Hey Patrick, do you think you can give us a few more pics of Saratoga Springs? We're staying there in July and we're not entirely sure of what to expect. Think it has a chance of getting a lot more construction done in the next couple of months? I hope so becuase we're taking first-timers and they're expecting a lot.

Honestly, I don't know how anybody can be impressed with the resort. Actually...not even resort. Right now, it's the size of a motel. July is next month, and we're talking about Disney here, so very little work will be done. Especially if you are taking first timers, they will get the wrong impression of WDW.

Andre - Yes, it does have potential. The fact that you can walk to DTD, watch the PI fireworks, and rent bikes make it a fun place to stay. The architecture is amazing (actually, close to every building is the same, but windows and doors are changed to make it look entirely different. *thanks Eyes and Ears*).
The part that is built now feels, to me atleast, it made me uncomfortable. I understand the horse theme and all, but they way over-did it. It came off as boring...extremely boring. With the pale colors on the buildings and all, it reminded me of a retirement place, minus bingo nights.

Another thing I didn't like was the place had an overall theme of proper and tidy and everything...yet the pool has techno and R&B music blazing over the speakers.

One nice touch that I did like though was the framed pictures of the horses in the Disney movies.

First of all: great update once again ... hope you did well on your finals and can enjoy a lot of WDW this summer! School does have its advantages - how I would love to have the long summer break again (instead it is working till late August, when hopefully I can pass the last part of the finals of my studies). But anyway, I get off-topic, so back to what I originally wanted to say:

Saratoga Springs: it is just ridiculous that they opened this "resort" already, especially keeping in mind that they want to attract new DVC-members to that resort. With the show rooms of DVC on Broadwalk supposed to cloose soon, are they going to walk all the potential buyers through the construction site that Saratoga Springs still is??

While I haven't seen the resort myself except for a short glimpse from far away last November during my last WDW-visit I must say: I wonder why they went with that design / look. Even considering the new photos it looks to me a bit like the Broadwalk area minus the fun and the distinct atmosphere. As if they took a more or less standard resort and plugged it into place. There is no real connection to the surrounding area stylewise, so I really hope that they are able to do a lot with gardening etc. once the thing is finished.

About Stitch: I would expect the pre-show area to be the last thing to finish, as it should be one of the main fairways for equipment and workers to get into the main show room, so work taking place there might be a good sign.

And finally: keep those updates coming :animwink: they are my lifeline to WDW while sitting here in Germany.

Yours
Dirk

To tell you teh truth I can think of 4 other ways to get into the main show room right off the top of my head...most areas guest don't even notice.

It was really cool to hear Stitch's voice coming from behind the wall. At first I thought I was either just hearing something else or it was my imagination. But when I heard it agian, I knew it was coming from the attraction. What a great way to get hyped!

Are the Stitch noises coming from inside the main chambers or are they recordings that they just put by the wall? Either way, the anticipation is getting tense.

Once you hear them, you know it's Stitch. I walked past that wall dozens of times, and I have only heard Stitch once. It's very loud once you hear it, but it seems to be turned off most of the time.

It almost sounds like it is coming from a speaker near the top of the TTA, or the old AE intercom system.

The funny thing about Saratoga Springs is that my apartment complex has recently been painted in basically the same "colour block" fashion. Before, all the buildings were yellow. Now the buildings are either yellow, light blue or light green, but with weird "colour blocking" in the stairwells... the blue & green buildings have yellow and the yellow buildings have white. It looks really stupid for an apartment complex. I feel like I'm living on Gingerbread Lane or Candyland or something.

I actually liked Saratoga Springs. there's not much there so far, but I liked what I saw. It's just basically a more "freed up" version of the Disney Institute. That said:

I do NOT like Disney's recent thing about merging the food court, grochery and merchandise areas into one big mess -- it's incredibly tacky, and it doesn't work in favor of the somewhat compromised theme of Saratoga Springs.

I think the history of that whole area is fascinating. It's clear that Disney has never been able to get something that "works" in there. I think Saratoga Springs will work once it's done. For the record, according to the guidemap much of the old, old Disney Village (surrounding the lake) will be left intact. I stayed in one of those buildings in 1999 and loved it.

It is wierd that they opened it so soon. there are a lot of construction shells all around, with no real effort to hide them. FYI: by July, only two more buildings will be ready to go.

And the Stitch speakers are attatched to the very top of the wall, facing upwards, from behind. Ride the TTA and look for them.

PS - I could swear I heard some Stitch jabber coming from one of the show rooms last weekend at work. ;)
