i don't know...
most birds stay away from scarecrows, which never move, and wooden owls.
Actually, not always. My Love's work had to take their fake owl down because the birds sat on it and pooped on it so much it became a horrible eyesore! *laughs*

That's a great example. :sohappy: It's far better to encourage owls to live near or on your property. There is nothing like a real owl or a hawk to keep the "nasty" birds away!

There's a fake owl above the monorail entrance at the north end of the Contemporary. I thought it was real for a while, until I noticed it was ALWAYS in the same place.... :lookaroun

When the Work lights go on inside Space Mountian, A bird noise starts to keep birds from going in via the TTA tunnel. This noise was playing when Space had to close due to a bird inside the ride (and yes I'm sure it was a recording, not the actual bird)

That's the problem. Birds will get accustomed to seeing the Owl and then ignore it. One of the most effective bird/seagull deterants is to use audio mixed with visuals. For example: At many of the regional landfills, seagulls are a very serious problem. So, to combat this, the Game Department allows the landfill to place a stuffed seagull in the death throws position, combined with the distress call and wahla...no more seagulls, no more of any birds for that matter. They all seem to realize that something there is very bad.

I used to mess with my kid and tell him everything alive at the parks was an AA.

See those butterflies? Disney engineered.

See the birds? All AA's.

See the pretty Norway CM? Another finely crafted disney masterpiece.  :D

Oh geeeeeeeeeeeez the birds!!!! *anguish*

Of course I realize that we've all gotta share the planet with animals, but MAN were the birds ever irritating a few years back (and they scared the crap out of my little sister, haha  ) We've noticed that they have (seemingly) gotten less aggressive and less numerous in the past few years, but that may just be that we've gone at "off" times of the year.

What would really keep the birds away or at least keep them in a tight area is to play a recording for the birds to hear that says, "Moronic people feeding French Fries to birds in Adventureland". Then you would see all the birds flying all over the place in front of Pecos Bills Cafe. Oh wait, that idea must be in use already....

I am doing a paper on WDW, and in a WDW trivia book, I read the following...

A recording of a bird in distress is played (quietly) in Future World at Epcot, to keep other birds out of FW.

If this is still used, then WHY ISN'T THERE 5,000 of these recordings at MK? I have noticed that during bird season, the MK seems to be hit harder than any other park...?

Maybe this has to do with the doves they used to release at the end of Beauty and the Beast since they would fly out to EPCOT after the show. Maybe they didn't want tem too far into the park...but they don't seem to work from what I've seen!
