It Is Official: Disney Magazine No More

I just tried to take the "We're ceasing publication" sleeve off of my COLLECTOR'S ISSUE, and it ripped the edge of my magazine! Just another thing to p*** me off about this decision!!!

This issue seems to be a bit un-edited. There are several references to "upcoming issues". Makes me think this issue was completed and pressed before the decision to cancel was made - making it very convenient to add to sleeve to the outside cover. That would explain the lack of explanation by the Editor.

They should give all of you a refund instead of trying to pawn off two substandard magazines on you. How low.....shakes head

I agree. You are not only upset about not getting the magazine you ordered, but you have to go through the effort of calling to get the refund. I would rather it be an option listed on the card with the alternate subscriptions.

First, this is the last issue and they ruined it by attaching that ridiculous notice of cessation of publication! :fork:
Second, the magazine gave some great things and was a great feel to get a quarterly dose of Disney in your hands to read (even if it was old news)
Third, this is just part of the long line of disatrous corporate decisions to p*** off your most loyal customers! The Disney Club went first, then the Disney Store, now this! What's next? Making the Disney Chanel the Universal Studios Channel? Having Wal-Mart take over all retail operations in the theme parks?

That wouldn't fit in with the goal of making money (and thus not refunding it)... you know, keeping the marketing/strategic planners happy.

I CANNOT agree more.

I just got the last issue. And, I am sorry, but all of you who say that this magazine is nothing more than you get on the internet are just plain wrong. The facts may be available, but the presentation is just not equaled, but ESPECIALLY the archival pictures that littered this issue.

I will miss all the archival stuff the most.

And did anyone else notice that the magazine staff remained true to this an anniversary of DISNEYLAND, not a contrived "global celebration" of all "Disney destinations," or worse yet, "50 years of Disney parks." Blech! The anniversary that most normal people would understand is Disneyland's 50th anniversary. To spread it all around the world is a tad confusing, especially for those who remember Disney World's 25th just a few years ago!

That is another, more subtle, thing that I will miss: the staff writers that, while helpful to Disney marketing overall, were NOT slave to everything the marketing department put out.

Sigh.

Be careful. We bought out subscription through some kids selling magazine subscriptions for their school. When we called Disney magazine to request a refund, they told us that in order to get a refund, we had to call the company that we placed the order with (the company that does business with school). Not to mention the person on the other end of the telephone was extrememly rude and basically didn't care that we wanted our money back.

So if you bought the magazine the way we did, don't even waste your time calling Disney, they'll give you the cold shoulder.

I'm extremely upset they are pulling the magazine. It was so exciting when you'd get something from Disney in the mail!! It's like getting a piece of Disney delivered right to your door. How could they be losing money at the prices they charge? Not to mention the other two choices they give you?!?!? Right, my wife and I are 26 yrs old with no kids. Like we are going to want either of the two replacement options. Anyone else know of any good Disney magazines I can subscribe too instead?

It is sad that the magazine is no longer. It is funny to hear people say that the magazines were all about WDW. I stopped subscribing years ago because it seemed that every magaizine I got was all about Disney Land. I always felt chances were quite slim of me going to southern California anytime soon so I did not renew. I just recently re-subscribed to the magazine and just got my first/last issue and sure enough it is all about Disney Land. I am still happy to have the last issue anyway. I know everyone seems to want the refund, and know that it will never replace the Disney Magazine, but does anyone know if the Family Fun magaizine is nice or not? My daughter is only 10 months old so the other option will serve no purpose?

RedBaron, I don't think either magazine would be something you'd be interested in with only a 10 month-old-child. I already get Family Fun magazine, (and really like it) but I have a 6-year-old and a soon-to-be 3-year-old, so the stuff in it is perfect for our family - lots of crafts, family entertainment ideas, recipes, etc. My 6-year-old even likes to read it every month, but if you don't have kids in the 4-12 age group, this really isn't an appropriate magazine choice. My Disney Magazine subscription was running out with the Fall '05 issue anyway, so I just called and had the difference applied to my Family Fun subscription. I would HIGHLY recommend that you just call and ask for a refund, neither of the magazine options are even REMOTELY similar to Disney Magazine (as if you didn't already know that :) ).

That is what I figured. I had hoped that maybe there would be some interesthing articles for me and maybe things to look forward to with my daughter. I really subscribed to the Disney Magazine for myself to get my Disney fix since I have not been there for a while. I guess I will have to get my fix here.

I called and asked for a refund. The rep on the other line huffed and puffed. When she did that, i said, EXCUSE ME? She said, Nothing.... She then asked if I would be interested in the other magazines instead of the refund. I asked her if she is serious or just giving the company line.. i told her neither magazine compares to Disney Magazine, and honestly, i have no use for the other two. She said she understood and told me the refund will be received in 4 to 6 weeks. She sounded miserable plus I was on hold waiting for a rep for 10 minutes so I assume they were receiving high call volume.

Don't know about you'll (go ahead joke but it's an OK thang) but it looks like they're punishing us for Go.com, and Disney Studios Paris

what no refund avalible????

I too bought from a kid going door to door and when I called they made it sound like that there was no refund except thought the company(aka the school). I pointed out that yes the original subsciption was bought that way but disney kept calling me and sending me cards making it sound that my subsciption was almost up so i renewed. before I knew it I was subscibe untill 2010. so they, disney was responceable. the person hung up on me (or I lost cell contact , but I was in a good area and had full signel).

The Lady I got was actually very nice about the whole thing. Almost a Disney like attitude, which apparently doesnt sound like most of her co-workers!!! It isnt easy dealing with all of us Die hard fans who are gonna miss a great publication, but she was a real pro obviously!!! Belle

Well, although my mom and I are very upset at the decision of Disney to cease publication of the Disney Magazine (we read it cover to cover religiously), we are glad, though, that they made their last issue a special one.

I was very pleased in the issue, especially all the Disneyland stuff and the great articles from all of the "older" Disney celebrities, like Haley Mills, etc. It is a shame that we Disney fans won't get the opportunity to read this great magazine 4 times a year anymore, because I for one enjoyed every single page that magazine had between its covers.

Here's a little secret... I was even IN an issue. A few years back, (probably in 2002), they were asking for letters and pictures from pin collectors, asking why we liked it so much, how many pins we had, our first trading experience, etc. My mom wanted me to send a letter and a picture, and I thought that I would never make it in. A week later, I received a letter in the mail from an editor of the magazine requesting that they put my letter and picture in the next issue. Let's just say I was a very happy 13 year old and very proud to be a Disney fanatic with her face on a page of her favorite magazine. :D
