Is Renting a golf cart at FW necessary?

We'll be at FW in June and renting one of the cabins. Is having a golf cart to get around the campground necessary? I was just wondering how spread out everything is there? I would prefer to walk to get to the marina, but don't want to get too tired from all the walking before we even get to the parks. Also, how efficient is the bus transportation within the campground? Thanks for any input.

The last time I stayed at FW was in 2000, and we stayed probably a half dozen other times when I was younger. (back when the cabins were trailers :animwink:). We rented a golf cart for our 2000 trip because it was me, my Mom (:dazzle:), my 80 y/o grandmother and my sister. The golf carts are by far the most convenient way to get around FW. The internal bus system takes forever b/c of the multiple stops within the grounds. Also, you have to make sure you're getting on the right one. :hammer: I don't think you can feasibly walk from the cabins to the marina (where the boat to MK is). It's quite far, depending on what loop you're in. There's a great map of the campgrounds in the Unofficial Guide. It's definitely not necessary to have a cart, but it will make things much easier. They even have parking spots all around the campgrounds, complete with hook-ups to recharge them while you're gone. Have fun!

Hey Jen...Only 10 weeks..YAY!

The bus transportation is pretty good..there is usually a bus every 15 or 20 minutes..sometimes quicker and sometimes slower...but you do stop at many stops..

The campground is HUGE!

So if you wanted to explore a lot..which I do suggest ..;)..and not walk everywhere..the you should call and reserve the cart.

Also since it is June and it is HOT...I think a cart would be great..especially after going to be walking at the parks all day..

It will probably benefit Joel and you guys also..:)

You can take the cart to the marina in the mornings and park and charge it all day while you are at the parks..and then that way when you get back at nights it is waiting for you.

I would suggest it..if you plan on staying at the campgrounds for a good amount of time..which I think I know you said you guys would for breaks and meals and stuff..

Have fun and take me and Maggie..:)

I stayed at FW in the 1800 loop (closest to the main entrance) in 2006. We actually had 7 people so we rented a golf cart. We were on the other side from where all the dining was and the boat to MK, so we needed it. We tried the bus transportation for one day... but it took forever and got very confusing to say the least. Walking the campground would take a long time and tire you out before you even got to the parks so I would highly suggest renting a golf cart. It is so much easier, especially at night we would take it to the marina and watch the electrical water pageant, and then drive back to our cabin. I would highly suggest it :)

And if you get up early, take a nice drive around 6:30 - 7 in the morning and there are usually deer grazing around the campground, its absolutely beautiful and so peaceful :)

Hmmm, maybe I'll call them today then. It's a lot of money, but I think it makes sense.

Actually, it's nine weeks - need to change the siggy. Yeah, we want to visit the petting zoo, horse barns, Abby want to horseback ride. So getting the cart may just make more sense for us.
I have the murphy bed in the cabin if you and Maggie want to come. :animwink: :D

The bus system is effichient but will add to the transit time to or from the park. A bike is a option. The golf cart to me is the only way to go. You can hop in and run anywhere in mere seconds. We were in the 400 loop which was close to the marina and the boat to MK and bus to MGM. The buses to EP and AK were all the way at the far end from us. If you have small kids that will fall asleap at night on the way back the cart is great. If you do plan on a cart reserve it early. The cart is also fun to take to the movie, you can park on the side and have a kinda drive in or "cart in" movie.

Love FW!!! I wish we were going this summer but we can't, maybe in the fall.

We always rent a golf cart for reasons already stated. They are pricey but after a long day at the parks there is nothing like riding in the cart back to your cabin passing, all the people walking and dragging themselves, their kids and bags etc...back to their cabins or tents. The internal bus system is confusing, some routes only go to the marina area, others only to the entrance area. We got the hang of it but it is a hassle when you could simply hop in your cart and be there faster. Besides, we love to ride around in the evening, site see, people watch etc...nothing is better! If you want to rent one it is best to have one reserved now, if you change your mind once you see the place then you can turn it in early (someone will happily rent it) or call and cancel it. Have fun!!!

I appreciate everyone's input. Since it's an overwhelming 'yes' to renting a cart, I called FW and fortunately was able to secure one. :sohappy::sohappy: I know it will come in handy when we come back from the parks in the evening. Thanks everyone!

It all depends where your cabin is located. It may be a long walk to the marina. I would rent a cart, or bring a bike to get around. I do not like the internal bus service, too many stops along the way. After a long day at the Magic Kingdom there is nothing like getting in your cart and driving back to your camper, or cabin. No walking to the bus stop and waiting on the bus. There is ample cart parking right at the marina.

We went last July. If you are close to a bus stop, especially on the center loop, the bus service isnt too bad other than sometimes it seemed that the outer loop buses came around more often at the marina then the center run which was the orange run. A cart would have been nice but we were a stones throw from the Meadows Trading Post and didnt relly see the need. Sometimes it would have been convenient when we got back to the marina after a long night out at the parks and waiting with everyone else for the buses but it wasnt that bad. If you are in the center of the campground its quite a walk to either end. At least 15 minutes either way would be a guess not knowing your walking abilities. The bus ride at the most was a 15 minute wait then a 5-10 minute ride including the different stops. It would have cost $400 for us to have the cart for our stay. We ended up using our vehicle more than we thought when we went to places like the water parks and if we were planning on going to Epcot,AK, or DD. We never drove to MK or HS. What I would do was plan on being at a bus stop 15-20 minutes earlier than I normally would when staying at another resort. The other thing is that the buses are dry when one of the thunderstorms kicked up whereas the carts only have a roof and a windshield and you will get wet. The other thing is that you still have to walk down to the marina from the bus stop or cart parking so plan that in. We also noticed that the bus to HS often went over to WL through a road in the woods before going to the park. We just learned to be a little earlier than we would anywhere else.

I stayed in a cabin for March '07. We only had a cart for the last 3 days of our 5 day trip. The first two days seemed like it took forever to get places. The cart was VERY convenient!
