Is Roy behind Comcast bid?

I have a sneaky suspicion that Roy is behind the Comcast bid. Look at the timing, with the Conference coming up in just a couple of weeks! Coincidentally, I was thinking just last night (I swear I'm not making this up) that if Roy was to succeed he would need a major company behind him making a bid for the company. The first company that came to mind was Comcast, no joke! Damn, I should have posted here while that thought was in my head and before today's news!!!!!!!

In any case, now it's Eisner's move. With Comcast making a hostile takeover bid, Eisner can not continue his strategy of ignoring it.

I posted this in another thread but my answer to your query is I sincerely doubt it:

I'm starting to think that Roy Disney is the most powerful man in America from reading these boards. First he's got a secret alliance with Steve Jobs which causes Jobs to scuttle the Disney-Pixar negotiations as a way of harming Eisner and promoting Roy's triumphant return. Now Roy has another secret alliance with Comcast. Much to the chagrin of his legions of fans on this board, I don't think that Roy is that powerful.

I know people keep clinging to Roy because he has the Disney name but I'm not even sure the Walt Disney family was that tight with the Roy Disney family. I presume that the heirs of Walt Disney still own sizable shares of stock in the company? Whom do they support?

Well if it is Roy behind it, go him!!!

I mean think about it, he would have to be a fast talker or Comcast an eager company because its not easy to convince a company to give up billions on billions to buy a company like disney that is complex and carries debt and bad relations.

So if Roy is behind it, all i can say is, Wow, what a task.

If Roy is not behind it, at least I think he at least has had talks with Comcast. Look at SaveDisney.com and you can see Comcast was mentioned quite a lot.

Maybe Comcast got the idea to do it themselves because Roy gave them the idea, or at least listened to Roy's noise and said "hmmm... Disney..."

I doubt Roy is behind this...it makes no sense...it does however make sense that Eisner is trying not only to make the stock value go up...but since his job is being criticized and he's in danger of losing it...stands to reason that Eisner may want this deal to go through...if not with Comcast with someone else....and all this in time for this weeks investor conference....

Jim Hill's 2 cents

Jim Hill posted an article today pointing out the coincidence that the Disney conference is being held in Philli, the same city Comcast's headquarters are located. Also Steve Burke, who is now working at Comcast, was once working at Disney and was one of the people of Eisner's succession list.

A smart move on Eisner's part would be to accept a modified Comcast-Disney deal that would still leave Eisner with power. When AT&T bought TCI from John Malone and formed AT&T Broadband (which was bought out by Comcast), the deal was that AT&T kept the cable properties, but John Malone kept control of the "content" part of the company. A similar deal could be worked out with Eisner.

Wow, first thing Jim Hill got right.

I swear if I find out Roy got Comcast to bid on Disney then I’m supporting any person who wants to keep the company controlled by self.

If it Eisner then so be it- I want the Disney company to be owned by itself or if there is a merger then I want Disney to be in charge of the combination (like ABC).

My first comment was I wonder if Roy is behind this. The conference is in Philly and Comcast is based in Philly....Coincidence?

I know everyone likes to play Oliver Stone and create conspiracies where there are none but I think you seriously overstate Roy Disney's influence on the marketplace.

 Yes... I can see the next Oliver Stone movie being about Roy. :brick:

The Man (Roy) is NOT his uncle... and I don’t think he has the answers to all of Disney's (the Company) problems (Eisner doesn’t either).

*shrug*
