We lost some good soldiers in the last 13 years under the iron-fisted rule of the BAH - El Tiempo del Rio, The Living Seas, Maelstrom, Snow White's Scary Adventures, Timekeeper, Alien Encounter, Wonders of Life, and the building that once housed Horizons...but this is one for our side!

Seriously, though, I am actually really excited to once again see DHS's hub in its original form. Old Hollywood is one of my favorite themes, and that BAH just destroyed the ambiance. I used to love to wander around the Old Hollywood part of the park (and I really enjoy the Old Hollywood part of DCA). I look forward to eventually seeing the DHS hub hat-free and feeling more like the Old Hollywood it is supposed to represent.

Ok so lets think about this. If they are indeed demoing the hat verses disassembling it, it should take about 2 weeks once the walls are up. Once the cranes are on site it's a matter of getting someone up in a bucket with a torch or impact drivers to cut away/ disassemble the panels and the rings that make up the skeleton. Obviously safety is going to be a concern But I have to imagine they would be lowering each section directly into a dump truck to save time. HOWEVER, Before all of this happens there are other things that need to be taken care of first. First and foremost the Pin trading store needs to be moved. Second the power going to the store and the hat needs to be severed. Once this is done I imagine they will remove the shrubs for fire safety and clear the ground of everything reachable without a man lift or crane including all of the railings and the the weird gold colored curly cues. All of this will take a few days to a week depending on how detailed they are being. (Disney's not known for the expediency)

TLDR: Once the walls are up The hat should disappear quickly. My educated guess is 2 weeks from the point in which the walls go up.

How fast do you think a demolition of this size will take?

I can't see them doing this during the peak season of Christmastime, but time will tell.

If they work during the day, a couple weeks to take down the structure, then a few more to re-grade and pave the area.

If they only work 3rd shift, a month or longer.

It's not a very complicated structure. Taking the panels off will be the tedious part.

I'd love to see an assembly video (probably doesn't exist on the net) of it, cause that's how they'll take it apart.

But, as you said, a few days, a week at most. Full bore, there isn't much to the structure.

I thought I saw a timelapse of it once, but maybe I'm imagining that. Regardless, yeah, it's a simple structure. 2-3 days removing panels, 3-4 days taking apart the steel skeleton with a crane, and probably another week or two tearing out the concrete base underground utilities, and re-paving the area (assuming that's what they're doing).

@danlb_2000 - keep an eye out for a NoC for something going back. This specific NoC may just be for demolition, since that's a specialty trade, typically.

I can see everyone is so excited to have the hat gone so it returns to the original state the park was in when it opened. I have only started going to DHS since it was up. For me it will be sad to see it gone. While I like the theatre, I would love for the view to be something original to the park, or at least something that doesn't exist anymore.

In the end,if this means the studios gets a much needed lift, then tear it down. I'm excited to see the changes that will come :)

I would be shocked if they did this during the day. Considering they have to have equipment right in the middle of the park, I can see that being done after hours. I suppose that they could take some of it down, pile it up and remove it after hours, but, that seems like many added steps.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned and may be worthy of thought. We are all assuming that they are going to remove the hat and we will have the open view once again, however, do we know for sure that nothing else will be sitting there? They use that area for stages right now. What's to stop them from placing a stage in the middle and leaving it there. Since, technically, a stage is not a permanent structure and does not attach to any foundation, they wouldn't need a permit to put one there. Just leave the wheels on it and it is labeled moveable.

Maybe we are jumping from the fry pan into the fire on this one. I can envision a whole bunch of staging for lighting (since power runs to it already) that is ugly and possibly even worse then the BAH. I am certainly hoping that this is not the case, but, it sure seems more then possible to me.
