Anyone know what empty field or lot they are dumping the parts in? (Like the wand)

Maybe they'll take part of it to one of the waterparks and make this!!

Well, while I get that, I keep seeing the Horizons demolition in my head (yes I know.. totally different structure) and can't help but think that if it's being done at night, they really could get it done quicker. I'm not saying do it without method or in a careless way that damages something (though either way they will have to repair the concrete all around it I'm sure), but it sure seems that taking it down piece by piece, a little at a time, implies that maybe it isn't just going to the dumpster.
There was also speculation that they didn't really start to tear down till after the marathon which was Sunday. The next day it the top of the hat comes off.

Not only was it a totally different type of structure, it was also in an accessible place that didn't involve wandering through the park itself to get pieces out. Horizons was completely open and accessible from backstage. The hat is not. They also, it appears, had no intention to save any of the structure for use later since it was just the building that the attraction was housed in. In this case the building is the attraction and might be able to be used elsewhere at a later date. Who knows what they are thinking.

Since the wall is not high enough to block the view of the light from the blow torch from the guests, they probably have to do all the work at night after the guests are gone. We'll probably each morning see another piece or two is gone until we have our view back.

I wonder when people will start complaining about the state of disrepair the theater is in. Once the hat is down, it's needed TLC will be overly visibly. So far there hasn't been any signs of a building refurb and the hat will be down in less than a month. Something tells me there is more at play here than meets the eye.

I am so excited to see this thing gone! I'm curious too how it will look next week during my trip. I figure if it's still in pieces coming down, it will still be a beautiful sight.

I guess since the BAH is there to "hide" the theatre it was neglected. Good old TDO.

I don't think that there's any need for 'guessing'. Despite the hat being placed in front of the theater, that didn't render the theater invisible. It's still in plain sight for anyone about to enter the Great Movie Ride. We were there in October, and it certainly didn't look neglected. I'm glad to see that they're still rotating the props that are on display while your making your way through the snake line. I think Turner's involvement is just the tip of the iceberg for a decent refurb that should have been initiated awhile ago.

My favorite part of all this... is change. For too long the parks have been sitting stagnant, not too different than Tomorrowland. At least by the next visit for most of us we'll see a visual difference in both DHS and MK.

AK is hiding it's changes all behind lots and lots of walls, so we can only hope we'll see good changes there. And Poor EPCOT... you shall remain in your empty, but well fed, misery for a bit longer.
Bravo.

deconstruction is methodical. if you dont do things in the proper order, without haste, you are going to have a BAD TIME. they do not wish to damage the concrete, so they carefully pick each section off to be carted away. i'll bet they just got that cone off before daybreak, and did not have time to roll in a flatbed and get it loaded and offsite and the crane struck before the parking lots opened... and first thing tonight likely is removal of the loose parts that they pulled last night, then on to new business.

Exactly. And then once the skin comes off, there's a decent amount of steel to cut apart, then there's a bunch of foundation work. The identifiable parts of the hat will come off pretty quick, though.
