults to both enjoy.

I miss the little statuettes that were waiting in your room when you checked into a Disney hotel. That was such a cool perk...does anyone else remember these? I think we got a different dwarf each time?

I also miss Mickey in his Astronaut (?) costume that he wore when wandering Future World. So...futuristic! :)

Which part of the original post did you view as "complaining"? How is nostalgia considered complaining and living a negative life? Lack of complacency should not be mistaken as negativity, yet it continually is when ANYBODY posts something that highlights Disneys failure to maintain their very own standards.

I say the same thing every time I read about Disney eliminating something magical and replacing it with nothing. Enjoy the fake profit reports of MM+ because thats what you get as a replacement for the magic. Oh yeah, and you can pay them more money to drink and eat at Epcot after hours now too. Truly unique!

I miss when Main Street USA wasnt a Wal Mart.

You must be visiting a totally different park than I am. Main Street is nothing like a Wal Mart. And posts that are gross over-exaggerations don't help to get a point across. They only make the poster sound a little un-hinged.

I think the intention was that Main Street is just a hundred yards of mall on both sides at this point with no real diversions to be had anymore. Wal-Mart may have been a euphamism but I understand the intent. The thin veil over moichandising does get thinner with every new addition/itteration.

I fully expect this thread to spiral into a name calling fanboy versus nay-sayer volley of insults so I will go get the popcorn ready to watch from the cheap seats.

blah blah blah (go you tube Alex Lifeson's part of RUSH's Hall of Fame induction speech).

I'm not necessarily disagreeing with some of what's said, it's the constant whining and "the good 'ol days" crap that is lame.....there is a difference. You (lumping u in with the rest of the bunch) think that the one's of us who don't complain are satisfied with everything? That's where you are wrong, ignorant and misguided. Many of us are....we just don't , whine, complain all day everyday about it. Many (most) are going to be smart enough to see past these "extra" offerings as what they are...money grabs. But again, when WE go, we enjoy ourselves for what we do get to experience and not pine for the "good 'ol days" and let it ruin the existing trip. So there (see the end of the credit's in Airplane!).

"Oh yeah".....I don't drink so....:p lol and "lighten up Francis"

Characters didn't have a "spot" They would walk around and You could run up to them and Now its not the same

I never got to experience this, but it sounds fun. It also sounds like you'd have a bunch of people you don't know in your photos and don't get that moment of one-on-one time with the character like you do at the M&G.

I think the pros of the M&G outweigh the roaming. But like I said, I never experienced it the old way.

Your fallacy is anecdotal. You can shift attention to hypothetical emotions all you want (, whine, complain all day) but you still fall short of making a valid point that they ever actually occur. If your best response is a strawman argument (which it always is with Disney defenders) then there is no need to continue any attempt at a rational debate. You (and the rest of your bunch) choose to answer criticism with criticism to avoid making a sound argument, most likely because you do not have one or you can only attempt to elicit an emotional response in place of a valid argument.

I had an old 70's photo of being surprised by a roaming character (Prince John, think it was), and it was fun, but the downside was that you didn't know where to FIND the characters you wanted to see.
Also, theme-parking and Disney fandom wasn't what it is today, and it was possible for characters to walk around without being mobbed...Nowadays, they have to clear a path for Anna & Elsa just to get from backstage to their meet spots, when they were at Norway and DL.

Apart from having characters in "obvious" places (Alice by the teacups, Snow White by the DL well), think they didn't do dedicated meet spots until "Mickey's Birthdayland", and then they started to see the advantage of crowd control.

Yeah I remember at Epcot the characters used to ride in on a double decker bus and get off at the main gateway between future
World and world showcase.
They would just roam around and sign autograph books and pose for pictures.

Don't they still do that? (During off seasons?)
Thought it was the only place to still find Megara, nowadays.

I haven't seen them do it in forever!
But that doesn't mean that they don't,
Maybe I'm just missing it.
If so, then that is awesome!

I for one think WDW is better now than it was when our family started going in 1996. There are a few things I miss but overall I like the changes they have made.

I wish the quality and the crowd size was back at 1996 levels even at today's prices. Going to WDW is now more a survival exercise, with every attraction and meal needing to be planned months in advance, more than a vacation. We, like any others, have had to lower our expectations since all the changes to the guest experience have been implemented.
