Is the pin trading craze fading?

There were printing free pin coupons on the bottom of parking passes at the MK yesterday(I have an AP so none for me) I'm not sure what pins were free and I know I'd rather have my free AP parking over a free pin any day...so was was this an act of kindness or an act of desperation to keep pins going? My husband and stepson have about 2k invested in pins(to keep not trade) and they really look forward to collecting the LE ones....I hate for them to lose that souvenir option.

I know pin trading has been going on for well over 10 years and it probably waxes and wanes but i doubt it will go away. Disney makes enough cool and neat pins to keep it going. My wife and i just collect them for collectors sake... not to trade

Many people (believe it or not) do not know what pin trading is all about. It's merely a promotion to get moee guests interested in pin trading since it's a big money-maker for Disney. It also helps with guest-cast interaction which is very important as well. If you collect pins, you know that you can't buy just one...

My family loves the pin trading experience and I would hate to see it fade. If anything Disney may reduce the amount of locations, since there are sooooo many, and continue the cast member / guest interaction going. My little girls have only been trading for about 2 years but they look forward to it every time we are able to go to the World!

Oh I know....very addicting...I lost interest back in 2000/2001(built up from traded clearance bin LE Donald pins(89cents) from the Disney store and handed off my collection to DH and he just went nuts from there...he was spending a couple hundred on pins every trip but backed off after meeting a trader at DTD that was about to lose his house because of pin trading:veryconfu...now DH only buys Villian themed LEs. I just see less and less of the lanyards now and was concerned that the pins were going away.

Not old, just vintage.
I sure as heck hope not!!! I have a ton of pins i've invested in and I'd like to keep it going thankyouverymuch. I trade a lot of my pins, mostly with CM's and random people who come up to me, but not at official 'meets' or aything. I buy lots of pins whenever I can so if the pin trading fades away ill be devastated. lol. My bank account sure won't be too upset though!!

Loving it! Go ahead, sell me your collection! For us its a small, affordable, piece of Disney art and, the fact that we own pins from extinct rides, opening days, LE's, we love it all.

I know when I go, I always let me son get a pin each day. I actually think its an affordable souvenier option; around $10 a day vs spending $20 on a toy that will be played with for about a week and then wind up at the bottom of the toy box.

He usually choses a pin that coincides with the theme of the park we are at that day. We've actually never gotten into trading though. We always get pins we want to keep!

I do hope they continue with the pins and the pin trading. Its fun, and it is affordable.

My DS carry-on contains mostly pins!

Actually so does mine.......

We all love pin collecting and trading. Trading with CM is a great way for my kids to interact (my one is very shy) and it always adds to the magic. The only bad part is I end up carrying all the lanyards by the end of the day..........ouch, my poor neck and shoulders.........

I was just at the store and they still had some of the free Energizer pins w/batteries....had to get a few more!

Remember, collect what you love.....

PS Less than 24 hrs till we go!!!

My daughter, who is 6 years old, got into it last year and loves getting new pins.... She bought a starter set and trades those pins... But when she buys her own pins or we buy her a pin, she keeps those pins in her bag so she doesn't trade them....

I do some trading, but I trade pins I've gotten over the years that either are dups or something I really don't want. There are so many pins out there that I pretty much only collect the ones I really want... it's hard for me to justify spending 8 bucks on a new pin and then trading it off....

I buy pins of mostly attractions because they remind me of past trips to Disney. Since I don't get to Disney that often I buy them on ebay...only ones i really want though lol. We keep them all on a cork-board so every time we pass, we see our collection!:D

I buy and collect mainly attraction pins as well but every once in a while I will buy a few that I don't really care about just for the sole purpose of trading. Most of mine are on a cork board too!

I love my pins, but I only buy ones that I like. In the beginning, I was a bit pin crazy and buying tons, but then I had to stop myself and now only buy no more than 5 pins per trip. I especially have a hard time at xmas since it is my favorite holiday, I love and want all the pins.

I did a lot of pin collecting up until about 2 years ago, when I realized how much I had spent on pins!! I nearly had to go on a 12-step program. Now it's a once-in-a-while type of thing for me (especially if a pin comes out for a certain favorite character of mine:fork: ).

I've been disappointed in the pin selection on my last couple of visits to both WDW and Disneyland. I don't care for the character based pins usually and there are more of those available than anything. I like the pins that incorporate actual logos, symbols, or fixtures from the parks or resorts without adding in characters for more kid appeal. Some of my favorite pins are the MK Fantasyland Trash Can pin, another depicting the large compass embedded in the ground in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland, and the Yin/Yang Mickey shaped pin. I was really looking forward to a pin release a couple of years ago which would have been a gold plated depiction of an actual old Disneyland E-ride coupon. Unfortunately, it was cancelled due to a typo and I'm not sure if it ever ended up being released later or not.

My best friend and I went to WDW last November, and I already had a landyard and some pins from Disneyland from 2004.

At first he was kidding me about them... next thing I know, he browsed some of the racks, and ended up with like 35 pins from our trip!! I think he actually has more than I do now

A CM at the Candy/Cookie place in MGM/Studios was heartbroken that she didn't have her lanyard that day we were there, as she went nuts when she saw my Jack Skellington/Haunted Mansion LE 2004 pin :) She wanted to trade very badly for that pin!

Pins I like to get are mainly a Year pin for my vist (DL- 2002, 2004, and WDW 2005 so far, and will be WDW 2006 :) ) Pins of rides that I like (several Haunted Mansion and PotC pins!), and then from there on out it's just whatever strikes me.

Although this year, I have been getting the Piece of Disney History II set :) Haunted Mansion cost me several weeks of play money to get it off of E-Bay!!

I have fun at the parks. There were several children that would see my heavily loaded lanyard, and then at their set.... A couple of parents scolded their kids about looking at my lanyard, but I assured them that it why I was wearing it, so others could see. One girl was pondering if she wanted to ask me if I wanted to trade a pin... but she decided she wanted to keep her pin :)

I asked my step-sister to see if she saw one of the Incredibles pins when they went on their trip to get it for me... (as I was missing the ever-elusive Jack-Jack). She ended up getting me an Incredibles lanyard for Christmas... and my neice and nephew decided that if Uncle K liked these, that they wanted them too :)
