Soarin started in california but seems to fit in well at epcot. I think it is becoming one of the favorite priceless epcot classics. Even if they ever did change the images they can never realey ruin it because there are so many amazing places in this world to film but so far its not. I know it will never replace all the past attractions but i do think it beats the new ones built over the classics.

In my opinion it would never have classic status, I love the attraction, the concept and execution is incredible but to me, it is not what I call a unique attraction.

What I mean by that is, take the original Journey into Imagination, the music, set and characters set the entire story and guide us through the attraction. They are unique in that if any of those were changed, the attraction would completely change.

With Soarin' on the other hand, it doesn't matter what film you have being played, it will always be a flying over something attraction.

Does that make sense?

No - ride it once and its great, but after that its just a film show with a moving chair.

I feel the same way, which is why I don't mind it if we don't ride it during a trip. Once every 3or4 trips is as often as I will ride it.

IMO, it's too new to be a "classic"

It's a classic for me.

:)

I agree. It may not have the history or the allure of some of the other attractions named within this thread, but for my money, Soarin' is the best ride in Epcot.

Don't get me wrong, I understand that it hasn't been around that long and was originally built for DL, but in my humble opinion, it is a can't miss attraction when I visit WDW.

The OP didn't ask if is a classic attraction. The first few posters saw this and then it kind of got lost. He asked if it was an Epcot Classic. Of course it will never achieve the status as PotC, HM, or Space Mountain.

It all depends on your definition of classic. Can you still consider an attraction classic if it no longer exists? Can classic and extinct coexist?

I would actually define classic as an attraction that defines the area or park it is in. In that regard there are no Epcot classics. KK, Journey, Horizons, ect have all been demolished without serious reprecussions to the Future World, in terms of the general public. I miss those things and, as a avid fanboy, can see a diffrence in Future World. But we are in the minority.

Would you get the same reaction if Haunted Mansion or PotC were removed? I think there would be much more of an outcry than what was seen at Epcot. Think Mr. Toad's Wild Ride.

Does age really have to be an issue? I can imagine IASW was considered a Disney classic only a few years after being moved to DL.

Now for my actual answer:

I actually agree that it is not an Epcot classic but could be considered a California Adventure classic, if such a thing can even exist. This reasoning isn't very sound though, seeing as to how most MK classics would be Disneyland classics first.

It's only been in Epcot for 4 years so there is no way to suggest it has endured the test of time required to become one.

It's 8 years old at California Adventure but that's hardly the 4 or 5 decades that some Disney attractions have retained their popularity.

The only way you can consider it a classic is if you take the stupid "anything Disney or I calls a classic is a classic" approach.

Classic no, fun ride yes. It was a nice needed addition to the land pavilion that has done very well. I like this ride concept and enjoy being on it every time that I go. You really do get a sence of flying plus the smells and the wind. Just an all around good time for your sences.

Very well put...
