Is this what we have to look forward to from Tom Staggs?

The jury is still out, but so far it seems the Disney Parks are in worse shape since he took over than before he got there (if that's possible).

Everything good (rehabs, FLE, etc.) were already greenlit before he came on board. So far, everything that's been announced since he took control has been incredibly underwhelming to just plain awful.

Not only that, but Staggs team can't even get the Disney Parks Blog to not crash the moment a few dozen fans log on to watch the video stream that they had hyped all week.

Total epic failure for that press event this morning out of New York. They really need to circle the wagons and figure out how to never allow that to happen again, both from a technical and a production standpoint. And please, no more C List celebrity hosts telling crotch jokes. Please.

But Staggs seems like a nice guy. I believe him more than Jay Rasulo. Rasulo seemed completey uninterested in the products (Disney Parks) that he was shilling and representing. Staggs at least acts like he enjoys his job.

Wow, a bit reactionary. I'm waiting to see the actual changes to the FLE.

And the new castle effects are far beyond the stitch stage and whatever new scheme is intended for the BAH short of a complete removal.

I think it would be wise to wait until he has actually had a chance to make some decisions and then they go through the pipeline.

I'm careful not to second guess Iger's decisions due to his track record with personnel.

I disagree. Rehabs most likely would've happend anyway no matter was at the top. From what we're hearing, Staggs is better than Rasulo, who had no problem keeping the Cindy/Aurora meet&greet in lieu of Staggs' changes, including the new ride. Staggs is about numbers as much as Rasulo is, but is willing to spend money to make money, as compared to Rasulo who wasn't. Regardless, it's too early to say if Staggs turns out to be great, but for what it's worth, Staggs is rumored to have spent more time at Disneyland in his first six months on the job than Rasulo spent in six years.

This. Well said.

These news were brought to us by the marketing department. While Tom must have approved it at some point, I'm not blaming this mess on him. It's really just a marketing campaign, one that changes roughly every 12-18 months.

Like JT very well said, let's see what he has decided to do with the FLE. The word is that we'll be happy with it.

The problem with the recent execs is that they are just that, execs. They could be working for almost any large corporation. They don't have the passion and presence that something like Disney needs.

Apple is a perfect example of how a real leader can make such a huge difference. The world listens when Steve Jobs talks. Love him or hate him, he has incredible passion for the product he makes and it transfers onto the consumer. Walt Disney clearly had this, and to an extent, Eisner did. The recent crop of Iger, Pressler, Rasulo and Staggs are corporate execs that are doing a job.

I'll never forget the dressing down that Iger and Staggs got from Roy Disney at the savedisney shareholder meeting. Roy knew that Disney was more than a 'brand', yet to the execs, thats how they see Disney.

As to how Staggs will do, I'm sure he'll be OK. But I wouldn't expect anything incredible. He'll be moved along at some point, and another will step in.

All of Disney's computer systems need major performance stress testing, as none of them can handle a proper load.

He seems like a cool guy if he really did push for the FLE change and hopefully this campaign was not his idea.

Few dozen? At the beginning of the stream over 2000 people were watching, by the end it was in the 8000-9000 range.

And they hyped it all last week? Odd because DPB didn't mention it until yesterday, and the only "hype" came from fans under some delusion it was going to be a major announcement.

If you're going to complain don't distort the facts.

Precisely.

And, the blog and it's ability to handle the mass traffic it received is a wee bit below Mr. Staggs pay grade......

This thread doesn't just deal with the new campaign. As a matter of a fact, the new campaign wasn't even mentioned.

It has to do with decisions made over the last six months (FLE possibly being downgraded with more "circus", BPB being retired for a cheaper alternative, no news yet on anything new to AK or DHS, nothing yet to rival Potter, nothing new to Downtown Disney, a new "paid" experience at AK that seems to bring you no more closer to the animals than a regular zoo, and yes, now images being displayed on the castle).

And yeah, I'm completely aware that this thread is knee-jerk – but I was looking forward to hearing others views on the direction of the parks recently. I'm glad so many people have faith, it gives me hope for what could be ahead.

I'm looking forward to what Staggs has to bring. I just hope these past few months aren't a preview of things to come.

You've chosen to take the most pessimistic view of every single project announced.

I'm not going to argue with you about how I think you are mistaken, there are plenty of threads around here with the information already in them but I will say if you are going to look at everything half empty, then of course you aren't going to be happy with anything.

"Everything that's been announced"

No, perhaps the events of yesterday weren't directly mentioned, but the implication is obvious......
