Is the clock ticking on the Sorcerer Mickey Hat icon at the Studios? YES!

That's the current version of this rumor, I think. I haven't talked to any of my super secret sources today though.
So, let's just have some fun here. Suppose it is being moved, won't that give us an idea as to what the expansion of DHS will look like? I mean, the HAT would not fit in with a Star Wars themed land. And I can't see it fitting in with a Cars Land. But, I can see how it might fit better into a Pixar Land.....Again, just having some fun imagining and guessing should the Hat be MOVED and not ELIMINATED...

There's a good deal of space right outside the park as well, which could eliminate thematic concerns....

The difference is many people dislike change, but on here the outrage is usually over closing things and replacing them with something inferior. For many too young to remember the pre-hat days, it seems like they're just taking away something the love to have their picture taken with, but they don't realise how much *better* things will look after it - they don't realise Disney is essentially demolishing the hat but replacing it with a beautiful Chinese Theater.

Some people will call everyone on these boards 'haters who hate change', but if you look at it reactions have been quite measured. Maelstrom, Shark Reef and Off-Kilter closing were massively disliked, because the replacement (or lack of one) is likely to be inferior.

Nobody really seems to care about Jack Sparrow, because the attraction is poor so anything would be at the very worst, an equivalent. People were sad about the Backlot Tour but felt it has had it's day, was a shadow of its former self and are excited about the possible replacements.

And people *love* this news about the hat, because it's a very, very definite improvement. All examples of things coming to an end, but with different effects on the quality of the parks.

I moreso thought their disappointment was funny. Take away an attraction or form of entertainment and regardless of what is replacing it, people would be upset - I get that totally. But a structure?!?! I wish I could pull up some of the quotes. I doubt Parisians would be this upset if it was decided to remove the Eiffel Tower. it was oddly entertaining reading all the love for the BAH

Just a little housekeeping. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but...

The Chinese Theatre was never the park Icon. Or a winnie in a traditional sense. It was simply part of a larger theme for the park, and especially that area. The "icon" as it is, was the Earful Tower.

I suspect, since the hat is being moved and not razed, it will continue to be the DHS icon.

The big benefit will be a return to theme for that area of DHS.

Right?
Doubt it. It's been slowly removed from all promo materials over the last few years. And if they were moving it, it would make sense that the announcement would be "Hat to be moved to new location" not "hat to be removed"

The Earful tower was the original icon (And should be again in my opinion), but the theater was used as a substitute icon several times over the years until that gaudy hat was placed where it is.

It's actually amazing the difference in opinions about BAH between the forums and other social medias. On FB I easily read more disappointment for the hat leaving than approval (or in most of this forum - sheer bliss)

I know the commenters on FB were more casual WDW fans but I was still very surprised to see so much love for it.

I think even more surprising to me are the Disney fans on other sites (not necessarily this one) who are bemoaning the loss of the hat while also railing against the "cartoon-ification" of Epcot with Frozen. Really, how is putting a cartoon attraction at the end of a representation of 1800s Norway any different than dropping a big cartoon hat in the middle of a representation of 1930s Hollywood?

But yeah, if these people are loud enough to actually get Disney to change their minds about removing it, then I don't know what to think. We couldn't save the Maelstrom, but we could save the BAH. :banghead:

Gotcha.

So, was it that expensive when they put in track for Epcot or has there been some crazy reason for a spike in price?

And...yes...I knew I was potentially beating the proverbial ex-horse.... ;)

Rate of inflation. Cost of things.

Its not a crazy spike, we've been woefully underestimating for awhile.

What is the time frame for taking it down? Any announcements on when demo starts? Ends?

Also, just playing devil's advocate here, but, when the NYC Aquarium was all but destroyed by Superstorm Sandy, they had to close down easily half of the attractions. With that, they cut the day admission price by almost half with the explanation of rebuilding. (It's now $11.95 to get in as opposed to $25) The membership price to see all 5 NYC zoological parks remained the same; just the one day park admission for the aquarium dropped. With all the closures, construction and restructuring that is going to be taking place over the next few years, anyone think there is a 0.05% chance of a DHS day ticket price drop or something along those lines?

There's speculation that theyre simply moving it. I do not know for sure 100% other than its going away from its current location. Probably starting in January.

Guardians of the Galaxy had the extended preview inside a Disney Park, but Jim Hill reported that the in theater effects weren't used in Florida because that would put it closer to an attraction and potentially result in issues. I don't know enough about the language here to see what's permissible. Guardians of the Galaxy would essentially be made into the Avengers family by Disney. In doing so, would that negate their usage in the parks?
Marvel is one area where Jim Hill seems hell bent on being wrong. Despite being public record he has repeatedly made claims that are clearly not in the contract.

The only problem I have with the Earful tower is that you could only really see it.....on the now closed Backlot Tour. It's an icon that isn't really in the park itself (in fact it's next to an employee parking garage.)

Just a guess, but i would say the age of most Facebook posters who would comment on such news comes into play here.
In general, i am sure many of them never experienced the Park back before the 'Hat' appeared.
For them, they associate nostalgia with the 'Hat'...since it is something that has always been there for them.

Many of us older fans who remember the view on Hollywood Blvd. prior the the 'Hat' feel differently.
We remember how beautiful the view was before that view was messed with.
Younger or newer fans of the Park missed that experience, or were too young to remember it.

Call it a 'generation gap' kind of thing....us old school 'Disney/MGM Studios' fans contrasting against more modern 'Disney's Studios' fans in opinion on the matter.

They could either move it to a more prominent location, or build a new icon that will go better with the new park.

Yep, the same thing happened with the Epcot wand, but IMO the wand was much worse

The Hat was supposed to be a temporary thing anyway, as was the wand at Epcot. Think about it. If they keep the temporary items forever we'd still have this:
