Is Yacht Club worth the $$$?

Hello,
Opinions please! Is Yacht Club really worth the $325+ per night? We have very close friends who would like my husband and I to join them on their trip in July and they are staying at YC. We have stayed at POR and WL the last two years and really loved those! I can't imagine the $100+ extra per night being worth it when those were so great. We really don't want to stay somewhere else because we won't be able to hang out at the pool together. Should we go or just stay home? Any thoughts or suggestions? :veryconfu

Hello wdwshelby!

I stayed at Yacht Club for 10 days about 3 years ago. My overall impression was that I was staying in a nice country club or other high-rated type resort, but not necessarily Disney. Ultimately, any Disney resort offers its own charms, but I felt somehow removed from Disney-proper staying there even though it was a very nice resort. Technically you are quite close to Epcot and the Studios, but the transportation (or walk) was not, in my opinion, any more advantageous than say taking two monorails from the Poly or Contemporary. Stormalong Bay, Yacht Club's pool, is very very nice. It has a mini-lazy river and a white sand bottom - as pools go it may be the best Disney has to offer. Beaches & Cream has awesome cheeseburgers and ice cream - again, perhaps the best on property. And the Yachtsman Steakhouse is definitely a nice restaurant. I didn't find the Boardwalk area of much interest - especially with world-class parks so close by. I have stayed at Wilderness Lodge many times, and my bet is you will not be as impressed as you likely were with WL's amazing, immersive theming. I can't quantify the value of sharing time with your friends, but I can tell you I would rather spend a bit less and go to WL or a bit more and stay at the Poly - probably won't be a repeat visitor to YC. Nice place - just wouldn't say it's magical. And as I recall, it seemed like the place was a labyrinth of endless hallways - I walked more to get from the lobby to my room than I probably did around World Showcase!

Hope that helps...

Steve

This is a silly question to ask on a disney fan site especially when you know the answer already. The yacht club is one of the few resorts I have not stayed at. However, I am quite familar with the Beach club right next door and they are similar. You may want to consider staying there as well because the two resorts share the same pool. It also has a less stuffy feeling than the YC, which is a common complaint about that resort. As far as theming, I think the WL does beat them. That aside, I believe the rooms are larger at both YC and BC. There is also the Boardwalk which can be very nice if you enjoy that sort of thing. The best part about that area is that it is literally a five, maybe ten minute walk to Epcot. I hope that helps.

YC is nice. But, as has been stated, in some ways it just comes across as that, a nice hotel. Like in any other place. If you comparing to WL, you'll want to go with WL>Poly was mentioned and to me, that's a no-brainer. The rooms, the grounds, the quiet, reserved atmosphere, monorail-attached, great places to eat - what more could you want?

I could see my parents staying at YC (although we put them up at WL last time and they had a blast).

Bottom line - if you're going so you can be immersed in the "Disney experience" even at your hotel, pick someplace other than YC. If it's just a place to lay your head at night, POR. If you feel you have to keep up appearances or have to stay with the other couple, YC. But don't say you weren't warned.:animwink:

I've only stayed at YC once, but it was very nice. Personally, I prefer the Beach Club. Have you thought about staying at the BC while your friends stay at the YC? They're right next to each other and share the same pool(Stormalong Bay is DEFINITELY worth the money).

Thanks!

Thanks for all of the replies, especially Steve-I am honored I brought you out of lurkdom! :animwink:
Our friends have a toddler so we figured it would be difficult for us to be at different resorts due to naps and bed times. We have the money but it is just difficult justifying the extra cost when we enjoyed the others so much. We do plan on spending more time at the pool this trip and my husband's favorite park is EPCOT so maybe it does make sense to try it out. I think I will miss the theming of WL as many of you have said, but maybe the location and pool will make up for it!
Question: How late is SAB open?

Hey wdwshelby!

I have heard people, including myself, say Yacht Club wasn't their favorite, though it is quite nice. I have never heard anyone say they regretted a trip to WDW because they stayed there! You will love the pool. You will become a Beaches & Cream addict like everyone else who has ever been! You will love hearing, and possibly seeing, Illuminations fireworks from your balcony at night. You will love being there with your friends (it's the people we make memories with!) Your kids will certainly love it (it's the people we make memories with! - I think I just said that...) You will love feeling like you're in Epcot's backyard.

You will probably still favor Wilderness Lodge. But you will still make memories, discover new magic and have a blast exploring the Yacht Club!

I'm afraid I don't know when the pool closes - I'm sure a quick call to the resort would do it!

Never stayed there, but ate there. Cape May is awesome. I know it would stink, but you can stay at diff resorts and then visit their pool with them.

I have always wanted to stay at the BW or BC due to being so close to Epcot/DHS and I love the Boardwalk.

If you are uncomfy, then don't feel pressured by your friends or anyone else to stay there. You could always do a switchy and stay at YC 1/2 of the time and somewhere else the other 1/2? Keep in mind that if you choose CBR, I believe the pool there is closed. If you have the money and want to give it a whirl, then go for it!:)

The nicest thing about staying at the Yacht Club is that you get to look down upon the "value resorters" as was mentioned in another thread.:ROFLOL:

It's great, our favorite. Five vacations to Yacht, one on the way.

Time is money. Eliminating some bus rides is great--and the place is just so nice and convenient.

I am one of the extremely small few that did not care for anything at YC except the location. I didn't like all the sand at SAB so spent my time at the quiet pool instead. I like the walk to EPCOT, but was very disappointed in the boat service to MGM. Just my thoughts.

We stayed at the Yacht Club last April and absolutely loved it! We still felt immersed in Disney magic. We had a great room with a view of the Boardwalk. I loved sitting out on the balcony at night watching Illuminations and all the goings on at the Boardwalk. Stormalong Bay is amazing! My boys loved going down to the gift shop each evening when we came back from the parks to trade pins with the CMs there. Our first day, the CM's in the gift shop traded with them, so they made this their nightly ritual

We're staying at the BCV this October. Luckily I went through someone we deal with when we stay at a DVC so we didn't pay the "Disney" price. But I wondered the same thing about the price of staying there. Guess we'll find out in a few months.

Not having to catch a bus to epcot, DHS or MK is worth the extra money.

My parents stayed at the YC concierge (which is awsome) while we stayed at our BWV resort. It was nice to walk or take the ferry to DHS or EPCOT. We also walked through epcot to catch the monorails to MK (we had a infant with stroller). All that makes it real nice to just push a stroller anywhere you want to go.
