Is Stiches Great Escape too scarey for little ones?

I'd think 8 and 9 would be good to go, scariness-wise. I'd say it depends on how much/if they are scared of the dark.

Outside of scariness, the attraction does kind of suck.

I can see how being in the dark and locked down in your seat with an escaped Stich could be scary for kids. But it depends whether or not your daughters get frightened by that sort of thing. Oh and BTW I'm one of the few that like the attraction.

There shouldn't be an issue whatsoever if they're 9 & 8. It's in the dark, sure, but the attraction is friendly to most kids. We're no longer talking about Alien Encounter here. That would have been a whoooole different story. Haha.

One thing a friend of mine did was to go to you tube and preview the ride with his youngest child. There was a fear of how this dark ride would hamper the rest of the days rides. This gave him a chance to talk about the ride before they hit the park. After watching it a few times his child knew what to expect. I also think it is much easier to experience since it was downgraded from the Alien Encounter.

My daughter had just turned 7 and after it was over she looked at me and said, "That's it??! Now I know why there's no line".

IDK how it is for kids, but this statement is very true. The ride is pretty much a waste of time (or at least I think so). I just remember waiting for it to be over, nothing really happened in it.

I don't think that they will be scared. I just don't think they'll like it :p It presses really hard on your shoulders (unless they have corrected this since I rode it), so prepare them for that. It also smells and gets dark, so just make sure they know what they are going into. They probably won't be afraid, they just might not like the experience.

Thanks everyone :) We're going to give it a try... I read a review somewhere about someone taking their child on it and then they were scared of Stitch at Ohana that;s why I asked... Mine are fine with the dark so we should be good :) 7 days till we're there :sohappy:

My oldest son was 3 when he went on it for the first time....he loved Stitch so he was really excited to go on this, but cried almost the entire time because he was scared. I think 8-9 would be fine though!

To me the attraction is tricky because it still contains most of the elements that made Alien Encounter scary; darkness, loud noises, confined spaces, and things touching you. Other than removing the notion people are being killed around you it is essentially the same basic set up, just with a different show.

So honestly I think the scare factor is hard to predict until you've subjected your kids to the show. They might take it all in stride (which I think they will) or the combination of the scare elements might get to them.

They sound like they'll be fine. It does get dark, but it's not nearly as scary as Alien Encounter. Just don't do it like a woman I saw earlier this month. She took her little kids on Stitch at about 1:30-2AM and then yelled at them afterwards when they were scared. :fork:

I took my son who was 6 yrs old at the time and he was fine. Tower of Terror is another story......he still talks about how he dislikes that ride.

Things that are scary for some children:

-Pitch Black Darkness -- There are two times where it gets pitch black darkness to the point where you can't see the hand in front of your face. The first time is estimated at 3 mins the second time is estimated at 1.5 mins. Don't try to pull out a phone or glow device for your child to feel comforted. You will be asked to turn it off immediately.

-Loud Cannon Firing Simulation -- During the show, there are scenes where two robotic "laser cannons" shoot around the theater including at the guests. These are accompanied with very loud sound effects and special effects that may seem realistic to a small child.

-Shoulder Restraint Interaction -- Not only are the shoulder restraints intimidating for children, but they actually interact with you throughout the show with various sound effects, smells, movement on your shoulders (pressing down), and surprise effects on your neck.

-Separation from Family -- While children are seated next to their family members, they are required to have their own seat. These seats are on the large side with large armrests in between. That combined with the shoulder restraints and the dark scenes make it hard for a parent to comfort their child when scared which makes the situation worse.

-Mist/Water/Smoke Effects -- The show also uses mist, water, and smoke effects that can surprise a child to a point that they may get scared or think it is too real or that they are in danger.

-Theater Set Up -- Even for adults, the way the theater is shaped in a circle combined with the shoulder restraints makes most people including children think that it is a ride and that is spins. Some children find most ride scary for the reason they don't know what they do and Stitch is very good at looking like a ride that isn't clear on what it does.

-Stitch Character -- While Stitch is cute in Lilo and Stitch, a live version of him may not be taken so easily for young children, especially when he is escaping and causing trouble all around.

-Storyline -- Part of the storyline simulates emergency situations and Stitch escaping leaving the crew panicked with what to do. The simulated emergency can seem real for some children.

Inside the attraction there are 3 rooms. The first two you stand the third you sit. The first isn't scary at all. The second introduces you to the emergency situation which can start a child to worry or get scared. These two rooms are about 5-10 minutes in length together. The last room is the main theater where all the action takes place for the remaining 10-15 minutes. You can ask a cast member to exit at anytime UP UNTIL YOU ARE IN THE MAIN THEATER. Once you are in the main theater, you really can't get up and leave and trying to do so would not be a good idea as it could lead to stopping the entire show for everyone.

I've seen all types of people go inside from kids to adults and those with special needs. Some small children sit quietly while some go crazy. Some adults can't handle it while most can. Even some of the special needs do fine, while others have to be escorted out. You know your child best. If they get scared by meeting characters live and on Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean then Stitch is not for you. If they ride Space Mountain and Tower of Terror then they should be fine and may even find it boring.

I'm with you... waste of time & not worth the risk of possibly getting your kids scared/upset.
