Is there any inexpensive way to get to USO from WDW?

My fiancee and I are going to WDW and staying at Pop Century...and Magical Express was too good to pass up. We'd like to spend a day at Universal though, and would like to do so without having to rent a car. Anyone have any ideas?

We prebooked some Mears vouchers with Virgin which weren't too expensive, you just called the day before you wanted to go and then an hour before you wanted picking back up. I think maybe these were about $7 one way but I really can't remember..

However......
You can get the Lynx bus from the Transportation & Ticket Centre to take you to I Drive (no more than $1.50) and then get an I Trolley to Universal I believe.
We took the Lynx bus to Seaworld (we asked a guy at the TTC how to get there) and saw that we could have then made it to Universal on an I Trolley.

The only thing with that is you would have to get to the TTC, then I Drive, then Universal.

Maybe calling Mears directly might be the best bet, as Virgin probably charged us commission, try giving them a ring, see how much......

You're looking at about a $30 ride (each way) from WDW to UO in a taxi... more if the freeway is backed up.

I do not recommend Mears to anyone, as they are too unreliable too often with their punctuality (ie- I've never seen them pick anyone up on time)

When i stayed at the world centre they were on time EVERY DAY of my stay - punctual, polite, agreed the vans they use arent exactly the best but they did the job...... My mears shuttle was included with the price i paid for the holiday so i didnt have to worry!:sohappy:

I totally agree. Mears is horrible! They have made me late so many times for my flights that I have been in tears running through the airport. We were at the destination we were supposed to be for them to pick us up and each time we have used them, they were late. I have had my money refunded for the last time by them because I will never use nor recommend them.

Just a second opinion, I've used mears 12 times to get back and forth to and from MCO, with reservations made in advance, and I've never once had a problem with them being late. Just my personal experience. Lynx and the I-drive trolley could be a good bet if you're looking to save some money, but be advised depending on your route, it could take a little over an hour to an hour and a half.

we always use mears from the airport to disney and from disney to seaworld and Kennedy space centre and they have always been right on time with no troubles. We really like them, and yes the magival express is mears cause when we called mears for our trip back to the airport the magical express driver came to load our bags and said that the magical express is actually mears. We are planning on going to universal this time as well I called Mears and they send several shuttles a day from the pop I guess it all depends on what you mean by inexpensive?...Hope this helped

I used mears the last time I went 2 years ago for the day plus HHN and it worked out ok..... Renting a car I would say is your best option, but Mears would be the 2nd best. The pick up from the hotel is most of the time one of the large buses and then the return could either be a small minivan or the large bus. When we were picked up it was one of the minivans and they had to pick someone up off prop which took a few extra minutes, but it did help avoid the traffic on I-4 and got us there safe and sound. The return is the biggest problem, it was running late due to the fact they had so many returns they had to call out a few extra buses. I would not say they are the best but unless you drive yourself I would go with them.

alrighty... I guess Mears is cleaning up their act. From my many years in the hotel industry in Orlando, I remember having to regularly call mears 20-30 minutes after they were supposed to pick someone up to find out they had just left.

But whatever... I've been proven wrong :)

me again i was curious so i went through my stack of vacation planing papers to find out what mears had quoted me and of course i could not find it so I just called them again. I was quoted for $30.00 roundtrip for 2 people , thats 2 adults without kids. Now keep in mind i quoted her for the month of november because thats when we are going I am not sure if there prices change often or at all.hope you have a fun trip.

yeh but i think it would of been included anywhere i think as i booked with thomas cook. What i did notice was the city cabs :lookaroun and the marriott wanting myself and mrs cmatt to use them and not wanting to book a yellow cab  soon sorted that out with persistant nagging

Only slip up i had was with the downtown disney pickup - which was entirely my fault for not listening :drevil: :hammer: the contract is wrong also  , unless the transfers is part of the package THEN you have to pay as normal at the conceirge desk.

No, no. Trust me. You are not wrong. I agree with you. It must be my luck, though, since everyone else says they are ok. It has happened to me multiple times, so I guess I am the only one. :hammer:

Also another one (alec i believe - who we had pick us up about 70% of the time from disney, who took time in telling us about the celebration town and other interesting facts about i drive :)

Ha! Really? Our drivers have been so bad I think one of the drivers was drunk or just seemed like it. Trusting them to get me to the airport on time and it not happening was a feelng I did not like...especially when I had no control over how it went.
